Although rereading volume 1 now, I would say Enju’s about even with Kisara if only because of how much the author foreshadows the two ending up together.

Now then. The epilogue part 1.

Separated it into two parts because it was getting too long.

Well this was a pain in the ass to summarize.

More so than any other section.

Because the vital details here are extremely hard to decipher.

I’ll be honest, take a lot of things (specifically Rentaro’s conversation with Seitenshi) here with a grain of salt.

Thankfully after this it’s either the short story or volume 2 both of which are a lot easier to understand then this.

Spoiler for volume 1 epilogue part 1:

A few days after the stage 5 gastrea incident Rentaro’s is dressed in a suit (which he’s unused to) and is in a luxuries building.

After defeating the level 5 gastrea in order to celebrate his success he’s to attend a ceremony. Kisara threw him a suit yesterday and told him to wipe his grumpy looking face off.

After getting in the building and on the way to the hall where the ceremony is going to take place he’s intercepted by Kisara (whose dressed in a……… dress) in front of the main entrance.

She complains about how slow he is and also told him not embarrass her.

Rentaro moans to her that she didn’t mention that this ceremony is this important causing Kisara to retort that she told him yesterday.

Rentaro snarked that she only impatiently threw him the suit and hurried away.

Kisara brushes him off and changes the subject, telling Rentaro that his ties crooked, and she will fix it.

This close contact excites Rentaro who comments to himself how beautiful Kisara is. To make it worse (or better) because of the angle Rentaro has a clear view of her chest.

Rentaro being the gentleman (read: pervert in denial) he is tries to tell her but Kisara doesn’t listen and comments on how tough it is to straighten a tie.

She then tries to tighten it chocking Rentaro in the process. She gives up and tells Rentaro:

“It’s no good. That kind of work isn’t suited for me. Satomi-san, your current face looks similar to the Tarot card, “the hanged man”. In particular that depressing face. Tie your own tie”.

After saying that she finally notices how awkward her own words are especially considering how Rentaro just passed a hard fight which nearly killed him and covered her mouth. She then moved her eyes towards Rentaro’s right wrist. She questioned if his new hand is still in development.

Rentaro responds that it’s almost finished.

She’s then reminded of Sumire’s words, when she visited her in which Sumire said, “Using a rocket punch to beat a stage 5 gastrea. He watched too much super robot shows didn’t he? Originally I thought he’s only insensitive. But now I realize that he’s a real idiot. A real insensitive idiot. Ahahaha So funny hahahaha.

“Why is it that even after I saved Tokyo, I’m still mocked by her”, Rentaro complained.

“How I’m I suppose to know”.

After glancing at her watch and realizing time is almost up Kisara instructed Rentaro, that basically this ceremony is taking Seitenshi’s precious time so everyone wants to get it finished as soon as possible. Just respond yes or no when questioned and it’ll be fine.

Rentaro confirmed that he understood Kisara’s instructions, he proceeded to go in.

As he went in he turned to look at Kisara who shot him a warm smile and said:

“This time, from the beginning to the end Satomi-san did an amazing work. Really incredible. From now on you also have to continue working hard. My noble knight.”

After hearing that Rentaro felt his own heart beginning to beat and just as he’s about to respond the door was shut.

Rentaro turned his head to look at the front. The room had a red carpet at the center with Seitenshi sitting at the front. There’s people filled in at all sides.

Rentaro is welcomed by Seitenshi and Rentaro finally had a chance to meet her face to face. He notes to himself that she’s a real beauty on TV but face to face like this highlights her beauty by a thousand fold. He also revealed that Seitenshi is actually from a noble family (which explains why she’s able to take leadership at such a young age) which is renowned for their beauty but Seitenshi is likely the best even among her family.

Seitenshi questions Rentaro on his injuries and he tells her he’s fine. She then questions Rentaro on how he feels on becoming the hero of Tokyo.

The narrative reveals that the public isn’t told about this incident besides the fact that a civil security guard shot it with a long range weapon.

Rentaro responds, “The people around me behave a little weird. Just looking at it makes me feel embarrassed”.

Seitenshi tells Rentaro that she thought that would be the case. She then recalls how chilling the incident is.

Rentaro thinks back to the incident. The stage 5 gastrea should’ve died immediately after being shot in the brain by a piece of varium going at 5% light speed but it somehow managed to muster the energy to turn to face Rentaro’s direction (freaking Rentaro out in the process) and then fall causing a mini tsunami.

Seitenshi confirmed Rentaro’s loyalty and then promoted Rentaro and Enju to IP rank 1000 by agreement with the IISO due to his achievements. Seitenshi further mischievously commented that an IP increase that big can make it to the Guinness world records.

She then asked Rentaro if he had something to say.

Logically speaking it would be best to answer “no” and get this finished with as soon as possible, in accordance with his agreement with Kisara.

