Tokyo Ghoul
Synopsis: The suspense horror/dark fantasy story is set in Tokyo, which is haunted by mysterious "ghouls" who are devouring humans. People are gripped by the fear of these ghouls whose identities are masked in mystery. An ordinary college student named Kaneki encounters Rize, a girl who is an avid reader like him, at the café he frequents. Little does he realize that his fate will change overnight. From: ANN The manga is pretty great, here's hoping for a good adaptation. |

I think the earlier arcs of Tokyo Ghoul have merits too, they just seem inferior in retrospect cause the later parts are even better. I'd still watch this if it's one cour, then again my standard is pretty darn low (if Amamiya delivers as Touka that's all I care about for the most part). Maybe the Goth themes would boost a niche popularity, the masks are insanely cute afterall |

Ep 1
Initial Impressions A pretty good adaptation of the source material, I think. Not stupendous, but pretty good. Ah yes - for those unfamiliar with the story it is indeed a gory one, and it is not for the squeemish - though saying that makes me wonder why I am watching it - the BD's will likely be quite graphic. Not much else really stood out for me, but at least nothing really pushed me away. I will try the next ep, though....

First episode was OK, but nothing special. It still has plenty of time to prove that it's more than just gore porn. So the doctors didn't know those "donated" organs belonged to a ghoul? From what I saw, the biological differences between humans and ghouls seemed obvious enough for them to detect it Maybe it was intentional or maybe they didn't give a damn and assumed there would be no consequences.
