Got myself the IS, it feels like the higher tiers you go, the worse stock versions become.
Stock cannon is a joke, even if I successfully flank tier 7&8s, I often can't penetrate their side armour. Even had one penetrating shot against a Hummel, but dealt no damage. Guess I'll slowly upgrade it with free exp, at least until I get a better gun.

The game currently has, in the Soviet line, the "IS," which starts out with the underwhelming 85mm D-5T. The IS-2 is blended into the same vehicle, since the 122mm D-2-5T and D-25T can be unlocked and installed later on. (As well as the 100mm D10T.)
But yeah, that 85mm doesn't seem very effective; I've been complaining about it on the KV-1S. |

I don't think GUP win by luck there. that tatic will work 100% unless all enemy camp base.
the first match, you can see that there are a T110E5 and M48 Patton guard base, they both got killed, two Obj.268 come back next but still can't reset base cause there was too many tanks in the cap and they don't know which 3 tanks is the tank with cap point to reset. one Obj.268 got killed as well. the second match, enemy was going the same direction as the rush go, the minimap shown that there was a lots of heavy and some med go hill, but as they are heavy and just some non-fast med (Patton is slow), the GUP team with fast tank have already climbed and started to drop down the hill to cap by the time they got there, with 2/3 team cap like that, there is no way the other team could have reset the base cause they again, don't know which tank hold the cap point. the only way to win against GUP team here is to have all tank camp base, which they wouldn't do unless they know which tank GUP have and what tatic they will use. it cause that FV is a noob and don't know where to shoot, both Cent 7 and FV4202 use the same gun that have 268mm pen which is the highest pen for non-TD and arty gun, that gun can pen any TD front if they know where to shoot. if you don't believe me, get in the training room and I will show you.

The other way to win is to not attack immediately, but to split the team up into groups that move slowly and cover each other, with scouts probing all parts of the map. They would discover the GuP force and then be able to move accordingly. What those clans did wrong was that they themselves took the southern route in rushing. Had they gone for the hill GuP would've been destroyed.

Actually the best way to counter that GuP tactic is to have sufficient firepower on both sides to stall the advance, along with people guarding the base. As a GuP clan member, I participated in a clan battle once using the exact same tactic. The plan was for the ones with fast lights (T-50-2's, ELC AMX's, A-20's etc) to rush one side while the ones with high-tier heavy tanks would stall and distract the enemy on another side. I was one of the latter group with my M103, and watched as our light scout column stalled due to the enemy positioning equal numbers of heavy tanks on both flanks.
Suffice it to say that match ended in a loss. Future clan battles I participated in since then had used higher-tier vehicles, ever since more members have acquired much better tanks.

Hm, from experience, it seems like Tier 9 and 10 medium tanks seem to outclass the heavies in the current "meta" -- mobility, firepower and HP seems to matter much more than armor.. which logically makes quite a lot of sense really.
