...oooookay make that the Order being waaay bigger than EXCOM. They are akin to a branch of the CIA, with groups and subgroups scattered throughout Ordered Space, though more towards the Outer Rim where space has not stabilized as much as the Inner Sphere since the end of the Great Apocalypse. The Order, as with the entire of Saint Church's forces, only have immediate jurisdiction within Belka-aligned territories and only can assist TSAB forces in events outside their jurisdiction when applicable, so leaving the EXCOM to handle events in the rest of the multiverse, which is a very very very big place.

These people are mostly support elements and they are usually sufficient to handle the local bogeyman. So if you don't count them and only consider the elites, that's about 16 standing Cleric Knights (Saber, 9 of the old guard and 6 incoming). It's really really hard to find a maiden of purity then grow her into an Adepta that is above and beyond the rest...

If you are talking about actual mottos, its more unassuming, "For The Light". "When All Else Fails, We Don't" is an unofficial motto of the Sisters of Belka as a whole, passed down by word of mouth from senior to junior scouts as they make the change from girls to Adepta. Each Convent has their own motto, but its a stereotype to the Midchilda public that lumps them altogether with that misnomer. It is further perpetuated by a toy company to use that slogan for a line of Adepta-inspired action figures.

So it's not so much shared origin, though its definitely possible due to the size disparity, limits to operations and many other factors, but more of a coincidence of popculture. I think.

Well, I'd give her a slight astigmatism with a hint of myopia that started manifesting itself sometime when she was 26, though she can still see well without her glasses. In actual combat she has to use more form-fitting graded glasses.

Contact lenses are good for civilian life, but in the battlefield where shit happens, it's much better to have tough eyeglasses than fragile contacts. I've used both contacts and glasses before I got my eye surgery, and while contacts give you the feeling of having good eyesight, you pay for it with a lengthy preparation in mornings and evenings in putting them on and taking them off, and of course what happens if they drop due to sudden impact (contacts are incredibly hard to find on the floor, trust me).

According to a few sources going back in time, Alastaire got his face destroyed by a grenade in one of the small civil wars plaguing Cancri. Even though reconstruction operations were done somewhat successfully, Alastaire never got over the psychological shock from seeing his mangled face. This caused him to design the mask he now wears at all times. This also means he is not really willing to take about himself before the incident.

Following that event he joined the military and, despite getting critique for wearing a mask in combat, got promoted within a few months. He was asked to join the SNSR after much debate between his superior officers that had recognized his engineering and combat skills which led to his latest promotion to Corporal.

With much testing and practice he was given command over Section 7F within the Fox Squadron, specializing in heavy support and engineering.

It was during this time Sarah Challenger entered his life as a civilian in the town he lived while off-duty. Their common interest for engineering was what brought them together and when Alastaire found out Sarah was a war orphan, he offered to take care of her best he could since she had nowhere to go. Soon enough Sarah also entered the military and managed to get into Section 7F as second-in-command after only a year. From then on they share a brother-sister relationship even in combat and in the civilian world.

Spoiler for Personality:

Inner peace defined, he is extremely calm and a gentleman at all times, even against his opponents. The only exception would be if Sarah is under threat, as he grows extremely cold and indifferent but still retains his calm, which for the one he is after might be very scary. Also, touching his machines without his permission might be a bad idea.

He is very helpful, as that comes with his gentleman side, and obeys orders without question. He also likes things that go boom.

Type: Ranged
Modes: Several, modified by Alastaire

Luga is an ordinary gun in appearance and don’t posses much magical powers. However, it functions primarily as an ordinary gun with a small hint of magic empowering it, making its shots still viable towards magic targets. Together with other parts Alastaire have built, its potential can grow extensively with the help of modifications.

She refers to Alastaire as “Sir”.

Spoiler for Combat Style:

As Alastaire is part of the engineer, support and assault group, he prefers staying in the back with his various machines to help his section mates or other squadrons. While his combat potential is low in melee, he is a highly proficient shot at range and prefers that over anything else.

Spoiler for Spells:

Material Boost: Strengthens any object it is applied on, making it last longer before needing maintenance or replacement. Has a wide area of use.

Action Bolt: Several shots that are fired can be guided by Alastaire.