But Rentaro had no intention of doing so in the first place.

He revealed that upon opening the box containing the supposed treasure, what he discovered was a broken down tricycle instead. Rentaro questioned why would something like this bring forth the gastrea and furthermore questioned how the gastrea’s existence came about in the first place.

What he revealed caused uproar in the hallway. Ignoring the commotion Seitenshi in a small voice that only Rentaro can hear told him:

“The Seven Star Heritage originally was hidden outside of Tokyo. Its purpose is to research a certain place. This time it’s been stolen. We could not predict what would happen if it got destroyed. The stage 5 gastrea came to retrieve. I can only tell you this much.”

(SN: This part is actually highly confusing for me. Not only is it hard to understand due to Seitenshi’s tendency to use advanced vocabulary but it raises more questions. Notice how Seitenshi didn’t actually answer Rentaro’s question? I can only infer that the Seven Star Heritage isn’t inside the box the whole time (or a least during the time Kagetone took it out of Tokyo) and Rentaro has been duped. Take note that I may be wrong so someone that understands this part better can correct me.)

Rentaro is disappointed at only this much revealed.

Noticing this, Seitenshi tells him that if he wishes to understand the truth he should reach the top ten IP rankings. That way he gets the highest level of clearance level 12 (IP ranking 1000 only has level 3 clearance). Once he gets there he’ll understand the truth about his existence. His purpose in the world as well as the truth about his parents (I need the romaji for his parents’ names).

After hearing about his parents Rentaro got irritated at Seitenshi and tried to force her to tell more.

However Seitenshi warned him that he’s being very disrespectful causing Rentaro to realize that everyone was coldly looking at him for treating Seitenshi so rudely.

Realizing that if he demands anymore he might jeopardize everything Rentaro left quickly.

He hurried towards the Tendo residence. Over there he’s greeted by a maid who recognizes him but he ignores her.

He went to the room he wanted to go to, used his gun to blow the doors hinges through.

He quickly looked inside for the file he wanted.

Suddenly his phone vibrated and an unknown number is displayed.

He answered it and a voice that sent shivers down Rentaro’s spine answered:

“Good to see you, Rentaro-san”.

It’s Kagetone.

Rentaro let out a long sign.

“So you didn’t die, Kagetone Hiruko”.

Rentaro recalled that after the fight, Kohina went to rescue Kagetone.

At that time Rentaro thought that it’s impossible for Kagetone to survive that kick.

“That’s right, it wasn’t easy though. Your attack was very effective. “They” want me to quietly recuperate for a period of time. It’s soooooooooooooooooooo boring.” (Don’t ask me who “they” are. I don’t know. Although it’s safe to assume that it’s an organization that Kagetone belongs to).

“By work do you mean killing people? I would like to suggest you to take this opportunity to redeem yourself”

“Nope. It’s field work. Soon we’ll meet again someplace, somewhere. Today, it’s just to give you a heads up. Next time we meet, I won’t lose.”

“I won’t lose to you either”.

Although in reality Rentaro’s just talking tough. He realized that that time the only reason he came out victorious is because of a preparation and strategy. Can he win again against a prepared Kagetone?

“Oh and another thing, I think I should introduce my client to you”.

Realizing something was off, Rentaro dropped the phone while taking out his pistol and turning around to point it at someone who pointed at Rentaro with a magnum

It’s Kikunojyo whose looking quite furious at Rentaro breaking into his room without permission.

Kikunojyo asks him why he’s here and Rentaro responds that he’s looking for evidence. But since he’s already here it’s easier to question the suspect himself. This time the traitor turned out to be the minister of defense. But Rentaro suspects that Kikunojyo is actually the traitor.

Kikunojyo isn’t surprised and asked Rentaro if Kisara set him to do this. Rentaro reveals that he’s doing it on his own.

Kikunojyo grunted and questioned Rentaro on why Rentaro would suspect him. In response Rentaro asked Kikunojyo if he’s not denying it. Kikunojyo says that even if he denied it Rentaro won’t believe him. Rentaro agreed with him although in his heart he hoped that Kikunojyo would deny it.

After that Rentaro revealed that the minister of defense was found hang in his home.

Kikunojyo doesn’t care, and replied so what.

Rentaro continued his reasoning, as it turned out Rentaro saw the evidence sheet that contained the list of traitors and all of them belonged in Kikunojyo’s faction or had once belonged in his faction. In fact as a kid Rentaro had actually met all of them once.

