And so my favorite fight in the series begins with a bang. & of course the juicy parts won't be until next weeks episode, though you've just gotta love the start of it. Especially 17's shocked faced at Piccolo's first few attacks.

Cell should be appearing at the end of next weeks episode, so i'm surprised the preview didn't show that.

I just love that disturbing "purr" Wakamoto does for Cell's voice. What a creepy bastard.

Ok, the fight was pretty awesome. I think 17 is the only character who doesn't use ki attacks, which makes the whole thing feel like a good old kung-fu fight (with flying!).

Oh, and there's new fight music, for sure!

Spoiler for 73 ending and preview:

Definitely.

And yes the preview is surprisingly spoiler free they didn't even show the beginning of 16 vs Cell (surely it will start next week?)

Looked like it. They didn't show them fighting, but I think they showed the scene where 16 reveals he's around Cell's strength and steps up to take him on.

Does the opening theme stay as Dragon Soul or does it eventually change?

Sure was. Started at 18:24, and went onto during the last part of Piccolo vs 17. Such a fantastic new pieces, which really captured the suspense of it being a fight just anyone can win, though at the same time having to end it very quickly. Also Cell's appearance on the battlefield actually sent chills down my spine.

I suspect it'll start about the half way mark of the episode. I'll be surprised if next weeks episode will fit in
Spoiler:

& i'm calling it. That was easily one of the best episodes of Kai so far.

I love it. Piccolo starts settling down and preparing for his next salvo, happens to glance around, then BAM...Cell staring him right in face. =)

One thing the Android/Cell saga does better than any of the other arcs, IMO, is compounding one dire situation on top of another. Feels like the Z-crew was up against it since the word "go".

Yeah i agree. Since 19 and 20, it's been one hell of a situation.

Also, it's almost time for Tien's time to shine.

I like that they reference the Kikouhou again. It was hyped up to be so much in Dragonball, it would've been a waste if it wasn't put to use in Z.

Well, it was used against Nappa... just didn't do a damned thing except destroy his armor.

Oh man that was an intense battle between 17 and Piccolo. Getting more than the usual punches in and having them do things like multiple reversals makes for a great fight.

Really liked the fight in 73, definitely one of the best fights. It's great because it's so dynamic and not a show of light speed punches, kicks and a light show in general. It felt like a fight of that caliber should feel, more or less. A lot of other fights really feel cheap and doesn't have the suspense at all.

It's nice to have 2 opponents that are just that close in strength. A lot of times it can turn into one guy having a real advantage before the other gets a power-up (the life of the Freeza fight). Here it's just too close to call though Piccolo is in trouble due to stamina. Although the damage he's inflicted on 17 seems to be taking its toll. Definitely one of my favourite fights.

This is definitely one of my favorites, too. I like 17's fighting style, and Piccolo is probably my favorite character. The part where they exchange smashing each other into the ground, resulting in massive craters is just perfect, fits DBZ so much. I remember liking the upcoming Cell vs. 16 fight a lot as well, though I don't remember it very well. It is just nice to see these unorthodox matchups without Goku, Vegeta, or Gohan involved.

If anyone is interesting in seeing the difference in Wakamoto's performance between Z and Kai, then check this video out.

Wakamoto has clearly become a more versatile VA since the original series. The old clips sound like most characters I've heard him voice, whereas the new ones you can definitely see how he makes an effort to add "Cell-like" effects to his voice. That's great.

I haven't been keeping up with Kai lately, but that's pretty interesting actually. I always tend to think that he has such a distinct voice with little variation in it, but listening to those two back to back, he really can add some differences to his performance