Explosion Round: Configures the next shot of Luga to be of an explosive nature. Non-guided but makes a big boom and destruction.

Machine Logic: A type of teleportation spell that brings military hardware to the battlefield without any need of transport. They have to be prepared in advance but the limit to how many he can bring relies on mass. The more mass an object has, the more it counts towards the limit. For example; a light tank is possible to summon but nothing else with it, whereas several other machines that split the same mass as the tank between themselves can be brought in. A very powerful spell that is not really applicable in combat due to a long cast time and concentration.

Rise of the Machines: Offers manual control of unmanned vehicles that usually requires a driver with the help of hacking digital circuits and a large amount of magic. He can control several at the same time but his range is limited.

Family: Both parents killed in a civil war, sees Alastaire as a big brother.

At the age of 15, Sarah was involved in a civil war named War of the Falks. Because of that she lost both of her parents, who were hiding her from resistance forces.

After she managed to flee the area, she settled into the city of Karla on the northeast coast of Southern Beskanti. There she got a job at a car mechanic and discovered her potential for engineering and mechanics.

A few years later she met Alastaire in another city, just after she had been kicked out of her apartment and lost her job due to the job market crashing. Their common interest for mechanics and engineering made them inseparable after some time and she managed to get into the position of second-in-command under Alastaire.

Spoiler for Personality:

Cheerful and teasing, Sarah loves working with machines, computer programming and developing new things. While doing so she often teases Alastaire of failed projects or similar since he rarely counters with anything but a sigh or irritation. She has an optimistic outlook on life and is always aiming upwards while at the same time looking out for Alastaire if he is in trouble. That usually leads to her needing rescuing instead however as she can be rather clumsy.

Not only does she share Alastaire’s interest with big booms to a degree, she is also a complete gun nut that has a whole arsenal at her disposal. She almost has a supply depot all by herself and happily lends out weapons to other squadrons if they need one, in the exchange of mechanical parts or ice cream… actually, if one has ice cream she would almost do anything.

As can be seen in the image above, Alastaire takes cover as Sarah prepares a barrage, sort of. The photographer had to flee.

Combat

Name: Duke
Types: Melee
Mode: Two

Duke is the main device of her arsenal and a melee weapon, similar to Graf Eisen as it is a hammer/sledgehammer. A big difference towards other Cancri devices is the storage mode which makes it the size of a pendant she have in her pocket. She invented it herself while reading about the technology behind their current devices. Further research is going on in that area thanks to her. The normal mode is that of a large hammer.

Duke refers to her as “Boss”.

Spoiler for Combat Style:

With the vast variety of weapons she carries, she prefers to stay at range but in need she is proficient in melee. Using Duke as a sledgehammer, despite its size and weight, she swings it with extraordinary agility, ploughing through enemies surrounding her.

Spoiler for Spells:

What she lacks in attack spells, she makes up for in boost spells. She is a fortress of boost magic with a big support potential and a small amount of healing. She has a big amount of mana at her disposal.

Hawk Eye Boost: Increases accuracy to a high degree and enables her to become a very effective sniper with Raven.

Power Boost: Simple boosting that increases power for the receiver.

Speed Boost: A speed boost for the receiver.

Ammo Factory: Produces magical bullets to be used by Grizzly, Raven, Prince or any other ranged device. It can be run until her mana basically runs out. A good alternative when ordinary ammo is not available.

Wrench Smash: Powerful attack with Duke.

Soft Touch: Heals minor wounds.

Digital Spirit: Infuses a small amount of magic into any system controlled by a computer and either brings it under her control or wrecks it with a virus. Firewalls and other precautions are usually no match for it, unless they are of a special kind. She must be in contact with a digital port of any kind to gain access.

A short list of the weapons she carries. She can handle them somewhat good without magic boost.
She tends to give her weapons nicknames, with no obvious reason as to why.

The reason she can carry so much at once is thanks to the research she has carried out. The storage mode she invented works for normal weapons to a certain degree and makes them more transportable. She has not shared this information though.

Raven: A sniper rifle for long range engagement. Her aim with Raven is lacking but with the help of boost magic she becomes very dangerous.

Grizzly: Basically a minigun, capable of spewing out magic bullets created by her, or regular ballistic ones. The magic bullets are in vast quantity as it’s only limited by her huge mana capacity. Excellent for covering fire, or pure destruction, but lacks in accuracy.