Kikunojyo congratulated Rentaro’s deduction and told him that he’s actually a smart kid. In hearing that Rentaro remembered him being praised as a child, “Rentaro will surely become a great politician someday”, and got angry enough to nearly pull the trigger. Rentaro angrily rebuked Kikunojyo:

“Every one of those guys was all good people. They all respected you deeply……….. How do you expect me to not believe that you as their boss would not participate in this plot? The ministry of defense also committed suicide to close the trail leading to you. Once he died, everyone that was arrested as a traitor used him as a scapegoat. I can’t control how you feel about this. But……… but to let them do this for your sake, and yet you still sit here putting on airs, don’t you feel ashamed, Kikunojyo Tendo?

However Kikunojyo still denied it saying what reason would he have to do this, after all that’s also supporting Tokyo’s destruction.

Rentaro continued his reasoning. He said that he himself had no idea why anyone would benefit from this but after thinking it through he revealed that it’s because of the new gastrea laws.

This caused Kikunojyo to twitch.

“It’s the new laws that against all odds Seitenshi plans to implant. In order to enhance the social status of the cursed children. However since 10 years ago, when gastrea killed your wife you’ve been a firm opposition to “initiators”. I don’t know what your deal with Kagetone is, nor do I want to. However, you who wanted to utterly destroy the gastrea, and Kagetone who believed in the natural superiority of the gastrea both have one interest, you both hope to rip the law to shreds. Anyways once it becomes known that one of the terrorists who plan to destroy Tokyo, Kohina, is one of the cursed children public opinion for the cursed children will never recover. Of course you don’t plan to destroy Tokyo. You dirty scumbag.”

Without warning a sudden kick knocked Rentaro down, Kikunojyo who got the upper hand furiously dared Rentaro to say it again.

“I’ll say it as many times as necessary. The events played out like this. You sent your men to get the “seven star heritage” a catalyst said to able to call a level 5 gastrea. Your men picked it up and simply needed to give it to Kagetone, and the plan would’ve proceeded smoothly. However on the way your man was attacked by a gastrea and due to over injection of fluids turned into a gastrea himself. But not before he went inside the safety of the [monolith]. He turned into the spider type absorbing the box in the process and proceeded to infect one person. Enju and I eventually took down the gastrea containing the box but ultimately Kagetone retrieved it from us. At this point you leaked news on Kohina being one of the terrorists but thanks to Seitenshi’s timely intervene you failed. Out of opinions you authorized the call of the stage 5 gastrea in order to force the news out. You knew that by doing so you’ll cause Tokyo’s mass extinction”.

“YES”.

Kikunojyo suddenly shouted as if he’s on fire.

“This is to awaken those peace loving bastards. Why can they forget? Why? 10 years ago, the sky fell, the earth cracked, mankind was about to be expelled from this world. Now those hunger insects that possess red eyes casually swagger around in the streets. The same people that possessed the genes of the red eyed demons that lead this world to destruction. And you want to give them human rights? Are you fucking with me?”

Rentaro seized the moment where Kikunojyo had lost his composure and used a leg sweep followed by a hit in the ribs to gain the upper hand.

“You’re right, your wife did die to them. But Kisara-san’s parents died. The doctor also lost her lover. But, they didn’t let their past compromise them and continued to live on. You’re just a vengeful spirit Kikunojyo Tendo. A vengeful spirit that forever drags hatred from ten years ago. You’re supposedly Seitenshi’s assistant yet you plot against her. Do you also hate her?”

“Don’t be silly. I admire her. Out of every one in her family only she deserves the position of ruler. She’s the one queen I wish to serve with all my loyalty”.

“Then why…… did you-”

“Because there are some things I can’t forgive”.

Rentaro pointed his pistol at him and looked in his eyes. He didn’t see any vanity in it. This man….. possessed both outstanding loyalty to Seitenshi and yet unending hatred towards the gastrea, the contradiction which ultimately drove him into insanity.

“Kisara-san certainly also knows the truth”.

“I also think so. But you guys don’t have proof, you can’t do anything to me”.

Rentaro stared into Kikunojyo’s eyes for a long time before moving aside the pistol and turning away.

“What are you planning? If you don’t kill me now, you’ll regret it”.

“I’m already regretting it, because you’re Kisara’s greatest enemy”.

“Then what do you think Rentaro?”

“What”?

Rentaro turned around to see Kikunojyo lift up a face exposing a miserable expression.

“What do you think Rentaro. Didn’t you lose your limbs and eye to them, didn’t you also lose your loved ones to them? Why are you able to forgive them? Don’t you hate them?

“Of course I hate them! Chopping them up into tiny pieces won’t satisfy my hatred. I once thought about using my own hands to kill them all, both gastrea and cursed children!”.

“But why did you-”

“Did you ever talk with them? Even one person is good. They’ll cry, laugh, and throw a tantrum over silly little things. Their full of warmth, human warmth. I Rentaro Satomi believe in them, I believe in Enju Aihara.”

“Rentaro…………. you.”

