Edward Archbold was willing to do anything to win an exotic python — even if it meant eating bugs both crunchy and slimy.

His enthusiasm ended up killing him.

On Friday, the long-awaited “Midnight Madness” giant roach-eating contest at the Ben Siegal Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach kicked off around 7 p.m. with food (besides bugs) and drink to celebrate the occasion.

A teenager has had an emergency operation to remove her stomach after drinking a cocktail laced with liquid nitrogen while celebrating her 18th birthday in a wine bar.
Gaby Scanlon, from Heysham, Lancashire, was with friends at Oscar's wine bar in Lancaster city centre when she began to feel ill, becoming breathless and developing severe stomach pain.
She was taken to hospital at 11pm on Thursday, where she was diagnosed with a perforated stomach. Surgeons operated immediately to save her life. Lancashire police said: "Medical opinion is that this would have proved fatal had the operation not been carried out urgently." She is now in a serious but stable condition in the Lancaster Royal Infirmary.

this street is odd lol, it's close to my house so I went there and left my car with the gear set on "N", and the car started to move up the street not down.

Don't think so. She only bought that "cool looking drink". She had no reason to think something sold apparently legally would be so lethal.

The bar owner is definitely going to jail for this.

Who uses liquid nitrogen in drinks for effect? I though most still used dry ice for such things.

You are supposed to COOL the drink in the liquid nitrogen, not MIX the drink in liquid nitrogen.

Looks like someone didn't do well in science there.

I do not think the man who died eating those roaches would be eligible for the Darwin Award.

The bugs used in those contests are bred in a clean environment, as pet food for exotic, expensive pets.
They do not have any venom in them, nor do they carry the hazardrous bacterial found in common roaches.

Meaning, eating those aren't really any different than eating crabs and shrimp, just a whole lot more grotesque.
There was no need for concern as a participant for fatal illness.

Most likely the man who died had a natural allergic reaction to something in those bugs, that he had no idea of.
Which can happen to anyone, had the individual not been exposed to the said chemical before.

So the death is not due to the stupidity of the contestant or the organizers.
Thus, Darwin Award would be looked over for this poor fella.

Why? Lots of people eat insects and are fine. Including the runner-up of that contest.

Hacker Goes on Massive WoW Killing Spree; World Survives:

"It was a case of death imitating art. Or at least virtual game world imitating
cartoon. In a scene reminiscent of a famous South Park episode, a hacker went
on a massive killing spree in World of Warcraft over the weekend, taking
advantage of a vulnerability to off hordes of characters in the popular online
game before game administrators stepped in to stop him. His massacre was
captured on video (see above).

The bloodbath is similar to a popular 2006 episode of the animated series South
Park called “Make Love, Not Warcraft,” in which the cartoon’s four lead characters
faced off against a player in the massive multi-player game who went on a
character-killing rampage."

But how do you kill that which has no life?

I loved the closing line:

Quote:
World of Warcraft players didn’t really lose anything in the massacre. WoW characters can get their lives back. WoW players, on the other hand, have already lost theirs.

Edit: and this is pure genius

Teasing over flatulence leads to deadly fight

Quote:
WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -
Police say a 16-year-old girl is dead and another 16-year-old girl is in police custody. Officials say the girls were fighting around 8 p.m. Wednesday at 4769 Walford Road in Warrensville Heights.

According to witnesses the victim was teasing the suspect because she passed gas. One thing led to another and fisticuffs began flying. Witnesses also tell 19 Action News that several adults stood around and watched the whole thing go down, including the victim's stepfather. But by the time he intervened, it was too late.

Sounds very much like the typical tabloid news we have here, stupid people killing each other over something trivial and could've been resolved peacefully.

Just makes one proud of humanity.... where *are* the damn tigers? They'd clear the gene pool especially if we up-armored them and gave them guns.
