There's a particular scene from Season 1, at 1:12 of this video that makes me wonder about Satone's relationship with Yuuta in Middle School. In that scene, Yuuta recalls confessing to a girl in Middle School in full Chunni mode. Initially, I thought it was Satone that Yuuta confessed to. On the other hand, the hair color is wrong. Which makes me wonder: was it Satone that Yuuta confessed to, or was it some other girl? But if it was some other girl, and Satone and Yuuta were very close to one another in Middle School, then what gives? Why would Yuuta confess to someone else, when he was already close to Satone? Did this occur in the third year, after both Satone and Yuuta parted? Or was the girl really Satone/Sophia, and the flashback has already unwittingly answered what really went down in the run up to Satone and Yuuta parting ways? After all, Yuuta did demonstrate an off switch in the first season when he switched his Chuuni off for the policeman. So, why on earth would he confess to a non Chuuni in full Chuuni mode? It seems more probable he tried to confess to Satone in full Chuuni mode, and was turned down. But if that's the case, this means that any prospect of Satone as a love Rival is all in Rikka's mind - both Satone and Yuuta friend-zoned each other even before Rikka came to the picture. Perhaps the first season has already given a good a hint at what exactly is in that picture that keeps recurring in Season 2. Last edited by novalysis; 2014-02-15 at 04:48. |

I could picture Yuuta confessing to a girl in Chuuni mode for the same reason that the aforementioned Chuuni mode ever existed in the first place: because he thought his Chuunibyou self was awesome. The Dark Flame Master was so fucking cool that any girl was destined to be swept off their feet, after all (or at least that was the case in Yuuta's mind). Yuuta might've had the good sense to turn off the chuunibyou to deal with a police officer, but I get the impression that he paraded around with the Dark Flame Master persona a lot during middle school, and that it was more or less his default state. If he only went chuunibyou around those who were accepting of it, the memories associated with that might've been embarrassing, but he wouldn't have had to distance himself from his old school (going to a new high school far away from his old middle school kind of implies that the student body at large was aware of the Dark Flame Master persona - and come to think, he did introduce himself as such on the first day of school during a flashback to the first day of 8th grade).
As for Sophia, I would love if there was some kind of deep, meaningful past where Yuuta had unrequited feelings for her. I'm not asking for anything that affects the present day too deeply (I'm sure Yuuta has fully moved on to Rikka), but I think it would make for a pretty fascinating backstory (and would make a lot of sense - Yuuta and Sophia were very close, and as effusive and charismatic as Sophia is, she's the kind of girl that could easily break a few hearts along the way). |

Man I can't help but wonder, since the main characters in season 2 are Yuuta/Rikka/Sophia and chu2byou follows a pattern by starting the season with a lot of funny & cute scenes, but turns into a deep story with a lot of feels,I'm just having a hard time figuring what it will be about when it comes to that feel part of the anime, will it be something like Sophia confessing to Yuuta because her feelings revived after seeing him, what do you guys think?