“You saved my life once, and said, “if you don’t want to die, live Rentaro Satomi”, I think that this sentence is very powerful. Whenever I close my eyes and give in to despair I think back to this sentence and somehow overcame my difficulty……… what happened 10 years ago, I never forgot…….. goodbye foster father”.

Rentaro left the mansion.

Kisara's a human that pushed the limits of her body to the edge.

Also you got it wrong.

She's not stronger then Tina. When they fought she got destroyed (granted Kisara was taken by surprise by still). Tina's arguably the strongest character that's shown thus far.

She might be stronger then Rentaro because Rentaro stated that he had no way to counteract one of her techniques.

But if they actually fought I can see Rentaro winning if he goes in for the killing blow instantly.

Thanks for the summaries Log! Can't get enough! So Rentaro did succeed in retrieving the case, but he didn't get the reward? Or did he burn it all up paying for a new arm? In later novels does his IP rank rise?

As for Rentaro, @Log, earlier when you generously revealed Rentaro's specs you mentioned that he possessed some sort of special ability he inherited from his family? Who said this and could this have anything to do with the fact that he took five doses of Sumire's special gastrea mix, which was not the doctor's prescription, and didn't turn into a gastrea? I know this is all fictional science, but I think we can safely assume that taking 5 doses of a drug would exponentially increase the already high risk of turning into a gastrea into a guarantee.

Also, a gastrea attack during his childhood left him spilling his guts, literally. The gastrea must have made physical contact and I'd think that he would have made contact with its bodily fluids. Yet he didn't turn into a gastrea?

The following are simply speculative:
If the Inheritance wasn't inside the box, then why would Seitenshi try to retrieve it? Even if it wasn't the real thing, it doesn't change the fact that a Stage 5 Gastrea was summoned.

Don’t really know my seiyuu’s well but of the top of my head…..…..

Rentaro- Nakamura Yuuchi mainly because he voiced Oreki from Hyouka and Rentaro is basically Oreki’s long lost brother from another dimension.

Enju- The girl that voiced Index from To Aru is the best one I can think of at the moment.

Kisara- Ayane Sakura the seiyuu of Yozora from Hagani. That slightly tomboyish would fit Kisara well and tsundere voice actor is tsundere voice actor.

I already have an ego though. You guys are just pushing it to new heights.

Regarding volume 4, I don’t really have any control of when I read it.

I’m in the same boat as the rest of you people who can’t read Japanese in waiting for translators to update, albeit in my case the translators started earlier and are faster.

Currently the translator for Black Bullet hasn’t updated in around 5 months. He’s likely waiting for the translator of volume 3 to finish. And volume 3’s translator is going at a slow pace. Around 1 part per 3 weeks. He’s currently almost done with volume 3 chapter 1 (done with part 8 of chapter 1 recently).

So give or take 5 months and I might be able to continue volume 4. That’s if the status quo keeps up of course.

He didn’t get any award besides an IP rank, I would assume is because didn’t ask for one so they didn’t give him one. That or Tendo company did get an award but it all went to supporting Kisara’s schooling (she’s going to an elite private school and she did mention that she would have to quit school due to lack of money if Rentaro didn’t succeed in this mission). Although it doesn’t really matter. At the end of the day Tendo Company’s still going to be piss poor just so the readers can laugh at their expense.

His IP ranking goes from 120000ish->1000->300->210. He’s actually getting pretty close to where he’s supposed to be. I suspect that by the time he breaks the 100 barrier either he or Enju or both will receive a power up.

He possessing some sort of special power that’s inherited from his family is simply speculation at this point. Granted it’s speculation with a lot of foreshadowing. If he’s some random nobody then why would Tendo take him in? Why would Seitenshi be so confident that he would become strong enough to be in the top ten and take so much interest in his development? Why would his parents be placed at the highest confidential stage? Too much suggests that Rentaro’s linage is special.

Current popular speculation from Chinese readers, are between:

Rentaro is actually the missing stage 5 gastrea (or some sort of special gastrea) and that his parents are the original developers for gastrea and he’s one of their makings. The super varium that’s implanted in him actually acts like a seal. This would also explain why Rentaro can take and bounce back from ridiculous injuries and why he fails to turn into a gastrea because he’s already one.

In opposition of that theory Rentaro’s parents are actually the first developers of varium and Rentaro actually was experimented on and gained abilities even before he met Sumire. Speculation on these abilities ranges but the most popular one is that Rentaro has the ability to emit the varium’s electromagnetism which would again explain why he doesn’t turn into gastrea. Like the other speculation Rentaro lost this ability somewhere down the line for some reason or alternatively he still has it but isn’t aware of it or doesn’t know how to put it to use.

Though like all speculation the chances of both of them being wrong are high and they both have arguments that can made against it.

