As I don't want to rehash this topic even further, I'll only focus on this one point.

Errr... You do realize that Tenchi Muyou was considered the father of harems for a reason, right? Overpowered protagonist with a harem of girls with different personalities? A tsundere, a loli, an air-head, an aggressive girl, and a smart girl... So yeah.

You are right. I was wrong. I do think it's safe assume TM did popularise some or even lot harem tropes.

This has been an enlightening discussion. I hope you guys do reach some sort of conclusion/consensus because then I'll have a more appropriate idea on who's responsible for the most blame.

Anyway, I checked this out because I was attracted by the well done trailer and first episode didn't disappoint...in terms of art and animation. This season is a pretty heavy one for me (7 shows) so I won't pick this one up, but I appreciate what the studio have done so if reception remains positive I'll be paying attention to Studio Bind's future works. They've certainly made good first impressions. For time being, I guess Re:Zero can be my go to isekai for this season (and I suppose Wonder Egg Priority counts too).

Just finished episodes 1 and 2, I like the changes. This is hella strong. MT is my favorite WN probably, so, boy am I glad. This is the anime Index deserved, but glad to see something as exceptional as MT getting it instead.

What I wonder is why this series took so long to be adapted. Whether it originated many tropes or not (Truck-kun counts as a biggun, I guess), it was undeniably popular and well-reviewed while innumerable bottom-feeding zaku isekai were getting adapted.

I'm speculating here: I'm sure anime production committees would not care as much, but it is a large work, both with a significant number of novels behind it and a large amount of characters to cast for. I can only guess whoever was holding the rights (the author, the novel publishing company) wanted to make sure it got an anime with big enough production money behind it. Whether it was for love for the work or for greedier reasons so that they could capitalize on its existent popularity even more we can only speculate, but I certainly am very grateful for it.

One only has to look at other big name isekais that got a good enough treatment like slime or re-zero to see how much of a cash cow this kind of shows can become when done properly.

Apparently they even made their own studio specifically for the anime's production, which I think goes to show the level of effort they're putting in to make sure this gets adapted right.

In any case, this would've been an instant success if it came out even 5 years ago. At this time, the first impression is that this show is completely superfluous.

I've got to admire the spirit of the creators, whose plan is something like:

It's 2020. We're going to put together a new anime studio, hire the best VAs, get a bunch of veteran animators and work them to death...in order to make a LN adaptation isekai fantasy harem anime, and we're going to do it right, and better than the million others that came before.

I'm not sure whether to call this ambitious, or just plain retarded. How did they even get the funding?

Whatever, I mean, it's still good and I'm going to watch it. I just have serious doubts whether this is going to be a profitable venture. And it's almost certainly not going to reach any kind of ending.

You are forgetting MT has already massive fanbase to begin. Even now 6 years after completition it's still 5th most popular novel on Syosetsu contemporary (irc beating both Re-zero and Slime) and still in 1st cumulatively. With that also come word of mouth.

Not to mention there is still ongoing LN, two mangas and apparently iOS game, which will probably all get bump in sales thanks to anime.

Oh, that explains the funding then.

I wonder why I'm hearing about this title for the first time now.

Where are you getting these weird statistics? What does "contemporary" even mean here?

As far as I can tell, MT is only #3 overall, after Slime (#1) and Tondemo Skill (#2). Last week it was still #4 behind Arifureta, but the anime push seems to be having effect.

It's not bad so far. Granted the main guy is a perv who gets away with it because he's in a kid's body, but I appreciate the effort going towards sending a message of self-improvement.

Cumulatively result I got from Wikipedia, 5th spot actually not sure, but it dates week or two back. If I stumble on source I can let you know, if not it's up to you whether you believe me or not.

I must say it is kind of irrelevant as the only creditable source for Narou ranking is Narou itself. And Narou is already open for everyone to see.

finished episode 1

Glad that finally I saw Rudeus and Roxy... so happy
I'm expecting a lot of timeskip but they actually doing it decently
They explained difficult magic theory since the beginning as well (and even simplified it so it is easy to be understood)

I hope this adaptation could fulfill the expectation

I knew our protagonist was kind of trashy, but masturbating in your room instead of going to your parents' funeral...to be honest, I don't blame his (presumably) siblings for beating the tar out of him and kicking him out. But at least in the end he was a good enough man to push himself to save those kids .

Speaking of those kids, we've got two boys and a girl. We saw one of the boys in an ambulance after the accident, while the boy and girl were missing. They seemed to be arguing about something .

Well, Rudy's Rudy, his parents have a very active sex life (Rudy's little sister incoming?), Roxy masturbates to her host family having sex, and then Rudy enjoys watching Roxy masturbate. Is the maid the only one in this house who isn't horny ?

Roxy is a demon? She definitely doesn't look the stereotype, but it seems like humanity and the demons were able to come together after the war. Well, all of them except the Superd .

So it seems like the major milestones in Rudy's life will be 5 (which he is now), 10, and 15. Roxy said she'll take his confession seriously when he's 10 years older, so I guess they'll reunite when he's 15 ?

Poor Roxy...questioning her own self-worth and whether she even deserves to be seen as Rudy's master when he's seemingly way more powerful and capable at magic than she is .

Well, looks like Rudy's taken to magic quicker than swordplay, but his dad doesn't seem like the most adept teacher. At least he got a nice sword for his birthday .

So Rudy was basically an overweight, Otaku, shut-in who was relentlessly bullied. I can't blame him for wanting to still just stay at home in his nice, pleasant, house with his family but it's not good to remain a shut-in your entire life, especially after being reincarnated .

Holy crud, Roxy killed the horse! Good thing she has healing magic .

Roxy may not have anything else left to teach Rudy, but she helped him overcome his trauma and move on from the person he used to be, and for that he will be eternally grateful towards her. She truly was his master .

When the maid catches you with stolen panties that you forgot about .

Well, looks like they're going the Re:Zero route of no Opening yet, but we did seemingly get the Ending, showing Rudy in his life and with the girls who he will meet (and will likely fall in love with him). One of which had green hair, so is she a Superd ?

Nice to see Rudy growing up so fast. Happy birthday to him and I see Roxy is settling pretty well in her life. The balanced amount of comedy and drama in this week's episode was well executed imo. The narration adds more flavor to Rudy's character as well. Hope the anime can keep it up when they got more characters are introduced.

The way they depict Rudy as a kid is also quite amusing as he behaves like a kid would at his age. The chemistry between Rudy and Roxy has sold well so far too.

With a dash of old man perversion .

It'd be worse if you knew what he was masturbating to.
Spoiler for LN spoiler?:

His old self was beyond trashy .. Still, I can't hate Rudy. Quite the contrary, especially as the series progresses and a lot of character development happens.

Already saw this episode on pre-air but was a nice rewatch in a higher quality. A really good episode .. It was over so fast. The budget on this anime seems ridiculous if they keep this up. The animation and detailing, backgrounds etc is all very very visually pleasing.

Also .. Roxy
