I was hoping they'd at least address that you can't have a "wish away the witch problem" or "invincible+godly-power"-style wish. I mean, there's gotta be a phrasing of the former that doesn't fall under a curse... Or maybe you'd have to so much jewel seed farming that it'd become a moot point.

Eldritch abominations aren't really that fun as villains. It's kinda hard to get a good crazy cackling laugh out of a tentacled rose bush or its mighty swarms of Pringles-monsters.

Good episode overall, but that upside-down woolen glove with roses on it as a witch was a real let-down
Labyrinth as a whole wasn't all that great.
At least we got to see more of Mami's Unlimited Flint Works

Interesting episode over the background of becoming a magcial girl. It's quite fresh information to heard than "I'm going to protect my loved ones." or something along those lines. Mami was great in action with her guns popping out of different areas of her outfit.

This is a witch? Really? o_O

The ending song sounds great. Background music is very good. I'm interested on the OST now. I'll check out next week's episode. The show is really showing alot of fresh changes of a magcial girl anime. I don't know about the witches tho.

It appears so many people disliked the witch because of the awkward animation and how the witch was drawn out.

I loved this episode and keep watching it ... like 10 times... I am really liking Mami and wonder what all of these girl's wishes are. My guess so far is Hamura's must be to save a life or something along those lines to have such a bad reaction being asked ... can't wait to find out...

I have no problem with the witch's world, but I am used to Shaft.

The "Yuri paranoia" was pretty funny, especially given how close all-female friendships involving the female lead of Magical Girl shows tend to be.

Mami is awesome in combat, and the music is excellent.

But yeah, while I do appreciate SHAFT's trippy artistry and animation style, I would have preferred if the witch herself had looked a bit more, well, like the witches of Umineko, lol.

Still, that's almost my only complaint so far. Very solid show so far.

Local newb here with my two cents on episode 2.

Spoiler for Madoka Magica Episode 2:

Soo....am I the only one having getting a Mai-Hime vibe just from the premise of Puella Magi. The whole "girls get magical powers to fight supernatural monsters, while simotaniously haveing to deal with each other" just screams it.......but then again that could just be me.

Magic girl summons endless flintlock rifles........Sailor Moon would have been hundreds of times better if they had thought of this earlier. I can safely say Tomoe is my personal favorite out of all the girls now....due to ass kickage. Sayaka is a close second.

But....First manly cotten balls....then manly multi-eyed flying icecream.....and now...

..........I can see I'm gonna have a hard time taking the monsters of this series seriously. Honestly.....looks like someone threw up and attached a raggy piece of grass carpet and wings to it...then added a few roses to make it pretty.

All in All though, I think I'm liking this anime. Magical girls + Giant Guns = Entertainment.

Having rewatched the series a few times now, I have to agree this is the weakest episode of the show. I do understand that it's purpose is to set the status quo for the rest of the series (or at least make it look so) but honestly, it felt more like padding. Really unnecessary padding. There are hints here and there for whats to come, but it's really the closest thing to a filler in this show.

I guess it does help that it works better being a weekly episode as opposed in being in a marathon, since it helps sets certain expectations about the show.

I honestly faceplamed at what I had written back when this episode first aired after rewatching this fight. It was just bad, plain and simple.

If there was anything I had trouble with writing about this show, it would have to be the animation. Since obviously all of this is fixed in the BD release, I find it hard to say that it's going to stay bad, but at the same time I'm annoyed at SHAFT being incapable of maintaining quality in their shows, two episodes in -_-

Really, the show is stylistic, in either the TV or BD versions, but I have a hard time praising it if the TV version looks like an ''incomplete'' episode, even though it shouldn't.