Prince: A basic 12-round magazine pistol.

Beetle: A regular, standard T5 grenade. She carries a lot of them though.

I think I'll write up a Cancri State Military Armory later with lists of mostly all weapons and hardware. I'll give Sarah's weapons official names by then.

Good point.

Not like I wear contacts myself or anything...gimme the ol' glasses any day. I hate things touching near my eyes.

I got this irrational feeling where I feel like I'm gonna poke my eyes out or something putting contacts in...I may be morbidly nearsighted but at least my eyes work.

I see it as a "hand in glove" relationship; the entire Order just needs permission to get out of the Belka SARAT, and they lack elites...

According to a few sources going back in time, Alastaire got his face destroyed by a grenade in one of the small civil wars plaguing Cancri. Even though reconstruction operations were done somewhat successfully, Alastaire never got over the psychological shock from seeing his mangled face. This caused him to design the mask he now wears at all times. This also means he is not really willing to take about himself before the incident.

Following that event he joined the military and, despite getting critique for wearing a mask in combat, got promoted within a few months. He was asked to join the SNSR after much debate between his superior officers that had recognized his engineering and combat skills which led to his latest promotion to Corporal.

With much testing and practice he was given command over Section 7F within the Fox Squadron, specializing in heavy support and engineering.

It was during this time Sarah Challenger entered his life as a civilian in the town he lived while off-duty. Their common interest for engineering was what brought them together and when Alastaire found out Sarah was a war orphan, he offered to take care of her best he could since she had nowhere to go. Soon enough Sarah also entered the military and managed to get into Section 7F as second-in-command after only a year. From then on they share a brother-sister relationship even in combat and in the civilian world.

Inner peace defined, he is extremely calm and a gentleman at all times, even against his opponents. The only exception would be if Sarah is under threat, as he grows extremely cold and indifferent but still retains his calm, which for the one he is after might be very scary. Also, touching his machines without his permission might be a bad idea.

He is very helpful, as that comes with his gentleman side, and obeys orders without question. He also likes things that go boom.

However, it functions primarily as an ordinary gun with a small hint of magic empowering it, making its shots still viable towards magic targets. Together with other parts Alastaire have built, its potential can grow extensively with the help of modifications.

As Alastaire is part of the engineer, support and assault group, he prefers staying in the back with his various machines to help his section mates or other squadrons. While his combat potential is low in melee, he is a highly proficient shot at range and prefers that over anything else.

Material Boost: Strengthens any object it is applied on, making it last longer before needing maintenance or replacement. Has a wide area of use.

Action Bolt: Several shots that are fired can be guided by Alastaire.

Explosion Round: Configures the next shot of Luga to be of an explosive nature. Non-guided but makes a big boom and destruction.

Machine Logic: A type of teleportation spell that brings military hardware to the battlefield without any need of transport. They have to be prepared in advance but the limit to how many he can bring relies on mass. The more mass an object has, the more it counts towards the limit. For example; a light tank is possible to summon but nothing else with it, whereas several other machines that split the same mass as the tank between themselves can be brought in. A very powerful spell that is not really applicable in combat due to a long cast time and concentration.

Rise of the Machines: Offers manual control of unmanned vehicles that usually requires a driver with the help of hacking digital circuits and a large amount of magic. He can control several at the same time but his range is limited.

At the age of 15, Sarah was involved in a civil war named War of the Falks. Because of that she lost both of her parents, who were hiding her from resistance forces.

After she managed to flee the area, she settled into the city of Karla on the northeast coast of Southern Beskanti. There she got a job at a car mechanic and discovered her potential for engineering and mechanics.

A few years later she met Alastaire in another city, just after she had been kicked out of her apartment and lost her job due to the job market crashing. Their common interest for mechanics and engineering made them inseparable after some time and she managed to get into the position of second-in-command under Alastaire.

Cheerful and teasing, Sarah loves working with machines, computer programming and developing new things. While doing so she often teases Alastaire of failed projects or similar since he rarely counters with anything but a sigh or irritation. She has an optimistic outlook on life and is always aiming upwards while at the same time looking out for Alastaire if he is in trouble. That usually leads to her needing rescuing instead however as she can be rather clumsy.