He not falling to Dr. Sumire’s gastrea drug may be foreshadowing for something in the future but I chalk it of more as his god like luck in dangerous situations. For example him launching “Heaven’s ladder” had decimal ranged chances of succeeding yet he succeeded. In a side story he successfully guessed a seven digit password, which if he failed would release deadly poison. Him winning against Tina is because of luck more than anything else.

Him surviving the gastrea, may be because of Sumire doing something or may be because of his linage. Or the more boringly he just didn’t get enough fluids to be fatal. Nothing is really revealed on how he survived that attack yet.

I would assume that Seitenshi likely doesn’t know the inheritance is in the box at that point. Or something like that. The stage 5 gastrea coming to Tokyo is to retrieve the treasure. That much is confirmed.

My personal theory from what I read (that I’m 80% confident on) is that, Kagetone upon getting the treasure activated it to call the stage 5 gastrea and handed back over to Kikunojyo. Because the stage 5 gastrea wants to retrieve the box he would go to Tokyo where the box is at.

He then acted as a distraction to lure everyone’s eyes on him. That way he makes sure that Kikunojyo isn’t being scrutinized and it also fulfills his sick pleasure of killing people, killing two birds with one stone. Not only that but even if he lost, the treasure isn’t actually with him so they can’t deactivate it therefore he wins anyway.

It isn’t really confirmed so don’t take it as gospel.

And finally finishing off volume 1.

Can't say the last part is to hard to do.

After Rentaro left the mansion he went to visit Enju.

Enju boisterously greeted Rentaro in hospital robes causing Rentaro to berate her for being so loud.

Enju ignored his berating and happily informed him that her chest got bigger by a little, however Rentaro after glancing over her figure almost asked her, “I’m sorry, can you please repeat where you got bigger”? Luckily Rentaro isn’t that stupid.

Unaware of Rentaro’s inner musings Enju claimed that it’s almost time for her to wear a bra but Rentaro flatly rejected that and told her it’ll take a least another 5 years.

Enju cheerfully skipped topic and fired question after question on how the ceremony went. Rentaro ignored her many questions and seriously asked her what her gastrea erosion rate is.

She making a “V” sign told him that it’s 24.9% almost no change.

She then went to change cloths and Rentaro went to see Sumire.

After finishing their respective tasks they went to a nearby park and Rentaro informed Enju on how much their IP increased causing Enju to exclaim in joy.

Enju then noticed an ice cream shop and asked if she can buy it. Rentaro with trembling hands, hands her this month’s living expense and instructs her to be careful with it. But Enju cheerfully tells him, that she’ll buy as many ice creams as possible.

Rentaro shouts at her, but Enju had already left and can’t hear him.

Staring at Enju’s back Rentaro unconsciously lets out a small smile.

Still alive. The stomach can still get hunger. Isn’t that a wonderful thing?

Rentaro thinks to himself that although Enju won’t know, in order to keep the peace of Tokyo someone else had made a sacrifice.
He thinks back to after launching the railgun.

Because Enju was mentally and physically exhausted she had fallen asleep to recover strength. Rentaro on the other hand, went out to check on something.

After walking some distance Rentaro glazed at “Heaven’s ladder” and notices how much the tracks deflected. No matter what no object can handle taking the acceleration of something at that speed.

After that, he thinks about things that he ignored before. Gastrea are very sensitive to sound with some being able to hear over multiple kilometers. Yet despite both his fight with Kagetone and the railgun’s launching producing explosive sounds, no gastrea appeared.

After that walking a distance Rentaro noticed the smell of blood and gasped.

Gastrea corpses ranging from stage 1 to stage 4 are littered everywhere.

Among the corpses Rentaro discovered a broken of shotgun, he choked back a sob.

Looking through the corpses, finally he found what he was looking for.

Rentaro shook his head, firmly holding his fists to prevent his voice from trembling to much he asked:

“Why? Why didn’t you escape? Didn’t you say that once you were cornered you would escape?”

Kayo Senju stared blankly back at him.

“Because………. I can’t do that.”

She had lost her left wrist and right foot. Bite marks infected by gastrea are spread everywhere around her body.

However her regeneration rate is staggering. She’s even starting to recover her lost limbs.

But this isn’t a good thing.

“Rentaro-san…………… I”

Rentaro held his heart which is about burst and said to her:

“Your body erosion rate, it’s probably over 50%”.

The cursed children through continued use of medicine surpassed the gastrea virus but in the end it’s just surpassing rather than stopping. Because they carry an inhibitory factor, they won’t turn into a gastrea instantly like ordinary people. But releasing their limits, or getting fluid injection by gastrea will cause their erosion rate to rapidly increase.

Once the body reached 50% one can no longer maintain human form.

Current technology, can’t surpass this effect nor can they cure it.

Rentaro took out his gun and aimed it at Kayo. He understood that he must do this. Kayo can no longer be saved, she must die here.

“Rentaro-san, what happened to Ikumi-san”?

“He’s fine”.

