:P I know about female mantes eating their partners, although I might look up the fireflies anyway. I was more commenting on the speculation that the insect woman/mother in this chapter was the same girl as the one from chapter 2, which was quite a while ago and furthermore which we all presumed had a 'bad end'. The point was that this chapter seems to imply that they copulated and she conceived before the scene we saw in that chapter, which was heretofore unknown.

i believed there is a type of insect that mate once and can hold sperm within them. They only fertilize a certain number of eggs at a time.
when female firefly flashes the light they are looking for both a mate and lunch, Or if they are tire just lunch.

Solace: You have to remember the metamorphosis... which, given the experimental nature of the procedure, led to this. And it's quite fitting... that that leads to this.
Sol Fading: The whole point of it was that these people weren't taking care of the kids, and were treating them more as a fashion accessory now that childbirth didn't involve a lot of effort on the parents' side. Which was the whole point - the process made it so easy that it was valueless, once the fad-appeal had faded. So the callous way the whole matter was treated was definitely a deliberate choice on the author's part, and one designed to provoke the responses it's caused here. The way that doctor was marketing the procedure didn't help either, so I found the ending quite fitting... especially given that she had no intent to carry on research afterwards, which would've revealed the flaws in the procedure. Well, to be fair, all those people didn't seem to know who Fran was as the doctor advertised the whole thing as her own creation. I love how Fran was unconcerned by the whole matter though. |

Didn't think they actually copulated when I look back at that page in ch2.
Spoiler for ch 2 ending:
The sequence was... they were both nervous. They turned off the lights. Then THAT happened. Her clothes were still on. But I guess we'll just accept it as it is.. |

Granted I went "er..." when she mentions that the procedure involves introducing extra RNA. We'll see how that part turns out. |

On the other hand it may very well not be her at all, or the author could be changing the story or adding to it later (like he did with Adorea). Given how much the series jumps around sometimes (like the bits with the police lady), it's hard to say. For the record I hated chapter 2, mostly because the poor guy really didn't deserve that ending. I almost hope for a sequel where she brings the body to Fran to make him like her or something....I'm the odd kind of hopeless romantic maybe.