Not only does she share Alastaire’s interest with big booms to a degree, she is also a complete gun nut that has a whole arsenal at her disposal. She almost has a supply depot all by herself and happily lends out weapons to other squadrons if they need one, in the exchange of mechanical parts or ice cream… actually, if one has ice cream she would almost do anything.

Duke is the main device of her arsenal and a melee weapon, similar to Graf Eisen as it is a hammer/sledgehammer. A big difference towards other Cancri devices is the storage mode which makes it the size of a pendant she have in her pocket. She invented it herself while reading about the technology behind their current devices. Further research is going on in that area thanks to her. The normal mode is that of a large hammer.

Duke refers to her as “Boss”.

With the vast variety of weapons she carries, she prefers to stay at range but in need she is proficient in melee. Using Duke as a sledgehammer, despite its size and weight, she swings it with extraordinary agility, ploughing through enemies surrounding her.

What she lacks in attack spells, she makes up for in boost spells. She is a fortress of boost magic with a big support potential and a small amount of healing. She has a big amount of mana at her disposal.

Hawk Eye Boost: Increases accuracy to a high degree and enables her to become a very effective sniper with Raven.

Power Boost: Simple boosting that increases power for the receiver.

Speed Boost: A speed boost for the receiver.

Ammo Factory: Produces magical bullets to be used by Grizzly, Raven, Prince or any other ranged device. It can be run until her mana basically runs out. A good alternative when ordinary ammo is not available.

Wrench Smash: Powerful attack with Duke.

Soft Touch: Heals minor wounds.

Digital Spirit: Infuses a small amount of magic into any system controlled by a computer and either brings it under her control or wrecks it with a virus. Firewalls and other precautions are usually no match for it, unless they are of a special kind. She must be in contact with a digital port of any kind to gain access.

A short list of the weapons she carries. She can handle them somewhat good without magic boost.
She tends to give her weapons nicknames, with no obvious reason as to why.

The reason she can carry so much at once is thanks to the research she has carried out. The storage mode she invented works for normal weapons to a certain degree and makes them more transportable. She has not shared this information though.

Raven: A sniper rifle for long range engagement. Her aim with Raven is lacking but with the help of boost magic she becomes very dangerous.

Grizzly: Basically a minigun, capable of spewing out magic bullets created by her, or regular ballistic ones. The magic bullets are in vast quantity as it’s only limited by her huge mana capacity. Excellent for covering fire, or pure destruction, but lacks in accuracy.

Prince: A basic 12-round magazine pistol.

Beetle: A regular, standard T5 grenade. She carries a lot of them though.

I think I'll write up a Cancri State Military Armory later with lists of mostly all weapons and hardware. I'll give Sarah's weapons official names by then.

The SF-36 Raptor Advanced Trans-Atmospheric Space Interceptor is a relatively new class of combat starfighter representing the fifth generation of starfighters, and the third generation of the Trans-Atmospheric Fighter Line.

A quick history of Starfighter Generations…, there are currently five Generations of Starfighter, representing two pioneering generations, and three transatmospheric generations.

First Generation: Space Capable Fighters.
The first true starfighters were capable short range intercept craft, operating based on a larger commanding craft. Their designs were cumbersom within the atmosphere, had minimal performance, and expensive for their capability. While they could fly in an atmosphere, they had performance inferior to a standard aircraft, and were vunlerable to attack. Their advantage was the ability to hit orbit and perform better in space combat. It was only a need for small, fast craft that kept the Starfighter design alive long enough to evolve to the second generation.

Second Generation: Interstellar Fighter-craft.
These, larger, heavy starfighters were capable of interstellar transit without support, and were optimized for strict space to space operations. While fully capable in all aspects of space combat. Within an atmosphere, they were lumbering, cumbersom, dangerous, and ineffective.

Third Generation: The First True Trans-Atmospherics.
Development of GCFA tactical doctrine required fighters more fluid and versatile in their performance. The need to be able to transit between surface and orbit was important for the effective support of dropships and surface combatants. Optimized for atmospheric performance, but space capable, this generation was not interstellar capable, and their orbital performance was considered sub-par compared to dedicated second gens.

