I honestly didn't expect this amount of fanservice in a Kyoani show. There was more bounce in this episode than in the entirety of Amagi Brilliant Park. I'm actually interested to see how far they're going to go with this. Mai could easily surpass Sento as the hottest Kyoani girl.
The animation was godly as usual, which is the main reason to still watch Kyoani shows nowadays. This one is definitely no exception. It seems like one of these LNs with a generic premise that thinks being self-aware makes it ok to overuse all sorts of clichés (I cringed during that fall scene). The cast do seem fun at least, and while the story isn't original, there's nothing inherently bad about it either. I can see it ending up being a show that's rather fun and yet nothing special.

Ep.1
Usually, I am the person who: 1) Welcome any form of fanservice 2) Easily enjoy genetic plot/story 3) Give the importance to character more than story. ....I shouldn't have any problem with this anime but....sorry Kyoani, I think the overdone comedy and non-serious atmosphere kills this anime for me. It feels very forced that they tried to make all scenes "funny". Well at least, I like Reina's character so I will keep on watching but I don't feel that I'm looking forward to see it every week.

On the other hand that was a big component of Sento hotness, imho. If not handled with care this amount of fanservice could easily cross the line fast, despite Kyoani and their ability to make it looks less fanservice than what actually is. In any case since this was episode one I'm expecting they will tone down both in pace that with Mai's ... monique and unique exuberance.

Very interesting use of breast physics, something every high school kid should learn.
Excellent animation quality as expected of Kyoani. Nice pacing and the action is well choreographed albiet light-hearted. A nice intro for a show. I find the fansevice rather tasteful and doesn't impede with the flow of the show. |

Pretty fun first episode
The explanation of phantoms and supernatural kids seemed a bit half hearted but the comedy was perfect Really liked how they trolled the lucky-pervert-fall and the bouncing-boobs trope Will be looking forward to the next ep

The show, taking everything together, should actually be something I should have hated and dropped halfway in.
But I don't, and I don't know why. I'll give it 2 more episodes and see if I can figure out this weird disconnect.

I'd say that the main thing that ep 1 got wrong is that it's not clear what type of show it's trying to be. Is it mystery (ie mob/problem of the week)? Well, maybe but the examples so far seem a bit weak / simple. Or is it more about character relationships? We've already had some setup/development there with new character joining the "team" and there's hints about the MC being interested in the "loner" girl. I suspect it's a mix of both, similar to Hyouka and I remember the problems many viewers had at the start of that series, though I found the episode to be weaker than the first episode of Hyouka, mainly due to the MC's position being less clear.

so how does the virus outbreak work again? it allows the human race to see & interact with the ghostly supernatural beings along with being given super powers in the process,
but it now also affects the world's surroundings which could have never happened before the outbreak such as the Phantoms causing physical damage or normal things suddenly came to life such as the wooden poles, seriously, this is less being a viral outbreak & more towards somebody accidentally opened a portal to another dimensional plane of existence because a virus will not cause a ghost to materialize as a solid & can now smash a house instead of just pass through the walls like, well, a thin air ghost, OR the Phantoms were also happened to be infected by the virus along with the humans that had powers in the process. |

This is probably "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" thingy. Phantom coudn't affect world because they weren't observed.
Well of course this kind of philosophy doesn't have much meaning, but fiction worked even with less.

Episode 1
This was a bit of a fun start. It had some nice humor. I mean, the bouncing boob plan was just too funny and also pretty smart. Reina is a nice girl. Easily best girl here. But other than that and the animation, it didn't exactly feel special or anything. It did give a nice intro to its world I think but it didn't improve the general image this episode gave of the anime. I'll stick around for the animation and maybe the comedy I guess. |