Her eyes dulled so she closed it but she looked relieved.

“I beg you Rentaro-san, please let me die as a human”.

Rentaro’s breathing trembled with every breath. His gun is shaking violently. From such a close distance, yet Rentaro felt that if he shot he’ll miss. This is ridiculous.

Rentaro felt that, that time at the fireplace where the two chatted is priceless. A feeling that make him want to scratch out the affections and love in his heart assaulted him.

Damn it! DAMN IT!

“Rentaro-san, please don’t cry.”

Rentaro gritted his teeth to the point where his teeth felt like it could’ve cracked. However he still let out a fake smile.

“Don’t worry, I won’t cry. This isn’t the first time”.

“You confirmed my existence. I didn’t want you to die so I tried very hard. Although it was difficult. But my life was a good one. My chests filled with gratitude. Thanks Rentaro-san”.

Rentaro dazedly shook his head.

Kayo continued:

“Rentaro doesn’t have any friends’ right?”

“Eh?”

“Such a hopeless person……. In that case I’ll be your friend.”

Rentaro’s sight met Kayo’s sight.

“Yeah, to be honest I feel ashamed at my lack of friends. Thanks.”

The hands stopped trembling. The heart calmed down.

“You’re my precious friend. I’ll never forget you.”

Rentaro aimed his gun at her forehead.

Her pupil started to lose focus.

Her voice started to drop.

“Rentaro-san, I think that next…….there’ll be countless trails awaiting you. If you ever lose direction, get lost in the darkness, please follow the direction of your heart………light…….follow the light……….Rentaro………..please save…………………….this world”.

The bullet killed her instantly.

Thus another initiator died.

Hearing the sound of the helicopter Rentaro turned his head.

Cut back to current time.

Enju is currently happily selecting an ice cream while Rentaro is brooding.

What is human?

Talking, walking on two feet, wearing clothes.

All of these aren’t proof of being human.

Even in terms of genes humans can’t claim to stand out. Their genes are only double that of flies after all.

Then what are “cursed children”?

Dr. Sumire’s interpretation, “They are the messenger between humans and gastrea, in other words an agent of god.”

Seitenshi’s interpretation, “They are the hope of the future”.

Kikunojyo’s interpretation, “They are the monsters that will raze the world to the ground”.

Humans once were invincible, enjoying an everlasting peak on earth. However with the existence of the gastrea that came to an end.

Among the surviving humans, the “cursed children” came into existence.

But due to genetic contamination their existence was trample upon. Given up on birth.

Thrown into the shadows, they can only survive by begging.

Their very existence was treated with indifference caused by a grudge that won’t disappear. Is their existence separate from humans?

Rentaro closed his eyes.

Enju Aihara’s interpretation, “I am human”.

Rentaro believed in Enju.

They are the ones that surpassed the boundaries of humanity, looking upon everything with a new perspective. Their far higher those that because of race, religion, and language, set themselves up to the road of destruction. In a way they can be considered a new type of human.

Kikunojyo who forever clutched his chest, while cursing and hating the world likely was what Rentaro would’ve been if he never met Enju.

Like Kisara who can’t live without Hemodialysis-

Or Enju who can’t live without her medicine-
-The existence known as Rentaro Satomi can’t survive 1 second without Enju’s smile.

They aren’t bugs.

“Rentaro, are you feeling sick”?

Turning around while recovering from his deep thought, Rentaro saw Enju clutching a large amount of ice cream.

“No, no way. Look my rankings increased. I feel incredible. In fact I’m so happy I’m going to jump around”.

In response to Rentaro who was jumping around the nearby bench while posing, Enju looked surprised but let out a small smile.

“Your weird, Rentaro Satomi”.

Suddenly however something fell.

It’s the bracelet from that magical girl anime that Enju bought for him.

Rentaro recalled Enju’s words:

“It’s proof of friendship between the 47 magical girls. When one of them lies to another the bracelets crack. That’s how they’re able to tell when their friends lied to them”.

Rentaro stared at it while trembling

Doctor: Sumire Muroto

Gastrea erosion rate 42.8%.

Percentage until complete collapse 7.2%.

Doctor evaluation: Dangerous domain. Didn’t inform her on the value to avoid her being stimulated. By regulations it’s suggested to change initiators.

The following advice is as a friend, not as a doctor.

Don’t let her fight anymore Rentaro-san.

Just calling them "parents" or "Rentaro's parents" feels awkward because they have given names.

I can't find their Japanese names to insert into romaji translator however.

And I doubt a Chinese translation would be accurate.

And time for Volume 2 prologue.

Some things to note.

I run into naming problems again.

The three new characters in volume 2 prologue unfortunately aren't important enough, to have their Japanese names displayed anywhere where I can found it.

So no Japanese name=no romaji.