Fourth Generation: Development of the Aerospace Fighter and ASFP
At the beginning of the Fourth Generation Starfighter, Satyrntron Systems, in commission from Terracom, began the Aerospace Superiority Fighter Project, and spearheaded development of starfighters capable of performing equally well in all aspects of combat. The new project demanded a design that was equally at home within an atmosphere as it was in space. The development of the latest generations of the Turbothrust engine provided the power required to allow for this on a frame much smaller than the optimized Second Generation fighters.

Fifth Generation: Advanced Aerospace Superiority Fighter Design
To bring the Aerospace Superiority Figher Project to fruition, the final ability that needed to be integrated into Aerospace Fighters was interstellar transit capability. While advances in sublight engine technology had progressed by leaps and bounds, FTL still required a large, cumbersome hyperdrive system too large for Third and Fourth Generation Starfighters to utilize. Advances and research in power generation, weapons, shields, and other technologies had progressed, but the Fourth Generation of Aerospace Fighter design had stagnated. It wasn’t until a breakthrough came in the expanding field of trans-luminal drive technology that unified the field that a method for propelling Aerospace fighters interstellar distances became a reality.



The SF-36 Raptor Interceptor, or ‘Sef Thirty Six’, is the first true advanced all range capable aerospace fighter to see GCFA and Terracom service. The demand for a general purpose high speed interceptor capable of performing equally well both in space, and within an atmosphere in roles ranging from escort, to intercept, to CAS expedited the development of this technological marvel.
Performing in a niche envolope that was thought out-dated by military planners, the fluid capability to perform small craft roles and manage to be a threat even to capital starships is a testament to its design, incorporating advances in all aspects of starship design.

Spoiler for CHASSIS:

As a fifth generation starfighter, and third generation Trans-Atmospheric craft, the aerospaceframe was designed primarily around the designs of late generation jet fighters to maximize atmospheric performance ability with minimal engine management.

The utilization of aerodynamic lifting body and wing design allows for a fighter capable of maintaining full performance in an atmosphere with minimal engine power dedicated to counter-gravity operations.

Planform alignment shaping of the frame minimizes it’s sensor signature on active sensors and reduces instances of turbulent flow over the body of the craft, reducing friction heating of the frame from high velocity contact with an atmosphere.
Control surfaces equal to those of regular aircraft are incorporated to provide a direct, if redundant method of control within an atmosphere despite the capability of the engine and thruster assembly to perform all instances of manuvering independently.

The canopy is layered with a diamond coating laced with Carbon-Carbon strips to absorb excess heat. Further thermal protection for the pilot in the canopy area is provided by double paining of the canopy into two layers containing a vacuum between them, effectively insulating the pilot from the external environment.

To provide integrity enough to deal with hull stresses the design would meet during atmospheric, hypersonic maneuvering, the frame itself is built from a combination of Titanium Carbide, reinforced with carbon-nanotube fiber wraps and cores.

The spaceframe skin is a polymer mesh consisting of an outer layer of carbon-carbon over a strengthening layer of titanium carbide set within a mesh of carbon-nanotube weave.

The importance of the focus on structural strength throughout the frame is important when considering the high velocity and high stresses the craft will be seeing in atmospheric flight, where a high velocity, extreme G turns are common place, and run the potential of causing aerodynamic stresses to rip the craft apart.

Spoiler for ENGINE:

At the core of the SF-36 is the compact and powerful engine assembly that allows it to achieve the principles of maintainable atmospheric, space, and interstellar travel all in one controllable medium.

The engine assembly, known as the Turbothrust Model Five is the latest development in the modern line of Super Kinetic Ion Pulse or SKIP drives.

The Modern SKIP drive itself is only possible thanks to astral engineers and the development of the Linverse Micro-fusion Reactor, who’s principle was pioneered by Astral Physics Expert Dr. Steven Lineverse. The basketball sized reactor provides almost ninty percent energy efficiency thanks to astral calculations he had developed outlining how to generate an Astral Pattern Waveform capable of absorbing almost all the energy released and storing it. Allowing the reactor to be very small, easily controlled, and utilize nearly all the energy of the reaction fuel without having to use large reactions.

