Bleh, I see no reason to play Whack-a-coma, I just find porting Ki in Nanoha to be completely useless. Belkan mages virtually are Ki users already, and adding Ki to a show centered around magic doesn't atract me at all, so I'll just handwave it as a MSN crossover gone haywire and let it pass, no reasons for hissy fits if other authors see the merrits where I don't.

Never thought of it that way.
/still ponder how to adapt berserk rage, as shown in D&D or Diablo 2, in Nanoverse. Last edited by Sheba; 2008-07-02 at 19:09. |

It's a style that focusses on physical reinforcment, and requires physical training. Its users are pretty much martial artists...
Heck, what am I saying, Belkan knights are the ki-users of Nanoha. Adrenaline driven berserker rages are here already, Vita in A's and Subaru in StrikerS come to mind. Especially Subaru. |

I think I'll go the Warp Spasm or historical berserker route, maybe a bit shamanic. Remember San in her first appearance in Mononoke Hime? We could only see her mask and hood, and it was very animal-like. When the frontier between the man and animal is blurred, when the berserker can't even talk but just howl and growl like a raging wolf or bear, that's something I found more impressive.

Since Belkan users are essentially Ki users, and since they're all one in the same, just make them Belkan. Besides, if you're having people throwing around fireballs just from shounen power, Comar, then it's no longer quite Nanoverse.
Keep it in Comacanon if you want, but note that I feel the idea is rather silly and pointless since we already have the equivalents in Belkan users. Also ki doesn't always mean DBZ, it just refers to that internal magical energy force that powers your magic spells and assists your martial arts. And on a slightly humorous tangent, the malay equivalent term for ki, tenaga batin, also is used to refer to the kind of power that's charged up by popping Viagra.

But think of it closely. Under the protection of AMF, the Gadgets take less damage, even nullify it completely doesn't it? And so, it works in one way in WoW, and became even more h4xx in Nanoha. Quote:
Maybe you intend this for a different culture? After all, there has been cases of different cultures arriving at the same conclusion when attempting to solve the same problem. *whacks Comar because he asked for it*

The point of putting in ki in the first place is partially to try to lay the grounds for Shinmei-ryu and Kankahō. It's not DBZ I'm aiming for so much as Negima, and I really like the idea of having Asuna somehow unlock Kankahō at some point in the future, which necessitates having both ki and mana in order for the combo to work. It's also supposed to be Asuna's "magic system".
After I put a lot of thought into this, I came to the conclusion that the easiest route to take to get Asuna where I want her to be would be to kill Asuna's linker core (or make it "latent" as Kha would put it) as the trade-off for her abilities as a complete magic canceler to keep her from being overly haxxed. This is a believable (at least I think so) way to accomplish that and keep her skill set relatively close to what she had in Negima, just ramped up somewhat to match your typical hero-class Belkan knight. Here's a thought that just occurred to me that might make the creation of ki completely unnecessary if it's used right;
What if I made Asuna into a prototype of Vivio? That is, an attempt to piece together the genetic data that spawned the Saint's Armor, created by the same scientists who created Vivio? Asuna would be a predecessor of Vivio by several years, the last and most successful attempt at recreating the Saint's Armor prior to the scientists receiving the genetic data on the Shroud of the Saint King from Jail. Her version of the Saint's Armor wouldn't be as complete as Vivio's is, so instead of providing total protection against both magical and physical damage, Asuna's only nullifies magic damage. She would be rescued, of course, by Nagi Springfield and the Ala Alba, a group of mages working for the Saint Church investigating rumors connected to vandalisms and robberies of holy sites, or something of that nature. She would then be turned over to the Church for safekeeping and grow up to become a Knight of the Church. Also, take notice: Asuna and Vivio both have heterochromia. But where their left eyes are different colors (blue for Asuna, red for Vivio), both of them have green right eyes. Coincidence? Or perhaps a quirk caused by having similar genetic data?

I'd prefer that Asuna is someone else than Vivio's clone. As it is, canon is oversimplifying most cloning processes already, and seeing yet another clone from the same genetic procedure that predates the current one is not going down well with me. Plus, it's inherently impossible to just do a random alignment of genetic codes and hope that it miraculously coincide with the result intended. Without prior originals as a base, geneticists definitely would not waste time and resources finding the right combination for the said skill. The human genome has three billion bases, and if we even consider that a working sequence takes about a thousand basepairs, the probability of finding the correct combination is close to zilch. That, and the freaking huge permutations involved, you do the math yourself. |

Well, "Prototype" is usually a plot excuse for Mary Sue-ing up a character. After all, Sol Badguy was the prototype of all Gears and was accused of being a Mary Sue (not to mention that Daisuke has made it clear that sol is partially based on himself). And don't get me started on Gundam prototypes that are ALL assumed to be better than their production models. IRL, a prototype will be more flawed than production models.
