Dont dismiss the flying takoyakis. Those little shits are a pain in the ass that denies air superiority that is important in that kind of battle. As long as they are here, the big guns and the squishies would be sitting ducks.

They didn't feel particularly menacing this episode though.

While sending the whole fleet to destroy both the Wo-class Carrier (sad that she was sunked off-screen) and the Midway Princess, I feel that it's a bad idea because it would leave all of the Naval District vulnerable to Abyssal Fleet's counter-attack.

Still, it's a good episode to end this series. Of course, the fans want it more...

Bruhhhh, that was an action-packed finale. That Airfield Princess was a real menace, and the waves of fleet girls coming in at the scene were awesome (especially Nagato and Yamato. They got MOVES :3). What really disappointed me was how that Wo class carrier with the blue eyes didn't even put up a fight. The show hyped up her danger for like the last half of the series, and she got sunk like it was nothing. Oh well. Can't wait for the sequel!

Also, was that Kisaragi's hair piece thing floating up to the surface? And Give what back????

I was thinking that she wants her time spent with Mutsuki back. It's sad that the Midway Princess was actually Kisaragi!

Okay, finally watched eps 12. Some noticeable points:
-Oh hey, Akagi didn't die. I am completely and utterly surprised by that /SARCASM
-"So what does this makes us, Kongou-san?" "Big Damn Heroes, Bucky!"
-Wow, this FATE talk is getting seriously meta
-Obligatory lesbians made the OP pose
-Airfield turned into Midway Hime. OK, I genuinely didn't expect that. Whatevs, BOOBS!
-Have I mentioned how meta this whole Destiny and Fate thing is?
-Looks like Nagato gets to be Big Damn Heroes too. Wait, why did Yamato look pissed at that?
-Loli squadron has arrived. Khorosho.
-Wait, Ryuujou and Jun'you only got shown in the distance and from the back? Boo!
-Nagato PAWNCH! Nagato KICK!
-Abyssals have force shields now?!
-OH NOES, they just keep coming. looks like we need more Big Damn Heroes. But is there still a foreshadowed character that has yet to appe- FUCK YES TAIHOU!
-Looks like the Admiral's internet connection is fixed (shit, now I'm going meta too)
-Final Round of Love, Courage and Hope, RAWR!!! Oh wait, wrong series
-Wait, Kisaragi's pin? So she's the leak after all? And was that Hoppo whispering on Fubuki's head?

Right, might as well give my final impression:
Was it full of cliche? Were the battles sometimes odd or silly? Was the noseless CG bad? Yes, yes and Yes.

But you know what? It's adapted from a practically story-less browser game. That fact alone had put my expectations nearly rock bottom at the start, and it turned out better than I expected. The CG was tolerably rare, the non-CG's were pretty, Fubuki's waaaay cuter than her game counterpart, Kongou is spotlight thief, they didn't shove pantyshots to my fucking face like Strike Bitc- err, I mean Witches....and I fucking love the Soundtrack.

Could it have been better? Well, duh. MI just isn't the same without Akitsu Maru bitchslapping Midway with her guns and planes, and I can't believe there's zero submarines and Germans present, but eh, everybody has their non-appearing waifus to complain about . It's from a fucking Free-to-Play browser game, the trailers never promised something groundbreaking and cerebral, and I sure as hell never expected them. I like what I got. Besides, there's plenty of doujins for the non-usual (and thus more commercially risky) stories out there whenever I'm in the mood.

Am I gonna watch the sequel? Sure, why not.

Not bad, but I'll drop Fubuki's Kai-2 plot. Speaking purely of the anime, her least lovable moments were between Yuudachi getting her Kai-2 and Fubuki's body deciding to concede the point rather than risk destruction. And the worst part is ... they didn't even use it! Fubuki did shoot down a few fighters, but that's within the arc of anime plot and the anime didn't make explicit her use of the Director, so it feels like it was all for nothing.

I'll start throwing in Kisaragi in Ep1. We only have 3 episodes before we lose her and we need every moment to make her more of a character. So in Ep1, Kisaragi is still in TS3. Fubuki will replace her when she gets up to speed. In the first battle, Fubuki is not expected to be a combat capable unit so is outside of the regular structures, but tags along to see what fights are like. She still gets into trouble but is saved.

In Ep3, with Fubuki getting a provisional Sat, Kisaragi moves to TS4. The rest of the episode is the same. Less death flags. Kisaragi bites the dust.

Ep4, yeah, let it be. Don't make Yuudachi work hard just yet - the idea is kind of everyone is distracted over Kisaragi's death.

Ep5. Keep the fleet restructuring, but Fubuki does not become flagship. I know this anime is about Fubuki, but MC does not mean Hero every Day, and shafting five other characters until she can become flagship is not the way to go in my dictionary. Just show her improving, maybe even making some good points and that would be enough. Let Kongo lead the fleet - a MC shines more when she's in a band of good people than when she is leading the blind as the One-Eyed Man.

Ep6. An episode is too much to blow just on curry, so we have a Yuudachi centric episode. We learn that Yuudachi has transferred to be with the Akatsukis - the aces of the base (look at where they are in Ep1 - from a pure anime standpoint, I really didn't like how they were sneak-sidelined to Expedition duty; looks way too much like a demotion). Yuudachi realizes that she can't quite keep up with these destroyers who look several years younger than her. She gets the motivation to improve. Along the way, we can slip in the curry contest, which the Akatsukis want to join, dragging Yuudachi behind them. They go on the mission for that "Golden Spice", which they get, but not before a fight with the Abyssals (in the anime's equivalent of the Solomons, perhaps?) Yuudachi finds her spot and does something MVP worthy. The "Golden" thing gives them the edge for victory - I get the feeling that Ashigara actually made the better (if spicy) curry in Ep6, but Nagato sided with the Akatsukis.

