Nah, he's playing Lord Kira a.k.a. the traitor who's responsible for killing the Ronins' master.

edit: I see the pun intended.

So Asano is going to try to kill Asano, then is forced by Asano to kill himself.
Then the chuushingura ronins are going to assassinate Asano for getting Asano killed.

Exactly, it kinda reminded me of that famous picture of the vietnamese girl running from a napalm attack you often see in school history books.

I'd vote for her performance to be best supporting actress any day.
Yeah. I think that was honestly the most emotionally upsetting part of the movie. Very few things in movies get me choked up, but that kind of scene gets me hovering near that point (My mom told me she was outright crying during that scene). It definitely was the emotionally poignant scene in the movie for me.

It helps that Del Toro doesn't have Spielberg's tendency to have kids doing superficially "adorable" things beforehand to increase the level of sympathy you feel towards them. As if emotionally normal people NEEDED some sickening saccharine display to care about children in genuine danger.

course it might just be the Jaeger pilot outfits. Or a scaled down kaiju monster.

ME3 would have been 1000x better if instead of the Crucible they built gigantic Jaegars and just punched the reapers to death.

They say Cherno Alpha is the slowest of all Jaegers. But he is pretty rapid in that scene. He came out faster than I expected.

I think part of Cherno's low mobility stats comes from it probably not having jump jets or anything. I think it's possible for it to build up momentum (kinda like a hippo), but compared to some of the things Gypsy and Striker does, it is indeed slower.

It also can't do that backflip/toss that Crimson did.

Not like any of the other Jaegers can do that either. Crimson Typhoon is specially designed to be able to do such things because it's not only a (relatively) lightweight frame, it also has three pilots, with the third allowing for such complex maneuvers to be made. Such factors are actually the stated reason it's able to perform stuff like "assault kicks".