So me being lazy just put their Chinese names into Google translate

The guy=Chang Hong (lol, Google translator can't even give me a English name).

The girl=Julian (Google translate gave me an actual name. What madness is this)

The cruel promoter= Haga (I’ll laugh if Google translate is actually right)

I'll edit it out latter if someone gives me the romaji for these three characters.

The other thing to note is that apparently the guy is a least in high school and the girl who’s a cursed children is only younger than him by 3 years.

Which doesn't seem right, because the cursed children are 10 years old at most.

The Chinese translator likely either goofed with the guys grade or goofed with the age difference.

Or I goofed and can't read.

It's pretty minor things through and through. And I probably wrote too much at this point.

Now then onto volume 2 prologue.

Chang Hong is running away down a street towards freedom.

He had already run 5 kilometers and his body felt unbearable pain. Thinking back his high school friends always teased him saying he should work out more.

Damn it, they were right!

A girl that's younger to him by 3 years asked him if he's alright.

Unlike him she's hardly winded. Her red eyes shone in the darkness indicating that she's one of the cursed children.

They continued to run while Chang Hong thought to himself that they can't afford to get caught or else they would get thrown back into that dark place.

However 5 kilometers had taken a toll on him and he tripped.

Julian seeing that it's hopeless if they kept on running instructed him to continue running while she held off the pursuer. She then turned and started fighting the pursuer.

Chang Hong screamed at her that she can't hope to fight the enemy initiator.

Just as he said this Julian got knocked back hard and hit the ground like a ball.

This caused Chang Hong to turn white in terror. Julian wasn't even close to a match, the enemy initiator is far stronger than he had imagined.

He picked up Julian and continued running. He soon saw a Ferris wheel. It appears to be an amusement park.

Hoping to lose them among the crowds of the amusement park he entered it but it's to deserted. Even though it was a weekend evening he couldn't find any crowds. Looking back Chang Hong jumped in terror. The two pursuers had caught up already.

"Crime is absolutely unacceptable. I can't forgive you guys."

The twin tailed, red haired 10 year old girl said.

"Nice job Enju" the other pursuer a gorgeous 16 year old girl who’s seemingly the twin tailed girls promoter, said. She then turned to face Julian and Chang Hong.

"You two are Chang Hong and Julian right? Tendo Civil Security Company has been commissioned to catch you guys."

Tendo Civil Security Company............ this name seemed familiar, upon searching his memories he came to a realization.

“Tendo Civil Security Company, don’t tell me, you guys are that Tendo Civil Security Company”.

“Oh so you know of us?”

“More than just know.”

When Tokyo was on the verge of destruction the one that saved it was Tendo Civil Security Company.

While the name of the savior of Tokyo had been kept under wraps from the public (likely due to fear of another country catching wind of it and kidnapping or assassination the savior), it couldn’t stop the name “Rentaro Satomi” from spreading all over the mines.

“That’s right. We’re Tendo Civil Security Company and I’m the president Kisara Tendo. And you guys fell for our trick. Because Satomi-kun works here at this amusement park”.

This info caused the two to be stunned by fear.

“Look, this is the pride of Tendo Civil Security Company. The strongest Promoter, RENTARO SATOMI”.

With a dramatic flair, Kisara called out.

The two fell to the ground in despair. It’s over. The ridiculously strong initiator was already more than enough. Add in the legendary Promoter? It meant instant death.

The two closed their eyes and awaited their death.

But it didn’t come, causing the two to open their eyes in confusion.

Kisara to looked confused.

“Enju-chan. I thought you said Satomi-san worked here?”

“I also have no clue. I wanted to see his workplace many times but Rentaro always said absolutely not, even if I die I won’t let you here”.

The four looked around in confusion and upon closer inspection, although this place was very deserted there’s one place with plenty of children.

It was the magical girl show, and the kids are kicking and beating a figure wearing magical girl clothes. Getting beat is likely the job of the unpopular character “magical girl violet” from the magical girl anime.

“Kill it!”, “Get rid of her”, “Hehee”, “Quickly die”.

Vague screams followed the children’s beatings.

Kisara stared unamused.

“Can it be”?

“-Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, fuck it, you kids are so annoying”.

With that declaration the “magical girl” stood up. “She” preceded to take of the mask on “her” head revealing the sweating face of a teenage male with sinister eyes.

“Be more considerate of me. You shitty kids. God damn it I want to beat you guys up.”

At first the kids were excited but that excitement soon turned into terrified frenzy upon seeing the teen burst out of the magical girl costume.

“Violet died”, “Some weirdo popped out”, “So terrifying”.

“Hey, don’t cry. I’m telling you to not cry. Look I’m a magical girl………………………………….. Oh screw it. Yes, I’m some kind of alien larvae that emerged from Magical Girl Violet’s belly. Are you happy now, little bastards”.

