It's stats. Level is used in damage calculations in FF5, which is why halving the level (IIRC, it didn't affect any other stats) actually mattered there.

Honestly, that wasn't even Shadow Naoto's most annoying attack for me. Though with the way the anime portrayed it, I'm really curious as to how they're gonna [try to] fix Yosuke.

Salvation from what I've seen doesn't exist in P4, only Messiah in P3 has it.

Teddie starts with Energy Shower, so he could possibly do it. But I have this feeling that the anime's not going to go that route. After all, they haven't been all that specific about what moves are being used, only the elements involved.

Heck, I'm not thinking of any uses of healing in the anime at all! Am I wrong? I can't check for a while...

Regarding Salvation, Sandalphon (Moon ultimate) from P3 also has it. It's not dirt common, but it's not too hard to acquire in either game. P4 is much easier since a party member (Yukiko) learns it.

Don't think I levelled Yukiko high enough to see her use it.

It's the second-to-last technique her Persona learns at level 74. (Last one is Fire Amp at 76, for the record.) So it's understandable that you didn't know if you stopped using her after a certain point.

To be honest though, I don't think I've been in many situations where the SP cost of using it was actually worth it. At least to me, Mediarahan seems to be a more efficient technique. I tend to use Teddie's Amrita for dealing with status inflictions.

(For the record, my preferred party I use in all my play-throughs is Yu, Yukiko, Teddie and Naoto. So this is how I know. )

Do what I do: Have a friend shove the entire game walkthrough in your face.

Don't worry, we'll wait for you.

(100 hours or so later)

Now, go to giantbomb.com and navigate their labyrinthine web site to find the Persona 4 Endurance Run. Watch them... we'll wait for you.

(another 100 hours later)

Are you still alive? Then load that saved game you finished and play again! With all the stats carrying over from the first game, you can actually use all those conversation options that they kept locking you out of because you didn't have enough Courage...

Heh, I thought I was the only person who was watching that thing, although watching it really makes me want to play the game now and I can make comparisons of the "the game/anime did this part better" now. I'm kinda glad they haven't kept all the SL in the anime, or at least spent as much time on a lot of them, but it has been interesting in the Endurance Run to see how it really fleshes out the Investigation Team.

but they did use the game's skill name in rise shadow ep though

for people who don't know, in SMT and Persona Series: agi=fire, bufu=ice, garu=wind, zio=electricity. man, those spell name cofuse the hell out of me the fisrt time i played Persona 3, funniest thing is i didn't know media is the multi target verson of dia (healing spell) for the first 3 hour of the game, i thought it have something to do with the "media"

Well, yes, but they're talking about elements rather than skills. Agi may also be the name of the basic fire spell in SMT/Persona, but it's also how we tend to refer to the elements themselves too. So... that's probably as 'specific' the anime is going to be regarding skill names. And that's probably for the best here, since...

You weren't the only one.

I'm very interested in the etymology. How did they come up with the system? (Base, MaBase, BaseLa, MaBaseLa, etc)

...but that's swiftly leaving the topic at hand, since my point of how the Persona 4 Anime is non-specific to skill names stands, it's irrelevant here. Send me a PM if you want to continue that thread of conversation.

The spell names come from a variety of sources. For example the basic elemental spell names are derived from Sanskrit, as well as the Ma- prefix (which was Maha- in the original Japanese aka Mahabufu was translated as Mabufu); Hama is a Shinto concept, and Dia is from Greek, etc. I believe that the recurring spells and their suffixes/prefixes are mostly from Sanskrit, with a few Greek and Latin ones thrown in.

Personally, I was surprised they used the actual spell names with Shadow Rise's scan. I was expecting them to use the icons for the elements in the game if they did a first-person view of the scan to make it easier for the anime audience.
