It didn't take long for Sein to prove his worth. I wonder what they would have done without him. I think Frieren would have ordered Fern and Stark to retreat and try to look for help, she knows full well how dangerous curses can be.
The second half was a great chapter for Stark (and for Stark x Fern shippers). The manga didn't show the dance but I expected the anime would, it still blew me away though. This is the best adaptation in forever. Kinda think she did it to get back at him. Fern is the big eater, not Frieren. She even dual wielded donuts in this ep, and had to be forbidden by that one lady teaching her from eating more

Grudge or not, I think she would've refused regardless.
She initially didn't want to take this request, and social gatherings were never her thing. Quote:
The dual wielding is a fair point though, so you could interpret Fern's diet either way. Quote:
The way I was taught was to not handle more than one item at once, and Fern has a habit of dual wielding food. |

Sein is true to his word. The bokkeh/blur on everything but the village lady thanking him made me laugh. He also checked out the last maid of the pack escorting Fern. I'm starting to understand his type. I'm surprised he didn't ask other ladies at the dance.
I like that they continued during the credits. Maybe a new ED coming up?

Just another really good episode.
The early part was fun and even got a nice little fight in there. I like the little flashback with Heiter too. Frieren is pretty flawed, but taking her at her word is a good way to approach things. I do get Sein worrying about unleashing a Frieren that doesn't know the situation and has insanely strong magic, but trusting was the right call. A beautiful finisher from Frieren there . Truly amazing how cute the Stark and Fern ship has gotten. Even little things like leaving them together under that barrier and having Stark wake up first was great. But obviously the ball later was the big highlight for them. Truly fitting that Fern got wrapped up in it considering she was the one pushing Stark to take part because they did need the cash. No hesitation by Frieren in volunteering Fern either . No reason to put herself through all that. Might as well let the kids have "fun" while the adults sit back and chill for three months! Always get those little moments with these two. Where we get to read a lot into things because neither side is really verbalizing much and Fern's expressions can at times be restrained. Get that little moment of him deftly taking her hand to show off his training. She (more than once) says it doesn't suit him. But...she did look at her hand for quite a while after he left . The dance itself was cute with both sides getting more comfortable and having fun with it as they went along. A tough few months, but they got a great experience like this out of it. While the Lord...has questionable approaches to recruiting people, I did enjoy that side of it too. A sad reveal regarding his son. A stupid argument was the last real conversation they had before finding his dying son on the battlefield. And seemingly those moments were spent telling his father to cover up his death until things were more stable. An awful regret to carry around. Though seems like he's doing a good job with his other son.

If there is going to be a new OP/ED, it'll probably be when the 2nd season starts in January. https://twitter.com/Anime_Frieren/st...72056673628224 Quote:

First half was Sein's chance to shine and while he showed why he deserved his spot on the party, Frieren was the best part for me. Don't underestimate the mage that was part of the hero's party.
Second part was cute. The Stark and Fern dance was sweet and it was nice to see Stark get some closure from his past.

I think I'll have a heart attack if I finally see a show that doesn't have the same cringy stereotype "corset" scene. And if Fern hasn't been wearing a pair of bodies (the English medieval name for what we'd call a corset today), what in the world has she been wearing for bust support. I guess she's just been free birding.

The series is inspired by Germany, not England anyway. |

That's not true. While we might have more physical examples of bodies or stays worn by nobility, lower class women also wore stays /bodies, or stiffened fabric, or would add boning directly to garments depending on the time period. Stays or wearing stiffened garments to support the bust and torso wasn't just unique to England.