The main drive assembly of the skip drive operates on the well established mass driver principle. However, the most important part of the drive components is the Subspace Displacement Inversion Coil Assembly.
The development of the SDICA is based on the principle of the Subspace Displacement Drive, the mechanism that provided FTL in older capital ships. However, instead of generating an energy intensive subspace displacement on a large scale to move the whole ship. A much lower power Subspace Displacement Field was generated, inverted, within the core of the engine, and turned into a high power linear accelerator capable of hurling mass from the vehicle at up to one tenth the speed of light. At first, the primary application of the SDICA system was weaponization. But it was not long before the engine applications were realized.

The Turbothrust line of engines was developed along this principle. The principle was to throw minute amounts of reaction mass from the vessel at extremely high speed in rapid pulses to match the same thrust generated from large amounts of mass being used at low speeds. With the yield of the Linverse Micro-fusion Reactor providing the required raw energy, the ability to get absurd amounts of thrust from a minimal amount of reaction mass made the SKIP drive more practical than the ‘gas guzzling’ reaction drives that came before it.

The entire assembly is partially built to simulate the characteristics of a jet engine. As in-atmosphere drive use must be toned down due to violent effects generated from drive exhaust. Air intakes allow the spacecraft to scoop up atmospheric gasses in mid flight in order to throw it out the back, or even resupply the reaction mass tanks. These inlets will seal when full stardrive mode is in use to prevent airflow interference and thrust management issues.

The exhaust nozzles themselves are magnetic constriction thrust vector nozzles that use the high density magnetic field to shape and aim the exhaust particle stream. No part of the engine assembly ever actually comes into physical contact with the reaction mass once it’s been accellerated through the SDICA.

The Mk V Turbothrust engine assembly provides raw thrust power of up to twenty G’s, and the onboard reaction mass allows this for up to six hours continuous flight. While higher thrust values can be used in exchange for decreased fuel lifetime, the performance envelope is officially set at Twenty Gs.
As part of the onboard engine system, the Turbothrust has a built in two-stage G Limiter system.
The first stage, the active G-Force Suppression system, provides for a limited G-force manipulation, mainly to prevent the pilot from being turned into meat paste by the crushing accelerations the craft itself can perform. The second stage of the G-Limiter is an Onboard Acceleration Governor that keeps the engine itself from exceeding the capabilities of the GFS System. In tandem, the GFS and OAG components allow the craft to perform outstanding maneuvers with short accelerations as high as one hundred Gs.

The primary issue with the small size of the SF-36’s predecessors was the inability to incorporate a modern hyperdrive into the design because of its bulky size. It was surmized that the engine’s Subspace Displacement Drive assemblies could be used to provide the speed, but was dismissed because energy usage of the SDD Assembly increased exponentially with velocity and mass in use. The Micro-fusion Reactor just doesn’t provide enough power for that.
However, a breakthrough in the function of multi-fielding and layering of subspace fields presented a solution in the form of the Newton Slip principle.
The principle states that if you suspend a mass in a subspace displacement field, it no longer has to adhere to the maximum velocity of C, so long as that space moves with it. You could then use conventional acceleration methods to travel beyond C.
The barrier to the issue was that propelling that field was what ate so much energy. The key was to introduce the main Subspace Displacement Field to a smaller, inverted field used to by the reaction mass of the Turbothrust Engines.

When the inverted field is pulsed on and off with a frequency matching that of the main field, and a little reaction mass fired out as exhaust. A resulting displacement or ‘slip’ from one point to another was observed, and noted to be greater than the sum of the kinetic energy of the action would have allowed alone. A craft of light mass would effectively be able to travel faster than the speed of light while suspended in this field. And it would do so without every actually undergoing a full subspace displacement procedure, and without having to have a Hyperspace Transition Device onboard. As a characteristic of this drive, the ship never actually leaves real space and can observe the environment freely while in transit and is even capable of shallow maneuvers and course changes.

Because this event used more power, but even less reaction mass than normal drive operations, it was deemed that a craft using this system could ‘cruise’ from point A to point B on virtually ‘fumes’. The term ‘Hypercruise’ was coined to describe this form of FTL travel. The Limitation of Hypercruise of course requires a low-mass craft to be efficient. As it is stated, an increase in mass exponentially increases the energy required for the SDD to function. Larger ships have a hard time sustaining Hypercruise, and full sized capital ships are incapable of doing so.

