Hakyū Hōshin Engi (Soul Hunter) [remake] Anticipation

Quote:
This year's combined 36th and 37th issues of Shueisha's Young Jump magazine is revealing on Thursday that Ryu Fujisaki's Hoshin Engi manga is getting a new television anime adaptation. The wording on the announcement suggests the new anime will be a remake instead of a sequel. The Young Jump issue is also revealing a teaser visual for the anime.

I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I knew if I waited long enough on this reboot trend eventually the anime gods would give me something I actually wanted to see! Houshin Engi was one of my favorite manga as a young teen. I read all 23 volumes and was so excited to see the anime, only to be disappointed when I watched it because it was so far off what the manga was.

This time it shouldn't be hard to properly adapt the whole thing inside of 52 episodes if they wanted.

I remember that in January 2009, Shomei TV announced their intentions to remake the anime series if they received 10,000 signatures.the 10,000 signatures were reached, but no new info after that. Really glad it finally got a remake, hopefully this time it will be a faithful adaptation of the manga

Well then! This is unexpected, but interesting. Haven't read the manga, but I do know the anime, which I did watch differs greatly from the source (and isn't that great by itself either), so here's hoping for a better experience this time.

the manga also differs a lot from the original novel, but it's really good, IMO and Taikobou is an awesome protagonist

I don't even pretend to be surprised anymore. One more ghost from the past and I'll start writing a reboot wishlist. If they can't come up with anything new and original they should at least reboot things that I'm interested in... (RUROUNI KENSHIN JINCHUU ARC, DAMN IT.)

I guess this is Fujisaki's consolation prize for the new LoGH anime apparently not being based on his manga? (OK, probably not.) Or maybe it's Jump throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it all sticks to some degree, while they're trying to find new series that continue to carry the magazine...

Now that's a blast from the past. God, how long has it been since I last read the manga of this series, let alone last seen the old anime?

Looking forward to it, wont say no to a series I liked plenty enough years back.

I feel that it is part of how the series hit the nostalgia point where they could make a remake, and that interest had always been there (going by what iko_uwais mentioned re:the petition from 8 year back) but it took time for the means and funding to get it going.

Shueisha, on their part, had been reviving and bringing back a lot of their older properties for many years now, regardless of how Jump does (I mean, it's still the no.1 shonen magazine in the market, and One Piece is still the no.1 best selling title in the country, along with a fresh(er) roster of titles now, so it is doing alright. It would be a different topic had this been Hoshin Engi re-serialization I think).

I'm pretty sure One Piece alone is enough to keep Jump running, not to mention that it's anime adaptation continues to feed a lot of animators and a half of Japan's voice actors
But even beyond OP, I don't think Jump is having any problems right now: Haikyuu, Shokugeki no Soma and Boku no Hero Academia are still going strong, Black Clover is becoming quite popular and Yakusoku no Neverland has the potential to become one of Jump's greatest works (though I can't really see it going for long).

And don't forget that when Togashi is healthy enough to write enough chapters, H x H is basically second only to OP in terms of volume sales. Jump is having no problems at all at the moment - they're still the biggest power player in the manga business, easily.

I confess I find it a bit baffling that there's been no RK reboot. The franchise is still phenomenally popular and riddled with cross-marketing opportunities. And the series still hasn't gotten a full adaptation - it just makes no sense, financially or otherwise.

If by "YYH" you mean Yu Yu Hakusho, I remembered it being a false alarm coz the celebration for the 25th Anniversary turned out to be for YYH Cafe, or is there another new development I'm not aware of?

Personally, I don't want a remake of YYH. That's a near-perfect shonen TV series that's done beautifully and the entire story has finished too. Better allocate those resources for other great mangas that haven't been adapted yet (yes, Rurouni Kenshin Jinchu arc is one of them).

IS THIS A DREAM? HAS GOD HEARD MY PRAYER?!

OMG so fvckin hype! I love the series itself so much and has always believed it will have a remake one day because it DESERVES to have one!
It's from this series that I come to like Ryu Fujisaki and his writing style.

And Sodakki is the greatest heroine Jump ever has
Can't wait to see her on the screen being cruel and sexy at the same time.

I believe I heard about this as well and was pretty upset because they keep quiet about it. But now that 10,000 signatures r finally showing good results.

Seriously. The Kanetsugu & Keiji series was pretty fun.

Kensho ono as taikobou, sounds interesting. Taikobou seems to be different than the usual type of characters he voiced, looking forward to it. Here's hoping he can do Taikobou's signature laughter some justice

Well, he did play Raichi... people were pretty mixed on that particular casting choice, but I thought he pulled it off nicely.

I've never read the manga, but I do remember checking a few episodes of the original anime out years ago. I was fourteen and obsessed with Naruto, and Rock Lee was one of my favourite characters.

(In case anyone missed the reference- Lee's voice actor played Sibuxiang.)

I remember watching Hoshin Engi anime yet it didn't make much impression to me. So let's hope this second roll will be better. Unfortunately, I've never actually followed the manga. I've only read random tankobon volumes of it to kill some time whenever my friends brought it back in middle & high school.

Looking at the art-style, maybe David Production will be interested? And instead of re-doing YYH, why not adapting Flame or Recca that's heavily inspired by it? The last (and most important) arc of FoR haven't been adapted into anime yet and the older anime adaptation itself took some liberties with the manga (but not bad in and of itself). Just redo it like HxH 2011. If Ushio to Tora's complete anime adaptation can happen recently, FoR should be able too.

I've actually been planning to read the manga eventually, but I'd also be happy with a faithful anime adaption. Here's to hoping that we get a better adaption this time around.

Now if only we got announcements for Rurouni Kenshin and Shaman King remakes, then I'd be freaking ecstatic.
