An emotionally strong first episodes that sets the underlying tone of melancholia for the rest of the season.
Sure, all is still cute and zany, but this first episode reminds us that the joy of childhood will eventually come to an end. At least this lets us prepare ourselves for 24 episodes to grieve instead of suddenly smashing us with a sledgehammer of sadness like the ending of Azumanga Daioh did.

I think given the amount of episodes they have enough time to end it with a finale graduation concert[or maybe something more] to impress us with hopefully songs they haven't used before. If it can pull of that kinda of ending I'll be truly happy with the second season.

I am wondering if they're keying the end of the anime with a wrap-up of the manga (rather like Toradora! synchronized the final novel volume with the end of that series).

hmmm, thread decay double post: An interesting review of K-On! that seemed to hit some notes I've also noticed that many naysayers seem to miss.

On the most simple but effective level K-On!! reminds us of something that western crap like Seinfeld and House try their desperate-hardest to make us forget.
"It's more fun and healthy to watch happy people who are nice to each other rather than miserable losers who are mean to everybody."

Definitely a possibility, as the manga has advanced the story to the point where the four originals have gone to college...
And yes, there's already controversy of Yui and Ritsu having boyfriends like most university girls as cute as they are. Geeze Louize, it's manic otaku that can't accept people who have kissed and are no longer virgins can ALSO be nice that give us all a bad name.

Well, although these incredibly moe 2D girls can supplement a lonely otaku's existence, it can't replace the 3D girl he is supposed to get for the rest of his lifetime. But given the harsh fact that the girls over there are rather high maintenance and have ridiculous expectations of their future husbands, most of them just extend their "temporary" solace with these cute little things for as long as they can. Anyway, where can you find a girl who's as cute, cuddly and talented as Azunyan?