The SF-36 is equipped with the most up to date Avionics package available to a small craft.
The fighter’s engine management computer is triple redundant and micromanages over ten thousand system adjustments a second on average to maintain operator control. The input of flight controls are simplified to match conventional jet-fighter characteristics for ease of use. Rookie pilots have already expressed their enjoyment with the ease in which the fighter can be controlled in all flight modes from VTOL to full hypersonic transit within’ an atmosphere.

To assist the pilot, the cockpit is fully equipped with adjustable instrumentation panels as well as a fixed heads up display. The pilot himself wears a helmet with a heads up display projected directly onto the inside of the visor. The helmet tracks the motion of the pilot’s head and will display target and environmental data relevant to where the pilot is actually looking. This will include zoomed windows displaying optical views, sensor readings, and various other selectable inputs allowing for a full three hundred sixty-degree view of the battlespace.

Also assisting in the information management for the pilot is the onboard AI unit known as the ORACLE. The ORACLE monitors all critical information and organizes it into priority classes and delivers priority information directly to the pilot in the form of a verbal warning. Contrary to previous systems, the ORACLE delivers messages a strong masculine voice designed to be more intrusive and urgent as to keep pilots alert. The AI accepts vocal and instrument panel inputs and follows pilot instructions.

Feeding information to these systems is the MFS-12 ‘Eagle Eye’ compact sensor array in the nose. Equipped with a full Multi-field sensor suite, the Eagle Eye is capable of monitoring electromagnetic bands, as well as subspace, gravitational, and astral fields in both active and passive functions. The Eagle Eye claims resolutions of around one meter at twenty-thousand miles in a twenty degree forward cone while other sensor clusters around the body can detect anomalies at lower resolution larger distances away in a full 360 sphere.

Spoiler for ARMAMENT:

For armaments, the SF-36 is equipped with two Stormbolt III-A7 Switchblade cannons located within the fuselage just aft of the cockpit roughly half way to the edge of the primary frame along the axis of thrust behind insets in the frame that open when in use.
Each Switchblade is a two mode combat particle cannon operating a six-barrel rotary cannon for rapid fire centered around a larger single barrel pulse cannon. The Switchblades can select between fire modes by a thumb switch to deliver the desired form of fire the pilot wants to targets. The rapid fire mode has penetration attributes similar to most low yield particle beam weapons, while the high power burst fire mode sports a modestly destructive explosive force.






Aside from the switchblade, the SF-36’s internal launch racks can house up to eight starfighter rated missiles. Four in the under bay, and two in each of the side bays.

The SF-36 is rated for the following.

- SIM-7 Shuriken standard dogfight missile.
- SIM-11 Crusader Anti-ship missile. (Directional Plasma Jet Warhead. Can also be used on ground targets.)
- SIM-56 Black Reaver standoff anti-fighter missile.
- SIM-66 Sledgehammer Heavy Anti-ship Missile. (Directional Fusion Warhead)

Load-out considerations for the Sledgehammer’s larger size reduce missile capacity by roughly half. As one sledgehammer takes up two slots of space in the bays. Exact load-outs vary from sortie to sortie and depend on the expected or recognized requirements of a mission. In strict Intercept missions, the SF-36 carries Six Black Reavers and Two Shurikens.

Spoiler for DEFENSES:

Aside from an assortment of offensive and informational management systems, the SF-36 is equipped with the best compact defense systems available.
As part of the redundancy focusing on survivability in harsh flight conditions, the SF-36s heat resistant space frame is further backed up with a low level magnetic shield generator system to minimize heat stress directly to the hull. The magnetic shield encases the ship in a positively charged magnetic field that repels the positively charged plasma that is generated during hypersonic flight, reducing direct friction contact with the surface.

For actual defense, the SF-36 is equipped with a Haven Defense Industries, Rampart II Deflector Shield Generator. The R2 provides limited protection against fighter-to-fighter weaponry, as well as CIWS batteries on capital ships. However, due to the small, economic nature of fighters in general, is incapable of withstanding heavy capital ship weapons fire due to lack of power to support it.
The shields have three major configurations. 1: Cruise. Which provides reinforced angled deflection in the forward envelope for FTL travel and radiation protection in normal space flight. 2: Defensive, which provides general protection from all directions with the ability for ORACLE to reinforce defenses on the fly. 3: Auxiliary, which provides reinforcement for protection against atmospherics in situations where the normal methods are outside their safety envelopes or otherwise compromised.

