Episodes 10-15 have been released by msubs and available on animesuki.

They are currently subbing 16 and 17, hopefully out next few weeks.

Just watched 18 eps of this...it's not bad. It has a very 80's feel with the USSR still in existence and a large presence in space, and of course the whole mech thing. Too bad the subs only go until episode 22...

You're crazy. Layzner, if anything, is of the better mecha series of its time. Certainly much better than any of the toy commercial giants of Sunrise's back then.

In fact, Layzner (and VOTOMS as well) has Okawara's best work when it comes to "reals", has pretty good animation and shading/detail for a TV series, and the music feels old but not jarringly old (like aforementioned toy commercial giant), and don't get me started with that sexy, addictive OP.

Really, if anything, Layzner is one of the most underrated mecha series out there.

As for anyone interested in this series, /m/subs has been consistent with it's work and released episode 30 recently, and they've been saying lately they've been stepping up with the translation. So get ready, because soon we'll have both the full series AND the whole OVA subbed together.

"Ray! V-Max!"
<READY>

... I only finished the first story arc. Could never get a hold of anything past the Gradosian invasion, but I know I'm missing tons...

- Well, yes that's true. Back when production quality was utter crap, you had to have either a good storyline or concept to keep people interested.

Be glad you're only criticizing Layzner. If you were criticizing Metal Armor Dragonar, I'd eat you alive.

I must say, Layzner has this weird vibe of itself. Not franchise material, but enough to stand above the mass.

The same pretty much applies to all Ryosuke series. They're all cream of the crop, and I'm glad they aren't milked to death.

So in a way, that Layzner only got an OVA besides the series is a blessing.

The only series that became franchise-y was VOTOMS, and even then, unlike other franchises, VOTOMS is top gun.

Oh, and it's getting a BD release.

Layzner is one of the more memorable 80s mechas I've watched. The story was interesting, although the second half of the series left something to be desired, but the OVAs did a good job in bringing us a proper finale. I'm happy I watched it, last but not least because of the soundtrack which I liked very much. It fits the atmosphere perfectly.
