Nice codex. But I'll be honest here. I personally do not like the Cleric-Knights much, since they are too good to be true. As with their History alone, you mention they are only ones suited for battling all these alien enemies, and stuff. I dont mind them being powerful (as they surely are), but making them the only ones is just too much. They seem way too perfect.

Haha, I guess what I dont like is "flawless" stuff.

Also, I wonder why the High Council will want to make use of Cleric Knights, since CKs are on the good side of the alignment spectrum. The High Council, as seen in StrikerS, is extremely corrupted. Instead of the CKs, I can see it using Scaglietti's Numbers or even a criminal organization. The Church using the Cleric Knights makes a lot of sense to me, but the High Council as well? The HC didnt even care for RF6, even though RF6 was practically created to protect it from any threat. Of course, the brains didnt think Scaglietti would betray them, but still. Maybe the High Council "does not mind" the existence of the Cleric Knights, and thus it doesnt interfere with their operations (since what the CKs are doing does benefit the HC anyways). The ones who actually care for anything are Carim and the Church, as we have seen in canon (they were the ones concerned with Midchilda's safety and everything). You probably dont need the Cleric Knights to be involved with the High Council at all.

To further my point, imagine that Kha takes orders from the High Council. The orders would be not to interfere with Scaglietti at all, without a reason given. I wonder if Kha and the Cleric Knights would listen to that? Hell, what would the Naaru say about this as well? I can actually see the Naaru telling Kha to get rid of the High Council, as its corruption is beyond salvation.

Just a thought.

Welll...Kha basically OC-fied W40K's Grey Knights. Greys are pretty much like how that said(compare with Wikipedia's Grey Knights entry ), extra-fanatic servants of the Emperor. Except we have no resident Emperor, so they worship "The Light."

I made some changes to Caro's problematic Limiter Break using what I dreamed of originally, and from the suggestions made. Here's the sample:

LIMITER BREAK: Princess of Voltaire

A mark of a great summoner is the closeness he/she is to her chosen guardian, and the best summoner and summons fight side-by-side as one unit.

After summoning Voltaire, Caro gattai’s with Voltaire, jettisoning her Barrier Jacket completely and materializing on a special saddle within an undetermined location inside Voltaire, assumably in a closed reality within Voltaire's gem on his head. A better example of this saddle in action can be found within this ancient video of Midget and her friends using summon creatures when they were younger.

(I was forced to bring that design forward. Thanks to Nighty for the head gem idea, and of course Midget. )

This gives Caro the ability to share knowledge and boosts with Voltaire and at the same time allow Voltaire to protect Caro, allowing him to focus fully on the prey. And he needed to, as Lutecia did the same.

As the pilot of Voltaire, Caro can help Voltaire with whatever tricks she picked up from watching Kha and Erio practice, allowing her to wrestle Lutecia’s summons to the ground twice. They also gain access to several new skills:


Rastaban Beam - Energy beams are launched from the eyes, after Caro stammers the spell “Ra-ra-ra RASTABAN BEAMUU!!!”

Laevanteinn– Voltaire summons his blade from his tail by yelling, “Howl, Laevanteinn!”, then charges to attack.

Fire Breath – Voltaire blasts the enemy with a column of fire similar to a Divine Buster.

Scale Fire – Voltaire unleashes his scales like shurikens in all directions. They then catch fire and speed towards targets under his control.


Caro knows that Voltaire has a companion spirit, Ampere the White Tiger Queen, and after growing to trust Erio, she and Voltaire agree to choose Erio as Ampere’s bearer. However, the boy has to win the capricious spirit’s favor before she agrees to be in contract to Erio.

Voltaire noted that, at the end of his battle as he was returning to his astral plane, he commented that Caro had grown much stronger than when she first called him to make a contract, and someday, he hopes that she can use Dragon Soul Summon on bigger things. This makes her recall that Voltaire had another form, which the Elder called Shin-Voltaire, and she promised to the vanishing creature that she’ll strive to attain that, so he could once again “Voltaire can dance his dance in the sky.”

Later, when Erio proved his worth to Ampere, Erio, Caro, Ampere and Voltaire can gattai into a powerful, summon creature that no living person has seen, and that the Lu-Lushe villagers call by only one word out of sheer reverence:

Jin.

