Yes, they do have some co-operation, technically Sainan is working UNDER I.S.A., though never said out loud since unlike I.S.A. Sainan is private owned and funded by multiple corporations from various country. Their uniform also bullet proof. XD

Yes, of course. But it was better than people in standard engineering school. Since Sainan taught both I.S. tech and conventional tech, and how to mix them into a brand new functional tech with the properties of both. Note that I.S.A. graduate is focused at I.S. development thus has difficulties of grasping the word 'conventional'. (or rather, they simply too prideful about that)

Note that some I.S.A. graduate that embrace Hybrid Engineering field usually ended up being successful anyway.

@ Senpai - This might cause problems later on in Shadow: If Tatenashi's mother is the one that's Japanese, that means she's the family head and the organization has her last name. Since Tatenashi has the name Sarashiki (Japanese name), it means that Sarashiki Papa would have to get the last name of his wife.

Side note - Does this show later in the story? Like say some ISA students acting arrogant and belittling the Sainan students due to their supposed "Assisstant" Role.

I don't see that as a problem, really. We knew Sarashiki family is matriarchal and thus that would happen regardless of whether the common tendency of using father's family name or not.

Yes, of course, some will be shown (female acting bitch in I.S. is mandatory XD), still most of them use this opportunity to get a boyfriend anyway.

Bear in mind I took a liberty against canon that there's no ugly student in Sainan (at worst, average, with 40% being total bishounen & Bishoujo), except for Principal. And yes, this is lampshaded.

EDIT: Also, the Male-Female Ratio is about 6-4 in there.

Side note - Didn't you already justify the bishonen/bihoujo thing by having make up accessible to people that can make them prettier? I'm also using this i Shadow as an in-universe explanation as to why everyone looks like a fashion model. Of course, this also amps Chifuyu's rep since she looks like that WITHOUT any make up

Side note 2 - Just realized a new problem with the justification: If anyone can get make up that can make them more appealing, then what's gonna happen to things like modelling? If everyone has a pretty face, wouldn't the industry die due to the fact that everyone is attractive so no one would pay to watch attractive people on T.V?

Yes, and this advancement in medical science, especially in this case: super-effective cosmetic product, couldn't be born without hybrid technology.

Still, the existence of impossibly pretty boy like Rito and Ren is still strange, especially that Ren just need light makeup to look as pretty as his Idol twin sister, while Rito's face turn androgynous that attract BOTH gender

That leaves people that has NATURALLY attractive appearance somewhat striking when using make-up, just like what you said about Chifuyu. Also, Run and Lala in my case.

This means "Generic Attractiveness" and "The Beautiful People" tropes being played with. Also, just like in real life, even cosmetic has grades.

Also note that anything can't be fixed by make up (such as odd facial structure) will stay noticeable anyway.

What does a Matriarchal system actually mean, anyway? Do females get instant support or something?

Side note - Why? Can't you look like a bishonen with enough applications of the cosmetics? Ichika's a weird case in Shadow only because he's almost exactly similar in appearance to Chifuyu (Extremely odd). Kyuukai looks like older than his age so he doesn't take it. Irish gets asked mocking questions if he puts on make up every day to keep his appearance, but a close inspection reveals he has none either which causes even more questions.

Side note 2 - So how limited is the cosmetic we're talking about here?

Side note 3 - Is this make up distributed to the world at large or simply Japan? This seems like it would screw over the make up business and put every other cosmetics business on the ground.

If you have a face that shaped like a monkey, you can put any makeup and it just make your skin prettier, but you still have the face of a monkey.

If you have average face, make up can help made you look better.

Initially it DID screw the market for a while, but not much. The reason? Just like what Alaska treaty said: I.S. related technology researched outside I.S.A. must be shared to the rest of the world.

Tenjouin corporation produced the first such make up, and the price is quite high for a while, but as other corporation emulated it, the price become cheaper and cheaper, and better make up replacing the one came earlier.

It goes to everything else, including military hardware.

Of course Tenjouin used a loophole that while they can share the technology, it doesn't mean they have to give the production machine for free. The research cost and effort worth the profit.

What exactly are the cosmetics composed of? It cant just be lipstick and eyeliner, those would never make you look too good without significant asspulling.

Some are visible, some aren't, lip gloss and foundation, if applied correctly is not visible.

Yes, uncanny valley. However some of them just plain super-attractive in that way. Lala was noted as Inhumanly beautiful and Run is said to be super cute. Rito noted this as weird, even if he admit they look good that way.

No need for Make up if you can't use it properly, this is why celebrity still need their "Makeover specialist"

In this case, not only makeup, but skin, hair, nail treatment are improved as well. Remember that some people didn't use make up but still use treatment product, and here, they work faster and more reliable.