Ep7: Put the Yamato episode here so we have two lighter episodes back to back. On finishing, we get serious.

Ep8: Effectively Ep7. Kaga gets knocked out. OK for the stuff about radio, but perhaps it might be time to introduce the "Fate" concept here. Shokaku gets hurt. Let Fubuki keep her creds here. Except we can add one detail. Everyone decides that Wo was Tai-haed but Fubuki, who inwardly wonders whether taking out one eye with one 5 inch shell counts. Since she's not the flagship, she doesn't get to make the choice. There, now Fubuki looks smart. Somewhere near the end we spend one minute on Yuudachi, who is doing repeated sweeps somewhere in the Solomons with her group.

Ep9: Yuudachi glows. Fubuki wants to get a Kai-2 too, of course, but is told she probably won't make it. Apparently, hard work is one thing, but whether you get a Kai-2 depends on the qualities of the past ship, its possibilities ... etc. Since HIJMS Fubuki was unfortunately a most ordinary destroyer with a most ordinary battle record with no intended mods in her lineage (and a quick death), sorry probably not. She sulks for more of the episode than actual (if we are going to angst, let's Angst). Base gets bombed by the supposedly Taihaed Wo (now Flagship Kai).

Ep10: Yuudachi isn't sure exactly what special event gave her a Kai-2 but actually spends some time telling Fubuki what she did do. Fubuki gets happier knowing that her friend did have to work, but that doesn't solve the problem of her Kai-2 and working with Akagi, which looks farther away than the moon.

Yuudachi asks her that if she had her choice of Kai-2, what might it look like. Fubuki's answer and reasons are obvious, and Yuudachi suggests that if possibilities can count, then maybe Fubuki can just create the possibility from the present rather than the past.

They run to Yubari who spends some time making a radar, FD director and gun for Fubuki, so she can practise with a form similar to her desire. The rest of the chapter involves Fubuki working smarter, with Mutsuki and Yuudachi helping her look up information and all. She gets good at shooting down planes, but she doesn't glow. Yuudachi says this is something she can't do even with her Kai-2, and Fubuki will be a good escort for Akagi. Fubuki starts to almost forget all about Kai-2 in favor of doing her personal best. As she gets this epiphany, she glows and Kai-2s.

Ep11-12 Midway. Please Akagi, look like you are fighting smarter. Look like you are fighting Fate. Make Fate work. And when Fate works, it’d be nice if it was cleverer than repeated respawns and a gamey failure to kill boss until you kill carriers.

(Ironically, Ep12, for all its flaws, did manage to put Fubuki in almost the right relative position. Let's keep it this way.)

Part of me wants to see the Akatsuki class kids use the anchors in melee combat, but the rest of me knows it's not possible. Nagato using melee was kinda ...
The torp cruisers didn't play a part after taking out 8? ships, well you might have 80 torps but if you use them all in one go, you got nothing left other than that watering can

See nobody died (in this episode) like some people wanted it (and some posters even confidently believe it will happen). It's not really a "tragedy" anime per se.I still believe Kisaragi is still alive and and being hidden by the kuso teitoku in this anime...

. . . That's it? I feel cheated. I waited the entire episode for something different, something that will make me feel anything, to no avail. This anime ended up being what I feared it would be - mediocre - which is the greatest sin.

Wait, what? And who's the Midway Princess. All I heard was "Airfield Princess" being dropped.

Airfield Princess evolved into Midway Princess when she regenerated.

People think that because her hairclip surfaced right after the battle. There is absolutely no confirmation for Kisaragi to be either Wo-class or Airfield Princess. To be honest personally I think not even the show itself knows why it's there.

It drifted undersea. Then it will drift until it hit the American shores and gets picked up by Forrest Gump.

I didn't think the final ep was quite so bad (though all the abyssals patiently waiting in a circle around Kitakami and Oi while the two had a discussion was facepalm material), nor the series as a whole, but the biggest problem for me was the revved up recent pacing that began in the ep Fubuki got an upgrade in.

Before that ep and after feel too different for me, and it is jarring. Kind of a pity that they went that route as Fubuki before and after that don't quite feel like two different people, but it the contrast stuck out like a sore thumb.

I think if they had been able to keep the pace and feel of the first 3/4 of the series or so it would have been better...at least for me.

Well the Kisaragi reveal took much longer than I expected. I was expecting it to play a bit of mind fuckery on Fubuki.

But yeah...I don't like the idea that I have to wait for answers in the next season, if it gets made.

Overall enjoyed the series and the concept, so I do hope a second half will come.

"The budget ran out": Super Wo being sunk offscreen between two camera cuts.

Airfield/Midway Hime gets a tiny bit of dialogue, which consists mostly of game audio clips, while the actual Big Bad, Wo, has no dialogue because game Wo doesn't have any dialogue.

I had the realization then that the Strike Witches Neuroi would have been just as good as villains. There's just about as much characterization, but they never bothered to talk. I am probably spoiled here by all of the Abyssal fan art, but in the end, the anime didn't even try to make the Abyssals more interesting than the generic mooks of the week. Wo could have been interesting, and there was that tiny glimpse where an Abyssal ship took the bullet for Wo, hinting at something more interesting going on, but that went nowhere in this season.
