The 2nd episode, it's revealed, at least to me, the childish side of Odanna. He was totally sulking when the old guy (forgot his name) tried to steal Aoi away from him.
I am curious as to what happened between him and Aoi's grandpa. And who the world is Aoi's grandpa? How can a normal human travel in between the two worlds easily like he did? I'm throwing out the possibility that he might have had some ayakashi blood in him? He even had a night parade-like visitation during his funeral. And there was never any mention of Aoi's father...or did I miss that? Given why Aoi's mother left her, I'm guessing she is the daughter-in-law and not the daughter of Aoi's grandfather.

Well, this show might not be entirely my cup of tea, but there's at least one good thing coming out of its existence: character songs! More Konishi Katsuyuki singing, yes, thank you.

Also, it appears that Ginji was the ayakashi who gave her the ayakashi food when she was small... |

EDIT: Just re-watched the ep and, yeah, the curry...it certainly does look like Ginji may be that Ayakashi that saved her when she was younger. However, didn't Ginji say that making onigiri was the only thing he knew how to make? Although I don't really know what it was she ate there...a fruit? Also, it looked like her mother abandoned her in her home for who knows how long before she was found and taken to the orphanage, I guess. Although I don't get why the other Ayakashi claimed that Aoi's marrage to Odanna brings doom to the Hidden Realm? Also, why were the serving girls giggling about the flower clip blooming? Is there some special meaning to it all? Hopefully I'll get my answers in future episodes.

I think that food looked like an onigiri. It was, well, white. And round. (And wasn't Mii-kun.)
I also don't want Ginji to be evil(-ish), especially that we already seem to have a villain group (introduced in episode 1). But curry rice aside, the previous ending seemed to show that Ginji would be more important in the story than just a potential hopeless suitor (why else would he be the only one featured in the ending aside of Oodanna & Aoi who are obviously the main couple) so maybe he has an angsty past or something that will come into play. Yeah, that was also a bit awkard. Perhaps the flower is real (we've seen a more, er, flowery kanzashi before), but the impression I got was that he was having her on and she didn't realize it until she saw him laughing. Maybe. |

^I have a feeling that they feel doom because she’s Shiro’s granddaughter—didn’t he kind of do whatever he wanted while there?
Good episode though the situation with the Yuki Onna seemed forced and I didn’t think the bonding between her and Aoi would happen this fast. Suzuran’s voice actress could use a little work to be honest. The young master of whatever area was Tomokazu Sugita wasn’t it? |

Actually, I think it's the animation that needs a little bit of work.
The characters barely changed expressions and there were a good number of still scenes. Both made the voice acting seem a little out-of-place. At least, it did to me... |

I still need to pick up the song he did for Sengoku Night Blood. This might be a good time to order both. I wouldn't be surprised if the flower blooming has something to do with Aoi's budding affections toward Odanna.

Actually, listening to that mystery Ayakashi carefully, he sounds a lot closer to Odanna than Ginji. Plus, I think we got a huge clue with how she asked him to call out her name. I notice how Odanna has a habit of saying Aoi so often. So right now, I'm actually leaning towards Odanna being that mystery Ayakashi; although it is a mystery how Ginji knows about the curry. Quote:
It's also a big mystery how Aoi can enjoy eating innards with demons. Doesn't she question where (or who) those innards originally belonged to?

Episode 5 is out. As one of my favorite food, I personally like how they showed the process of making dumplings.
In terms of character cast, I really like how they showed Shiro's past along with his connection to Suzuran and Akatsuki. It made his role more meaningful and showed the type of person he was back then.

A tiny bit of disappointment in the quick pacing. Suzuran in human world, kappa scene and going back with Oni can be made into another episode.
For one they never explain why kappa being there at that moment alone. Actually all of the kappas left after Aoi stop feeding for some time, only the shy kappa stay behind waiting for Aoi. Which in the end follow Aoi to the hidden realm. As for both Suzuran and Oni scene actually have slightly longer scene in novel. Anyway good job in duet ed song by the siblings.

I like fried gyouza more, but aahh gyouza. So delicious. (So annoying to make.)
Also, what a nice duet in the ending. For some reason there aren't a lot of anisongs with a male/female duet, so I always enjoy it when I hear one, especially with such nice vocals. |

This series has surprisingly good character songs...at least the 2 we've heard so far. I still like Odanna's song more but the siblings' duet was very nice - matches their situation perfectly.
I really like how subtle the romantic relationship between Aoi and Odanna is building up. It's not obvious or overdone like most other similar anime.

Yes, while it's still not a character and dynamic that I tend to like, he's refreshingly not a dick to her, and they're not antagonistic either. I like his gentle teasing of Aoi, too - Konishi's performance helps with that, he conveys the warmth and humor without sounding too in-your-face.

That ninja and assassination attempt were surprising. I expected this to be more slice-of-ayakashi-life type of series but it looks like we have more drama going on beneath the surface.
I wonder why Odanna suddenly decided to take Aoi out for a free lunch? At first, I thought his invitation was to discuss what happened the night before but...no? Matsuba wanting to stay with Aoi... ...and we meet a new character...Byakuya! ...but why do guys with glasses most often get portrayed with such a stereotypical personality? Quote:

I'm liking Odanna more and more. At first, I thought he would be the typical male MC often portrayed in shoujo or shoujo-esque stories like this - especially how he was first introduced - but he's actually quite mature in behaviour towards Aoi.
Really love the hotspring (eggs!) scene; was such a sweet moment between the two. I seriously hope these two get together in the end. One thing I really dislike for a romance series, is when the canon couple doesn't get together in the end or it's an open ending. And I have to admit that the scenery images in the series are beautiful! Edit: Looks like Ginji goes to the apparent realm often since he knows/tried all these apparent realm dishes he suggests to Aoi. Now I'm wondering if the masked Ayakashi is really Ginji after all. From the curry and this, it is certainly strongly hinting toward Ginji more than Odanna. But it looks like there's something more going on with Odanna towards Aoi as well. Makes me wonder what's going on between Odanna and Ginji. I have a feeling there's going to be some kind of conflict that will arise between Odanna and Ginji. Quote:
Well, finding the mystery Ayakashi seems to be one of the main underlying theme of the series. Looks like she got another clue in the latest episode. Can't remember if it was mentioned who governs the southern lands.
