To me, Sakura Quest would fit more in the slice of life category rather than drama.

I'd agree with that.

AnimeSuki members are invited to nominate candidates in a variety of categories. (The categories have been debated for years so let's take them as a given.) The highest scoring nominees then get voted on in the final round to determine winners.

Here is the nomination thread for last year:

It's finally over and it was one hell of a ride. The ending was my favorite kind. A tearful parting and a new beginning.

Finished this today.

It was a great show overall. Only problem I had was the story as it occasionally felt sluggish but it was still overall an intelligent series that capitalized on everything it accomplished. 25 episodes was the perfect amount that got me invested into the anime as a whole.

Also thought that many of the characters' social issues can be relatable in real life.

The finale was an perfect ending that revisited all the ideas of the show again to celebrate this anime. I really hope PA Works can make more stuff like this in the future. 8/10.

Very nicely done ending with good closure for all characters. Was a bit unsure during the first half of the first cour what to make of it since it was a tad sluggish and rough at times. But the second cour was quite good and managed to touch upon the problems of an aging society in the countryside quite intelligently.

Now that was a really really good ending. Just very well thought out, and with the main characters moving on to the next stage in their lives having learned and changed based on their year long experience of trying to turn round the town.
Sure, in the early days they muddled things up and made lots of mistakes, but they all grew from the experiences they had.
The show left you with a very positive feeling overall.

Definitely a favourite of the last two seasons.

That was a well done ending. The characters bid farewell to one another and then go on to start a new chapter in their life. The path they all took was also consistent with how their character was developing.

The show was slow in the beginning and I did see it struggling to get out from under Shirobako's shadow in some places, but in the end it managed to come into its own in the second half.

I'm going to break the pattern and give Sakura Quest a perfect ten because I relate with it at a personal level. The destination ended up being a stepping stone, and was a very fulfilling one to watch. It's a fantastic showing of social challenges facing rural Japan, packaging it into a very instructive and entertaining combination that made the anime one worth looking forwards to each week.

I really liked the characters in this show, and that's about it really. We got some good episodes when the story focused on their development, but nothing that was really memorable to me. The show attempted to explore some interesting subjects, but they didn't dig deep enough. It felt like the writers were afraid to take risks. As for the ending, I got some strong Persona 4 vibes. After spending a year in an unknown town and making lots of friends, the protagonist leaves on a train while his friends wave him goodbye.

7/10. Good effort, but could have used stronger writing.

"Well, my job here's done!" ... slowly walks away

It's been bothering me, where is the mayor of this town?

Anyway. It's been an enjoyable ride. To watch these five girls grow and see them work hard in an in-show span of one year is quite delightful. Soul sisters for life.
I like how it's time to move on and face up the next challenge each decided to take. I bet if Ririko decided to travel here first stop would be Yoshi's new island.
As stated by Kanon above, the ending feels like Bro'tagonist parting at Persona 4, which I think is fine. Every countryboy would feel the same when finally leave home and head on to new life.
The show in not particularly special, just rural life nostalgia, but the cast of characters surely grow on you and it's quite a fun watch.
I will surely miss these girls.

I've been wondering about the mayor too. It seemed like Kadota was in charge of everything when he was just the president of the tourism board.

I can't believe just how much is packed onto the soundtrack. All of the BGM pieces are also cleverly named after flowers.
