The 'brawl' is nothing but the map with a single hero lockout, so if you feel like trying it you can (though you can't get achievements from it).

Won 7 and lost 3 in my placement landing me at 2790sr. Since then it's been draw after draw. ·_·

So I finished my placement matches yesterday. I placed 2550 (barely Platinum) much to my surprise. It was surprising because I won 5, lost 3, and drew 2. I expected to place somewhere in the middle of Gold, but I'm guessing the fact that I had 3-4 gold medals every game in a variety of different roles throughout my placement matches meant I placed a bit higher. I'd love to work my way towards Diamond, though I'm not sure that's possible in solo-queue, due to the dreaded "ELO Hell" as people are calling it.

I'm personally stuck in Asia server Gold ranking. Can't get past 2300 because the Taiwanese and South Koreans seem to predominate 2300+, and the assbeating that comes with the group.

You need to recruit more Taiwanese and S. Koreans to your group, then. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Well I lost 8 straight games and dipped under 2000. Sitting at 1997. Gah.

Edit - Losing streak. Down to 1887 but surprisingly I haven't been demoted to silver. I think it's time to retire from Competitive for this season.

Pretty sure that they said you won't get demoted from your current rank unless you are master or GM, I think.

Well either way it's essentially a 10+ game losing massacre.

You don't get demoted from any rank at or below Diamond. But yeah, I've seemed to win and lose my games equally, and I'm kinda just treading water.

So patch 1.4 is on PTR right now.

With it comes a major UI revamp, as well as some balance changes.
Ana:
-Ultimate cost increased by 20%
-Biotic Grenade radius increased from 3 to 4 metres
Widowmaker:
-Scope-in animation time reduced from 0.5 seconds to 0.3 seconds.
Junkrat:
-RIP-Tire now activates more quickly.

Also, characters now say a voice line when they get Nano-Boosted by Ana.

As if Junkrat's Riptire needed to be better.

At higher level play, people know how to react properly and either take it out, absorb it or only allow one kill. It took a significant buff of Mei for any defensive champions to start being scene on the higher ranks and on the pro scene.

Problem is that at lower levels of gameplay, these buffs only make the heroes more cancerous. These things are changed so that extreme coordination aren't the absolute end of a character's kit, but ensure that they're naturally powerful (read: OP) in any team that isn't fully pre-formed. It completely shafts everyone who isn't a pro-player, which is the vast, VAST majority of their playerbase.

What point of reference are you using you define "lower levels of gameplay".

Junkrat is a shockingly niche hero who is insanely easy to deal with (all abilities, not just ultimate) who falls over the moment he is engaged. He's a short-ranged artillery unit with limited mobility and zero recovery (and the mobility is at the expense of damage).

• Any sort of medium-to-long range engagement and Junkrat is ineffective.
• Any sort of shield/defensive barrier and Junkrat is ineffective.

Junkrat is only really powerful in close quarters. Can't tell you how many times I've gotten behind him as Tracer and killed him with one magazine to the head. And as Soldier 76 or McCree he's so easy to pick off from outside his effective range that it's pathetic.

If you're having trouble countering a hero, it's YOU who needs to get better, not the hero that needs to be nerfed. Everyone still complains about Genji, but a single decent Winston can shut him down hard.

Until the Zenyatta remembers to use the Discord Orb, but that's a different issue :P

Genji is so easy to shut down with Winston it's not even funny.

My problem with Junkrat is that at close range he is able to dish out an insane amount of damage with his concussion mine with absolutely zero skill input. Lower-health characters who have every business being where they are, are suddenly ANNIHILATED by an ability that can be thrown out every 8 seconds and hit multiple people. It takes too little skill to rack in kills so easily.
