I'm a sucker for a good romantic comedy anime and this one is great. Love the animation and artstyle, especially the fact that everyone has lips! Very rare for an anime for the animators to accentuate the lips like that; makes them a bit more expressive, imho. Love the vibe of this show. Can't wait to see the main character learn to love music apart from the bad experience he had from his mother's "training". 10/10

Pretty good first episode. I liked the character designs and the animation quality was pleasing. Of course, I hope the quality maintains this way to the end...
Also liked the OP/ED and its male singer. But I do wonder how muddy the relationships are going to be. At least a Love Quadrilateral, it seems... But yeah, I'm looking forward to a romance anime, though as of now, it also looks partially like a music anime, so the percentage is...? Hmm...

Ep 01
*applauds* An excellent first ep for me, and one of the strongest premiers thus far. This one was one of the series I most anticipated, so I am happy in that regard. The only drawback is that I did not like how the violin girl and the childhood friend were physically abusive to Kousei - this sort of thing really, really bugs me (old pet peeve with anime in general). Especially since he has a pattern of being physically abused and bloodied as a child by his demanding mother when he would not meet her expectations. Such things do not sit well with me. The childhood friend should know better...though I wonder if she knew he was being beaten? It's not like the bruises and scars vanish overnight. But that is just a small blight on the otherwise lovely first ep. Insta followed. I can already tell this series is going to vigorously wring me out like an old dishrag. Been a while since I came across a series that can do that. I wonder if this will do it well or poorly? Fingers crossed.

Oh, how I feel for Tsubaki. Being the one to introduce the one she loves to her future rival-in-love, when all she had in mind is his well-being. It's heartbreaking for me now as it was in H2, naming the one most prominent in my head.
As someone who caught up with what is translated in the manga, I wish I can say more. Heck I didn't want to read the rest of the manga after getting acquainted with the first chapter, but I couldn't help it. Oh well, at least this series is making me want to know what happens next despite already reading the source, so that's saying a lot actually. Definitely my #1 pilot episode of the season, even though Parasyte had more thunder (partly because it's been like a decade since I last read it so it definitely had more impact). One thing that has made me sad though is it's Taneda's first major role opposite the childhood friend. First time for everything, but still... :'( Quote:
Now of course she wanted Kousei to come so that he can be reintroduced to the world of music, but whoah man, does it MAJORLY backfire on her. Everyone benefits from this 'double date', except for her where it's one step forward but two steps back. So nope, definitely don't think she went out of line here. XD

Another show for which I had above average expectations at best but talk about being pleasantly surprised, there’s definitely potential for a great character-driven story here, one with really good visuals & music to boot. Also, that was some good characterization we got there in this 1st episode which further reinforces my belief that shows truly want present some well-written characters will at least give signs of that from the very beginning. I can't help but have high hopes for this.
Kousei & Kaori will inevitably be drawn to each other but for now,I wonder if there will be anything more between Kaori & Ryouta since for now,it's obviously just a crush that she has on him. |

But aside from that, it was a truly superb episode that hit all the right notes, while accentuating them with wonderful character designs, direction, and overall visuals.

That was a fantastic premiere on every level. The last three minutes really have me worried about the future though. I'm afraid the relationships are going to be a complete mess. It's only the first episode and we already have a love rectangle on our hands. From my experience, this isn't a very good sign. And then there's the musical aspect of the show. It's what initially drew me in, but I'm afraid it's going to play second fiddle to the romance. Perhaps I'm being too paranoid. For now, I'll just wait and see. No use worrying too much over stuff I have no control on anyway. I can only hope this show will avoid the usual pitfalls, like Nodame managed to in its time.
These last three minutes aside, I absolutely loved everything else. The direction, the art, the music, the characters and the narrative were all top-notch. Throughout the episode, I kept thinking there was no way any other girl would top the childhood friend, then the blonde girl's amazing introduction scene happened. I was as blown away as the MC was. I don't know what to think anymore, who is the best girl?!

Err, is it not possible to have the English title in the title for the post? It was there last night and I almost had a heart attack this morning when I didn't see it this morning. Only reason I found the thread was because I remembered it was a NoitaminA joint

Firstly Dat OP.
Secondly, Omg Nodame cantabile vibes all over. Thirdly, oldschool noitamina is back baby (the last legit one that was in line with the old noitamina theme was Bunny Drop in 2011) Probably the best premiere episode I've seen alongside Parayste and if tone keeps up (please don't go too overboard with crying and wangst...) contender Top 5/10 material of the year. Liked the episode, OP is really nice. Also drawing style is really interesting, not standart. I think I'll love this anime. 10/10

This may become the best this season if managed well. Killer first episode. I love music. I love good execution. I love classy premises. I love deep characters. I love good voice acting. I love good directing. That all happened in this episode.
10/10. I have really high hopes for this. And as opposed to others, the comedic violence didn't jar me at all, because ... it's different. |

Stunning, extravagant, beautiful, colorful, touching my feelings in 20 minutes towards this episode.
The manga although not frequently updated is currently at my estimate up to ep 6-7 of when the anime catches up maybe so a lot of new content is coming can't wait. Been a while since I've watched a feels anime when not knowing what will happen.