Upon saying that the youth threw the mask and the wand on the floor and stomped over to the direction of the 4 (while still wearing the magical girl suit).

Kisara looked surprised, and crossed her arms and complained:

“Satomi-kun’s to slow. You should’ve came, the instant I called you”.

“Even if you say that Kisara-san. I risked my life to protect Tokyo. Why is the company income still smaller than a convenient store? Because of this, I’m force to take this kind of degrading job, as a human punching bag.”

“At working hours, call me president. And our low wage is because of you, Rentaro-san. After defeating the stage 5 gastrea, gastrea activity has gone down drastically. Because of that in the past month we only finished one commission. Did you know Rentaro-san, that due to that, a certain other person had an income of 0 for the past month. You. Piece. Of. Trash.”

After getting told off Rentaro groaned. He then noticed the two on the side.

“Those two are?”

“Capture targets.”

“Government job?”

“Nope. A job from another civil security”.

“Oh? Nothing unusual then.”

Muttering how boring this job is Rentaro turned to them and asked, “Well then, what are you two guilty of?”

The two glanced at each other before Chang Hong recounted how due to his dad’s debt he got caught by a bunch of underworld gangs and forced to work in varium mine. That varium mine also hired civil security guards to look over it. When a bunch of people rebelled he took that chance to escape with Julian. Somehow they managed to grab a Jeep and escape to Tokyo.

After hearing this the 3 members obviously didn’t agree to their capture and Rentaro asked Kisara what should they do.

However Kisara revealed that she already contacted their benefactor, and told him that they had found the target.

As Rentaro questioned her on what she meant by benefactor a crossbow bolt pierced the cement underneath Chang Hong’s leg.

“Finally found you. You shitty brats”.

Chang Hong almost let out a scream. It’s the cruel promoter that he knew from the mines that killed 3 people because he disliked them. His name is revealed to be Haga.

“You dared to trick me, prepare yourself, I’ll feed your corpses to the pigs”.

I have to escape, Chang Hong thought but he can’t.

Haga pointed his crossbow and prepared to fire but Rentaro cut in.

“Wait a sec, old man. Are you the civil security guard that hired us? Where’s your initiator?”

Haga just noticed Rentaro and sneering said:

“I’ll give you your reward, so shut up, you dogs.”

“Idiot, I’m asking you, where’s your initiator”.

Rentaro unflinchingly stared at Haga. Feeling fear, Haga moved his eyes away and told him.

“Tch, now that you mention it I once had one. But because she always barked nonstop so I killed her. Because it was determined to be death by duty, so I guess I’ll be getting another initiator latter to replace……..”

“Tendo style”

“Eh?”

“Phasing ghost fist.” (Not at all accurate since the author deliberately chooses impossible words to name Tendo Style attacks but whatever).

Rentaro’s fist made contact with Haga’s face breaking his nose, knocking off three front teeth, and also sending him flying 3 meters in the process.

“Don’t screw with me! People like you bring shame to civil security guards. If you’re still a civil security guard the next time I meet you, I’ll kill you!”

Rentaro cursed at the fallen Haga but stiffened up instantly once he realized the implications of what he done. Then ashamed he turned to Kisara who held her head like she developed a headache.

“Sorry, I screwed up again.”

“Why did you have to send the benefactor flying, Satomi-san. Do you know how many times this makes, where we can’t get any payment. If you want to kick his ass, kick it after we get paid.”

“You only care about that!”

Chang Hong was shocked at this development.

Rentaro borrowed paper from Kisara and after writing down some address handed it to Chang Hong. He then instructed him to go look for Tadashima (the detective in the first chapter of volume 1) who should be able to help them. Hong Chang didn’t know what to say to this act of kindness.

Kisara’s phone started ringing and she picked up.

“Rentaro-san, we finally have a prey, a stage 1 gastrea has been spotted in distract 23. Seems to have come in from flying”.

“Wait, Kisara-san, this is distract 11……… do you want to call a taxi”.

Kisara propped up her bike.

“Don’t be silly, we don’t have any money. Run, right now!”

Rentaro realized that he’s still in his magical girl attire.

“Then help me, this zipper is broken, I can’t open it by myself”

Both Enju and Kisara eyes shined and they both let out a small laugh.

“That suits you, Satomi-san”, “Looks good Rentaro”

Rentaro hang his head.

“Give me a break”.

Rentaro chased after Enju and Kisara who are riding a bike.

This was all reflected from Chang Hong’s eyes.

Asking nothing in return, carrying out their own justice.


“That’s real civil security guard”.

After that Chang Hong asked Julian to be his initiator and she promptly agreed.

The number of pair of civil security guards logged into IISO, 24000.

Squeezed inside the monolith, the world slowly headed to destruction.

Initiator, and Promoter.

Using their inner power to combat gastrea- they are the last hope of humanity.