As a final protection against various missile threats, the SF-36 is equipped with a defensive flare device known as an EMP Shockflare System. The launcher, located directly between the engine exhaust nozzles, uses engine plasma to create and fire short-lived packets of super-charged plasma, that detonate roughly one second after firing, releasing a bright pulse of radiation and an EMP wave. These flares can effectively blind the tracking sensors on sophisticated missiles, while the EMP can potentially fry their circuits if they come close enough or aren’t sufficiently hardened. The plasma burst is even capable of physically damaging weapons or pursuing spacecraft if they fly through the flare right at detonation.

As a last ditch defense, the engines can be used as a particle cannon thanks to their characteristics. Unfortunately, their lack of focusing systems make them little to no threat to anything with a magnetic shield or better.

Spoiler for SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS:

Because of the capabilities of the SF-36, there are a number of special considerations for biological safety that have to be addressed in the function of this fighter.

First and most importantly, is adhering to the Engine Hazard Protocol. As discussed earlier, the Turbothrust MK V engines have an air-breathing mode for atmospheric flight. No special air composition is required, just a gaseous state atmosphere. The reason for this mode is because of the issues with high-energy star drive exhaust. As stated, the SKIP drive fires reaction mass out of the nozzles at ten percent the speed of light. When this high velocity particle stream, discharging matter at a rate of half a pound per second, comes in contact with the local atmosphere, the effect is the equivilent to firing a particle collider… Or, Instant Nuclear Torch. This would have horrendous effects on civilians, as well as destroy the local eco-system. The computer is capable of handling the engines and controlling the switchover, as well as the power being run through the drive assembly itself. However, there is an override function available for emergencies or making special use of the engine. It is advised against making use of the override however unless all other options are exhausted. The potential for loss of life alone is as considerable as a tactical orbital strike from a capital ship.

The other important safety consideration is the limits of G-forces on the pilot’s body, as well as the frame. Structurally, the frame can handle a fantastic positive and negative G loading. However, pilots alone can only withstand up to nine Gs for a very short time. In a craft capable of accelerations in excess of twenty Gs, the functionality of the GFS System to neutralize a good deal of these forces on the pilot is paramount. Beyond it’s envelope of protection, the remaining G force handling must be governed by the OAG system protecting against or limiting extreme G maneuvers by capping engine output.

Because of the high performance envolope of the SF-36, and the stresses involved, we opted to forego the popular 'transformation' feature on a number of practical and technical reasons.

1: Transforming Variable Geometry vehicles have over twenty thousand moving parts. All moving parts require constant maintanance checks and repairs. Maintanance techs have expressed their displeasure at having to nearly 'replace half the fighter' after any major sortie.

2: Transformation Components create a structural weakness in the locations of 'joints'. It would be unfortunate if the vehicle snapped in two during a 100 G high speed turn and form-switch combo. This craft performs accellerations and manuevers consistantly well above the performance envolope of any other system, so structural integrity MUST be preserved.

3: The added components for the transformation systems increase the size and weight of the vehicle. This would impact its agility and apply further stresses to an already weakened spaceframe.

4: Transformed modes offer little to no improvement to the combat performance of the vehicle. The vehicle does not require legs to stand as it can hover without effort, it does not require limbs to manipulate equipment as its weapons are in-built. The ability to 'punch an enemy craft in the face' is completely meaningless when the inbuilt weapons can blast a hole right through it. 360 degree angles of engagement offered by the ability to move limbs around is also meaningless as the vehicle itself is small enough, and agile enough, to turn and engage targets just as quickly.

5: Transformation components would quintuple the vehicle cost. Both in the procurement, as well as over the long term as maintanance and structural integrity issues make themselves known.


As you can see, the inclusion of a transforming structure in this vehicle would not only be costly, but maintanance intensive and a structurally unsound safety issue. As we stress the survivability of our fighters, we chose not to compromise the safety of the pilots for a capability that is limited in its practical function.

I hope you understand our decisions and will review the design further.