In City of Heroes, one of my characters is a Super Reflexes character, which relies on "defense", in this case meaning "dodging attacks" (the other damage mitigation techniques are Damage Resistance, a la "Your blows are as nothing to me", and Health Regeneration, a la Wolverine). In other words, her main source of survival is Not Getting Hit. And she really does it very well.

The problem is when the opponents get lucky. There's always a 5% chance to hit, and if those one-in-twenty chances are strung together, then she's doomed.

I see Fate as something like that: if she's good and lucky, the opponent will never hit her, and she can engage in melee all she wants. But one very lucky hit, especially in Sonic Form, and she's down.

See also: Ninja Blink-tanks in FFXI, which, in roleplay terms, kind of operates under the same principle. And then there's the Dexterity stat in D&D, especially coupled with a feat or two preventing flat-footed attacks: "A god-stat by any other name..."

Keroko works by the same prinicple. In fact, her defenses are even worse then Fate's normally are, in return she gains a higher agillity. To use to Kagerou's comparison:

To compare using Star Wars of all things: Hayate is the B-Wing, Nanoha is the X-Wing, and Fate is the A-Wing.

If Fate is an A-Wing, Keroko is a TIE-Interceptor. Highly agile, capable of flying circles around pretty much everything and virtually untouchable, but get in a lucky hit (like what happened in Alpha) and she's done for. She can block small blasts, but tow in anything iher then that and she is in trouble.

LANCE RIFLE


Lance Rifle: Long Range Concentrated Magic Projection Device

"Designated the 'LANCE RIFLE' by it's developer, Cooper, the Lance is the latest in high precision, long range magical combat devices. Unlike conventional devices, the Lance Rifle is not meant to double for melee combat. It is expressly, a projectile launcher... Designed to have the magic bolt capacity to strike a target at twenty-thousand meters. An insane range almost never seen in magical combat scenarios. However the Lance wasn't designed with conventional magical combat in mind.
Under the direction of Major General William Roland, the Lance was designed to increase the safety of the user by allowing them to engage targets at distances FAR outstripping nearly any other mage in the battlefield. The ability to effectively SNIPE a target with effective magical power before they ever get close enough to .

To achieve the desired capability however, the Lance must first overcome Three fundamental problems.

1 - Inherent Degredation of Attack magic at extreme distances.

2 - Inherent low velocity of magical attacks leading to long time-on-target gaps and missed shots.

3 - Inherent weakness of attack magic at those ranges.

To overcome these problems, hybrid concepts based on conventional weapons were examined. Barring the use of physical materials as projectiles, energy based systems were reviewed. After some testing, it was decided that the best concept was a variant on the classic ion partical canon system. However, to ensure compliance with TSAB law, conventional ion plasma throwing was reversed. Making the system a loose electron gun.
Air is taken into the intake manifolds along the sides of the barrel just ahead of the cartridge loader.
Using a system similar to an Ion pump, magic is used to strip the air of its electrons and to store it in a magical packet in the shot chamber. The resulting magically contained electron package contains a sizable amount of electrical energy potential. Since electrons have next to no mass, and register almost no physical use of space, the electron packet is actually quite small, and almost infinitely light, no bigger than the eraser end of a pencile weighing less then a hair, which makes it easy for the magic containment on it to hold over quite a considerable distance.

To get over the problems of projecting this magical shot over long distances at high velocities, the byproduct ionized air is rapidly heated as it is separated into the primer chamber, becoming a dense high energy plasma.
Upon firing, the Plasma is released, instantly expanding with more force than chemical mass explosive powders used in conventional weapons, propelling the infinitely light, super dense electron packet from the barrel.

The resulting plasma shockwave produces considerable physical recoil, and is quite dangerous to individuals at close range if they are near the muzzel. Potentially suffering burns and blast injuries if physically caught in the shockwave.

Once fired, the shot packet travels around two-thousand meters per second, covering its maximum effective range in just ten. Once it strikes the target or a barrier, or even an AMF, the magical containment package is broken, releasing the dense electron core in a flash similar to a mid level lightning spell, yet delivered to an impact area the size of a pinky. The extreme heat release from the electron discharge melts solid materials, the electrical burst damages unshielded electronics, and the side-effect, contactlvaporization, creates a small explosive shock with potential chained side effected ranging from material to material. Against barriers, while only average in power, the highly concentrated impact point overwhelms the immediate spot, increasing the potential to rupture the barrier and cause it to shatter.
Against an unprotected or non-magical person (which the Lance should never have to, and morally never intend to be applied) such side effects would most certainly be fatal.

