And the wait for an adaption of the actual original trilogy continues...

Anyway, it was an okay start. Suffers from the same problem Total Eclipse's premiere in that a bunch of tragic stuff happens to people we barely know, but having the Stasi Secret Police take the place of the human enemy instead of ye old nationalism is nice.

Well...this is probably going to get ugly.

On the positive this wasn't nearly as much of a first episode blood bath as previous ones. Only one named character got killed off there, so not bad

.

While the MC is certainly a jerk, I'm not overly surprised by it. That country would basically create that kind of thing naturally. Unable to really trust anyone around you, leaving a person really bothered by their fellow humans in general. Though can't deny I'll be glad once Katia wears down this guy a bit and gets him to accept her more.

Good things:
-Nice animation
-Nice VA
-Action and deaths
-DOUBLE AHOGE

Bad things
-It was rushed a bit right?
-Theo is too edgy for my taste
-Poor girl dead at the first episode

I liked this a lot, reminds me the times of Alternative even when we're not going to have S2 any time soon. The best part was the end with Beatrix.

I'm someone completely new to the Muv Luv franchise so I don't have any prior knowledge of the setting, but I did find it interesting. Despite the fact that they have a common enemy in the BETA, there is still tension between west and east Germany. I guess makes sense the MC is distrustful of his commander if that story about selling out her brother was true.

Katia comes off as idealistic and somewhat naive but still good intentioned. Theodor comes off as a jerk but that's understandable considering his circumstances. His attiude will probably change in time.

Total Eclipse started promising but ended disappointingly. Let's hope this way stays at least par throughout.

Whoah! Lots of interesting plot foundations set out in this first episode. Its looking quite interesting.

I just wish they'd make more anime with the characters being at least old enough to vote, especially if they're supposed to be well trained combat soldiers. Ah, well, I should be used to it by now.

IIRC, Nobody died in Total Eclipse episode 1. They started dropping like Flies only after episode 2 began.

On positive note, I think Laser Class are cuter in this one.

Wow the protagonist is such an edgelord. And he obviously "hates" her little sister because he's afraid of spies using her against him and vice-versa.

I've played the VNs, so I guess it's worth checking this one out but I hope it doesnt end up like Total Eclipse.

I havent played the VN but I always thought the MC of every muv luv spin offs were Dks or turning into dks

You think even with the grudges between both sides of Germany, once these invaders that eat and attack humans relentlessly, they would put it aside to fight a bigger enemy. Even as a ceasefire

Will I be able to fully enjoy this anime if I don't know a single thing about Muv Luv? Or, watching this anime first instead of the other series will affect in any way my perception of those by the time I watch them?

I liked it a lot. I don't think the original trilogy would really help much considering that this takes places in 1980s.

Watch it, because it's just a great spin-off.
Even better, start reading the 1st volume to appreciate this story even more.
