We had a short discussion about this on the previous page

In sum, how long it'll take you depends on how hard you study and what you intend to read. Some series have more furigana (e.g. Ore no Imouto) but trust me, you don't want to be looking up 50 words a page - I get lazy if there are even 5-10 words I have to look up. My recommendation would be to aim at least for JLPT N2 and pass without cramming for it - that should give you a decent amount of kanji (~1000) and grammar, though I wouldn't recommend reading something like Macross even then...

Some books are harder than others. Nishio is much more advanced than BakaTest, for instance. You will likely need to know a minimum of 1000 kanji and have studied 2-3 years (depending on pace) before you start on light novels.

Make sure you feel comfortable reading advanced manga like Monster and 20th Century Boys before you bother with books, though.

I myself have not done more than skim through the intro at the bookstore but the summary is that a prophesized primogenitor vampire and his cadre appear in Japan. To prevent the catstrophe that everyone is so afraid of, a sword miko is despatched to observe and assassinate him.

Story is about the two of them and is a school fantasy.

The successor to Denpa Onna?! Lollolol....That quote on the front also makes it seem rather similar storywise....

I suppose this is as good as any place to ask...

Has anybody heard of the Light Novel [Right x Light]? I've been seeing it around several places (From here and even when I was in Taipei >.>) and I'm wondering what the synopsis is about?

As you can imagine, with a title like that, it's kinda hard to find on the net

Completed 9S vol 2 after 1.5 months of reading agony. It had absolutely terrible plot and garbage characters. Avoid like the plague. Why, oh god, why did I buy the third volume before reading this one.

Done with Nekomonogatari (Shiro), and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a step up from the previous few instalments in the series, with a breath of fresh air from the narrator swap, but still doesn't reach the heights of the first three volumes.

Golden Time vol 3 is coming out this week (just ordered it), and with it the news that there's a manga on the way.

Nice to hear about a manga started up, I'll finally get a chance to check it out.

Is Golden Time any good? Might consider ordering it together with my next batch if it is.

so far, reviews for Golden Time have been good. it's not often a light novel gets a manga adaptation by its third volume. based on the very brief summaries I've seen, it's definitely something different from Toradora. my interest was actually seriously piqued, but unfortunately, romance and slice-of-life stories are usually on my back-burner, because somehow, I'm unable to read them fast until they reach a dramatic climax. the cover illusts are pretty godly though.

I've been reading the Tokyo Ravens manga, so I want to ask, how is the light novel?

New Nishio Ishin novel "announced", Shoujo Fujuubun, release is Sep 6th. New series? Stand-alone novel? What is this mysterious title? Foo Midori is illustrating it.

おまえをオタクにしてやるから、俺をリア充にしてくれ!(I’ll Make You into an Otaku, so Make Me into a Riajuu!) was released on 20 July 2011 by Fujimi Shobou. If you like Toradora and Oreimo, you might want to check it out.

I did a review here

EDIT: fixed link
