Ōsama Game (King's Game)

Quote:
This year's 16th issue of Futabasha's Manga Action magazine is revealing on Tuesday that Nobuaki Kanazawa's Ōsama Game (King's Game) cellphone novel is getting a television anime adaptation that will premiere in October.
Plot Summary
Quote:
The original novel's story begins when an entire high school class of 32 people receive a message on their cellphones from a person known only as the "King." The messages contain orders that the students must obey, or they risk the punishment of death. With their lives on the line, the students soon find out that the orders are getting more and more extreme as time goes on.

Episode 1 is out on CR.

Some of the dialogues is really cringe. I'm not sure I'll like this but will give it a few more episodes. The premise of the show has the murder mystery feel to it with violence. At least they're keeping the blood and violence it to give the reality of the game.

Visual wise, I guess it was fine. The main male MC might take me some time to get used to....he's really generic.

I'm not feeling the romance aspects of this show at all. First episode and one of the girls already falls for him.
There seems to be a decent amount of characters in this show so I'm kinda curious to see how this anime will focus on them, besides Nobuaki.

I think it's based on the continuation of that manga Ousama Game: Shuukyouku or Climax) for now. But since they have the VAs for all the students from the first manga listed, maybe that will com later.

Romance? I bet you didn't read the manga version Ousama Game: Shuukyouku.
And trust me, the casts will die off faster than in Game of Thrones.

I seriously wish the continuation of Ousama Game: Shuukyouku will be released in manga format.

The anime is just partially based on the source material on it's first two arc. It'll then move on to its original story line.

My first thought after the first ep was basically "Well... that was intense".

I don't think this show was made for dialogue or romance. It's not even about horror if you ask me. It's about sadistic murder, indulgence, and the sort of visceral repulsion both tend to inspire.

Kind of sad really; there's a much greater level of terror and tension and emotion that can be drawn out by abandoning these theatrics and putting all the focus given to that into making the characters themselves meaningful. Have the girl actually grow to love him for more reasons than just Word of God, and let the audience watch and participate as she finds her way into his heart. Have friendships develop and give the characters real dreams rather than those typical death flags like "I'm going to confess after this". Showing the characters become actual people makes their deaths more impactful and more frightening, creates more immersion. But no, this doesn't look to be a horror series, just a bloodfest. Not that that's a bad thing. Good timing even with us approaching Halloween. But still not satisfying if you're looking for legitimate fear.

Sums it all up, I think. Read one of the mangas, that was more than enough.

Almost half of the characters were killed in the first episode. That's got to be a new record.

Rather intrigued by the King's game and the MC's backstory. It seems like he knew he was going to be thrown into another game after surviving the last one, meaning there's no escape. I can understand his suicidal attitude, but dragging that other girl with him was wrong. Although I guess from his point of view death could have been a mercy for her assuming the orders will escalate (and you know they will). I hope the story will tell us why he still went back to school knowing what would happen (he could have tried to become a shut-in, run away from home, commit a crime to get thrown into prison, etc...).

Hate these kind of series.
Serves nothing than just to watch characters panic and get killed off stupidly, based on some kind of gimmick.
Doesn't help that the animation and character designs are beyond dull.

Not sure how to feel about this one. Haven't read the manga or the novel, so I've got no clue.
Don't mind the cast dying in droves, so long as it's not their own stupidity or contrived coincidence. (The antagonist is smart or rather all the other players are just that good)

Still, it seems like very hard to be a show based on hardcore gore and edginess.

Well....it's not like the current class has much time left to live anyways. With only one person to survive in the game, it's best not to get too attached to a character. The end scene of the ED even crosses out the dead.

"Ousama game" seems to have many manga series. Which one is this anime based on? or it is original one?

At first, I thought this was going to be something similar to a murder/mystery, where the culprit is someone so sick and twisted they'd make a death game out of the King's Game.

...I was wrong.

My first impression was: "That's not how the King's Game works..."
But then again, I might've been spoiled by all the other anime/manga/games that had a scene where the characters play the King's game

My second impression was: "King OP, plz nerf."
Really, whoever this "King" is, he/she is somekind of god or demon...

Still going to keep watching, see how it plays out.
