Looking for game rec that are slow paced rpgs, sim or stratergy
Hi all.
I'm currently trying to find a nice game or two for my mums laptop that slow paced and puzzle, strategy, rpg or sim styled. She rather enjoyed the earlier Final Fantasy games, but was turned off by 13 focus on action and flashy light effects onwards. Anything good I can grab of Steam for her? |

Seconding legend of heroes for classic jRPG, adding Valkyria chronicles for tactics and Puzzle Quest: challenge of the warlords for puzzle games.
For RPGs, be sure to check out the Tales of series, as well as I am Setsuna, it's pretty popular - for good reason. |

Tales of Berseria is currently $20US on Steam, down from $50. Its battle system takes a while to get used to but it has one heck of a story and character cast. Less cliche than JRPGs usually are in that instead of being the heroes, you're something different and far more meaningful.
Recettear is $4. It can seem a bit simple/slow early but it gradually ramps up. It has a charm that is hard to deny. Darkest Dungeon is a must if you can handle something difficult, grim and unforgiving. Epic narration, very good music and a system of battle that forces you to make tough/strategic decisions when RNG puts you into a real bind. $10. The Witcher 3 is $20. One of the most intricate RPGs in recent years. Some things get a bit 'adult' - fair warning in case that's an issue. But in terms of innovation, detail, value for money, playability - hard to go wrong. Hand of Fate 2 is $27. This one is a very different and very enthralling kind of RPG. You are in a long-running face-off with a dealer and he has an improved version of the game that fixed the original's issues big time. Via scenario cards, you play out tales and deal with what fate/luck/your own skill throws at you. Part strategy, part battle, part card/tarot, part RNG. A very cunning/worthy narrator, a system that will reward and punish risk and caution alike, but darn fun and one of the best games of 2017 by far. Not on discount so your call. But damn, it is good. Seinarukana is a somewhat older one that took until the start of 2017 to get onto Steam. Is part VN, part RPG but the RPG side is very involving and requires a LOT of strategy. Once you understand its system, it becomes a rewarding challenge to plan/decipher what it throws at you on top of its time management system and the rewards that only come from doing the game optimally. Art was quite nice for VN art. You get a lot of game time and 3 different difficulty levels that highly alter the power levels/strategies of your characters. $15. Will also vouch for the Legends of Heroes and Valkyria Chronicles series. However I don't think Valkyria is discounted this sale for some reason. Maybe save that one for mid-year. Steam sale ends in a tad under 48 hours so get the major discounts while you can.

Can second on Seinarukana about the strategy part. Most RPG can fix your problem by just lvl up/grind lvls. But in Seinarukana lvl up isn't very important. Using the right skill at the right time is what it takes to beat the game.

Forever Home has a fairly normal difficulty curve for an RPG, though some of the bonus bosses are designed so that normal RPG tactics won't work.
One Way Heroics is a roguelike that also sidescrolls, so you're forced to continue moving east towards harder areas. It's not as hard as most roguelikes, since it'll allow you to store items in a vault if you either complete a run or die. There are also several secret endings you can obtain if you fulfill certain conditions, like running to the end of the world. |

I third the legend of heroes titles, like the trails of the sky games. They feature a female protagonist (in trails in the sky) too. Though the other series have male protagonists too. It's top tier storytelling. Other than that on Steam IDK... maybe 999 if your mom doesn't mind dark stuff like that (it's extremely well-written though imo).

Recettear is highly recommended, low requirement with cute aesthetic and a good marriage of RPG and business simulation.
Haven't played Stardew Valley but since it's similar to Harvest Moon, it's definitely worth introducing it to your mom. The legend of Heroes is also worth buying since it's very traditional JRPG and have a great story. NIS released a bundle containing their previous turn based strategy games that's worth looking into if your mom likes FFT type of games. If your mom is into grand strategy games, some of Paradox's older strategy games are fairly easy on most laptops.
