Yoh Yoshinari Shares Info about Upcoming BNA: Brand New
Animal Anime in Latest Newtype:

"In the anime's story, in the 21st century, the existence of animal-humans came to light
after being hidden in the darkness of history. Michiru lived life as a normal human, until
one day she suddenly turns into a tanuki-human. She runs away and takes refuge in a
special city area called "Anima City" that was set up 10 years ago for animal-humans to
be able to live as themselves. There Michiru meets Shirou, a wolf-human who hates
humans. Through Shirou, Michiru starts to learn about the worries, lifestyle, and joys of
the animal-humans. As Michiru and Shirou try to learn why Michiru suddenly turned into
an animal-human, they unexpectedly get wrapped up in a large incident."

Hmm, I didn't think people would be sleeping so much on this.

Japan Netflix in Japanese only. Subs were done, but some people either don’t know about old school ways to watch anime or choose not to use them.

It's just weird since I'm pretty sure people know about the other ways to watch this show if they wanted to. And Trigger usually has a bit more fanfare. I had to search for this thread and I was surprised no one had talked about the series since January!

Though I can understand that some people didn't even know the show had debuted early and the first 6 episodes are out already.

Anyway, so far, if you like Trigger and all its Trigger-isms, I'm pretty sure you'll like this series. It's been pretty great so far.

Got through all 6 episodes and I enjoy how they are exploring Animacity. Also, they don't concentrate so much on how much humans hate the beastmen, but more so on the culture of the beastmen themselves and the city.

Yes, you do get to see the different types of prejudice from the humans, from the blatant violent hatred of the hunters in episode 1, to the indifference/seeing the beastmen as oddities as in episode 4, or the ones who seem to want to use them for profit, such as the man in charge of Sylvasta Pharmaceuticals.

But you also get to see the culture of the beastmen themselves and see that they aren't perfect either. Mostly because their beast nature and human nature seems to clash, mixing the law of the jungle with the law of man in a weird mix.

Michiru is rather annoying at times with her naivete and sometimes being pretty pushy, but charming in other ways.
Opposite of her Shirou is a pretty cool character and I'm interested in seeing more about him and his past. He's the main fighting force in the series, and his guardianship over the beastmen.

How did I totally not realize that this show had started up again? Well, on to the next episode! Or I guess episodes?

A whole set of 6 dropped today? Again? Well, at least I'll have something to keep me busy.

Huh? This is all the discussion there's been? Is the wacky way the show is being distributed keeping people from noticing it?

Personally, I didn't take an interest until I started seeing fan art of Michiru with Akko from LWA. After two episodes, I can see why people are drawing it. They're very much alike! (And that's a good thing, btw...)

I think the distribution is most of the problem, as relates to the English fandom.

Plus, I mean - it's not like this is some sort of masterpiece. It's pretty good and fun, but forgettable for the most part.

Yeah, I agree. I just finished it and it's exactly as you said. I will say that it's definitely the type of show you can recommend to a newbie anime viewer. Which sometimes feels like a rare thing these days.

So I finally got round to picking up this show: I've only just seen the first episode but I was massively impressed. Wished I had picked this up sooner. I was particularly impressed by the episode's ability to provide so much information about the socio political setting and the main lead's background seemlessly and involving. I'm hooked.

Episode 1:

ignored this show because I thought it would be like that other anime with animal people (rabbit and wolf), so boring that I dropped on episode 1.

glad I took a peek on this one, because this anime with animal people is quite good!!

gonna watch some more of this after I finish up some other things.

8/10 for first ep.

I found this show extremely nice and easy-going, and the animation was (obviously) quite great. Is there any news on the possibility of another season? I'd love some more of this.
