I think magazines will usually have some sort of announcement if a series is wrapping up or entering its final arc, but we never any indicating that the manga was entering a final climactic arc. Also, I think the anime wouldn't be a very effective advertisement tool to drum up interest for the manga if the serializing was wrapping up in the imminent future.

But Carta was the big bad of the series so far and Chise's got immortality after declaring her love of Elias. You can only go so many places from there.

The manga updated. It went through the steps of the anime before ending with their arrival at the College. Still ongoing.

I can see the manga ending like the anime but there's many things that could happen in between.

I'm pretty surprised the anime's last episode played out almost exactly as depicted in chapter 45, with a few small exceptions. Guess Mag Garden and Wit figured that, given how close the release dates of the two were, they might as well just show how the Cartophilus arc ends.

Interestingly Cartophilus is not completely out of the picture, as we see him wake up and talk to Chise for a bit before she leaves for the College. Wonder if he's going to play any significant role in the future now that he's found some measure of peace, whether it be as an ally or if he remains an antagonist.

We see some side-effects regarding her dragon's arms as well as Joseph being up and active. And part of joining the College is because of the dragon and Joseph incident taking place, and Chise deciding to join because the knowledge she gains may help others in the future while studying a Sleigh Beggy would allow more to be saved in the future instead of being harvested since more of them are born than natural magi, but they die sooner.

A good start for a new arc.

My gut feeling is we may well find out what Chise's father and brother have been up to in the College arc.

In the cover image for the new arc, there's a kid who trips and based on the character's outfit it looks like a young boy. We know it's been about ten-ish years since Chise's father left, so that would place her brother at around 10-11 years old. Conveniently, this character is shown from behind, so we have no idea what their features look like. Until proven otherwise, I wanna say this character might be Chise's brother.

I also don't think we're going to get rid of Ashen Eye any time soon. A being as old, fickle and powerful as him fits more of the joker role than the end boss role. That is simply the nature of faes; they love to toy with humans.

The manga updated. Chise has a new Dorm Mother cat, a new roommate who doesn't like talking, and has essentially enrolled in Hogwarts. Not bad.

Agreed but the cats at the "college" are creepy unlike "normal cats" that magus use...I also really liked the intro of the professor.

That "To Know" speech was one of the most beautiful things I've read, but remembering that wizards use corpses leaves me unable to think of the cats as anything but undead kitties.

Yeah same here. x.x undead kitties tied to god knows what to "act alive" and "well."
As much as I like cats the ones @ the College act creepy. They seem like mini yandere stalkers.

The speech was awesome but really it is to learn how the world works and force/ corrupt it to ones will. In a way become god.

We see that some members of the College have gone ahead and modified their bodies to where we see an ant woman. She's pretty nice.

Likewise, Elias gives us a version of the speech that the wizard gave us earlier on the desire to know being the powerful motivation. He also shows that some fae have been living in the college the whole time and they didn't know. Of course, some idiot pushes his luck and nearly gets eaten, but Elias stops that from happening. He also demonstrates that he's been feeling fear.

I thought she was more of a caterpillar.

I wonder what "the smell of rust" means. Is it blood? Would the Neighbors care? And if so, would it be all of them, or part of them and that girl just happened to be one?

Or has he been spending too much time with iron for some reason?

Well, iron binds them and by rust it could mean that he was basically around it enough that the scent could linger. He didn't seem to try and get along with the others after he got rejected, so maybe he expected it would be the case.

Hmm reminds me of a certain person from earlier in the manga...he smelled of iron (blood) after all he killed countless cats. Now we have a character that smells of rust? Interesting. Is he friend or foe? He is definitely suspicious and the "others" non humans didn't like him so....yeah.

Then again why did Chise not feel threatened but calmed? Unless the previous foreshadowing of the chapter is starting. You know the one in her "new" eye that is a thousand plus years old?

Didn't the doc say that Chise is currently dominate over that other personality in the eye but she wondered if she had any mood swings? Could this smell of rust/iron/(blood?) become a new preference? Or rather did that smell become something not uncomfortable/nauseating unaware to her? (In other words she doesn't mind it as much not because she's grown up but because of the "other" personality in her is acting up?) If so that is worrying.