Due to the light nature and high negetive electric charge of the shot, some care has to be taken in aiming. Unlike pure magical beams, the Lance is subject to disruptive effects, such as minor deviations at range from gravitational, thermal, and magnetic interference, as well as potential deviations at range from strong winds.
Targetting is provided by a SmartScope linked to whatever Device AI the user has, which does rapid calculations and corrections based on wind currents, thermal interference, magnetic and gravitational interference, planetary surface curvature, and even micromanagement of physical tremble of the shooter before adjusting the target's marker point.

Thanks to the heavy focus on electron packet delivery, the Lance Rifle's been officially classified as a LIGHTNING Element weapon by TSAB Department of Device Management.

Another interesting feature, should the mage will it, the magic containment packet can be made to dissipate at any range, resulting in a small explosion capable of startling, sometimes injuring opponents.

They were already engaged. Perhaps the magical saturation from the artifact kept them from dropping out.

I would think a shot velocity on par with a RAILGUN (Actually, the test railgun the navy uses fires a Mach Seven round... Actually faster than what I have for the Lance.) would qualify as an SSS (Phenominal) rank velocity.

As for range. 20 km it stays. If someone can hold ten km spherical barriers up for minutes on end, keeping a micro packet intact for ten seconds shouldn't be a problem.

Remember with projectiles, range is velocity multiplied by time period.

That being said, this is THE Maximum Effective Range. (Anything higher and the shot pretty much just comes apart.)

Most, to nearly all shots won't be used to maximum range. Most engagements will occure at 300 to 5000 meters. And you will of course respond with 'Then why not just make it 5 km?' And the answer to that question is: That is not how you build a weapon.

To build a weapon, you look at the job. Then you look at what it takes to fullfill the job. And then you build a weapon that fullfills that jop several times over.
This ensures that every single time, the weapon fulfills its job, instead of an iffy, 'it might make it out there this time'. That's gross negligence.

But you needn't worry. At that range, with a ten second travel time, target selection is pretty much limited to stationary or predictable motion targets.

Nice codex. But I'll be honest here. I personally do not like the Cleric-Knights much, since they are too good to be true. As with their History alone, you mention they are only ones suited for battling all these alien enemies, and stuff. I dont mind them being powerful (as they surely are), but making them the only ones is just too much. They seem way too perfect.

Haha, I guess what I dont like is "flawless" stuff.

Also, I wonder why the High Council will want to make use of Cleric Knights, since CKs are on the good side of the alignment spectrum. The High Council, as seen in StrikerS, is extremely corrupted. Instead of the CKs, I can see it using Scaglietti's Numbers or even a criminal organization. The Church using the Cleric Knights makes a lot of sense to me, but the High Council as well? The HC didnt even care for RF6, even though RF6 was practically created to protect it from any threat. Of course, the brains didnt think Scaglietti would betray them, but still. Maybe the High Council "does not mind" the existence of the Cleric Knights, and thus it doesnt interfere with their operations (since what the CKs are doing does benefit the HC anyways). The ones who actually care for anything are Carim and the Church, as we have seen in canon (they were the ones concerned with Midchilda's safety and everything). You probably dont need the Cleric Knights to be involved with the High Council at all.

To further my point, imagine that Kha takes orders from the High Council. The orders would be not to interfere with Scaglietti at all, without a reason given. I wonder if Kha and the Cleric Knights would listen to that? Hell, what would the Naaru say about this as well? I can actually see the Naaru telling Kha to get rid of the High Council, as its corruption is beyond salvation.

Just a thought.

As for the rest, let's just say yes the Naaru objected, but they prefer to take the role of observers, and that all this is part of a grand plan that Kha, Sumire and VEDA put together which would bring about the best result without widespread chaos.

I can say that premature direct intervention on the High Council is not appropiate. And there will be twists and surprises that even VEDA never saw.

But more will be revealed in Rebuilt.

Any major objections though? I'm still open to adjustments.
