Iran tests home-built anti-aircraft system: report

In New York, defiant Ahmadinejad says Israel will be "eliminated"
http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...88N0HF20120924
They say than a sword is dangerous when stopped making noise but Ahmadinejad might be more of a loose canon...

Well I wonder if US and Israel are playing the silent game and egging Iran into starting the war first.

He is not but his boss haven't told him his place and to shut up, so to take him as the sole representant of this insanity on the Iranian side could be far stretched.

Question, was it Israel he wanted eliminated, or just its government? (much like Western powers generally don't want to destroy Iran, just get rid of its leadership).

The first carrier of China enters service today

The ex-Varyarg is now called Liaoning. Nobody outside knows if take off or landing has been tested on it yet.

Iran has constitution and procedures, too. And as far as the domestic battle between him and Khamenei is concerned, he has lost it. He has failed to achieve effective control over the republic, and is now basically simply waiting for his day out. In the end, Ayatollah remains the supreme authority in Iran, and the matters concerning Israel will be his to decide.

They've had it for a nearly two decades (an ex-Soviet carrier), but more recently decided to rebuild it and commission it for service again. They have several carriers, just most of them are scale models that are landlocked and used as hotels and amusment parks.

I think they are keeping it like the way the US is keeping the Iowa class battlecruisers; for recreational purposes until things heat up.

I blame the Japanese for giving them the idea through the design of the SDF-1.

Saying China has a carrier is along the lines of saying Peru has a battleship. Nobody is impressed. Maybe after China has shown they can actually do something with it, then we'll see.

Indeed.

Even the French and the British have more experience in using carriers, and I'd still trust them instead of that Chinese carrier for peacekeeping missions when the Americans are not involved.

The fact than India have aircraft carrier could be more important, as both share a border than isn't free of tension.

In fact, France use carriers since the end of WW2 (althought the Navy made some prototypes in the 1930's), and domestically-produced carriers since 1961, so we have a long experience with them.

But the fact than right now they only have the Charle-de-Gaule mean than they can't keep their presence somewhere for very long as boat can't stay at sea forever. The UK will end u with the same issue.
