Woo! Now that was a fight!

Good on Vivio. I wasn't sure she was going to pull that off. They really did have me thinking she was going to lose like Miura. Especially when she took that brutal barrage of hits from Rinne. But I love both that she won and that it made sense. Rinne spent the whole fight adjusting to Vivio's speed and style. Then Vivio switches it up so she's attacking with an arm she barely used during the match and with a different timing that Rinne couldn't adjust to.

This actually is a great move. Vivio winning creates all kind of emotional damage for Rinne to take. Losing via KO is horribly traumatic for her. Her losing still sets up the match against Fuka. And Fuka will have the free time for that match since if she wins this upcoming fight then she's got a free pass to the finals since Vivio will have to retire from the tournament. And Rinne being so messed up can make for a good emotional match against Fuka.

Just a strong way to conclude a fight. Really did just feel great after seeing Vivio pull that off.

That is , assuming Rinne even shows up to fight Fuka - this lost might mean Rinne can't even step into ring in her current psychological state. Losing twice to the same opponent seems to have broken Rinne's spirit, and that frightened, meek girl we know from Rinne's youth seems to have taken over again. I imagine that this is the point that Victoria Dhalgrun's presence in the OP with Jill will be explained because it seems to be that Victoria might intervene in Rinne's case.

After thinking about the fight, the structure of the fight actually is very emblematic of Vivio's counter-style. Switching stances mid-battle is a very strategic counter meant to overturn your opponent's strategy by making her previous calculations erroneous and irrelevant. When Rinne goes on her offensive rampages, and her ability to adapt to changing strategies drops sharply; Vivio has the perfect opportunity to switch stances and timing - and after that, all Vivio needs to do is to lure Rinne into dropping her guard to go into an attack, and unleash her finisher Axel Smash infinity past Rinne's guard.

The funniest moment in this episode was Rinne musing that Vivio has a privileged life - a well to do family, a strong circle of close (and powerful) friends, and many, many adults who care about Vivio's wellbeing. If only Rinne knew how horrifying Vivio's life was before adoption.... The runner up is Jill Storia dismissing the clone of the Saint Kaiser as weak and talentless. While it's true that Vivio is somewhat of a magical cripple thanks to the cradle, she has the same strategic and tactical mind as the woman who ended the Belkan wars. The fight between Vivio and Rinne was a triumph of technique over raw power.

Certainly how Rinne responds to all this will be key. At a very low point right now. Not a whole lot lower to go than throwing up in the bathroom. What will trigger her standing up again will be interesting. Fuka's upcoming fight could at the very least serve as some kind of motivation to at least accept the challenge. At the very least for there to be a point of a Fuka vs Rinne fight she can't exactly be encouraged in a way that deals with her inherent problem. Victoria could give her a push to at least face her friend and find her answers there.

I suppose it makes sense for Rinne to lose here. She can't use her full talents in this tournament. If Fuka is going to knock sense into her then there can't be any possible excuse in her mind. This tournament forbidding low tackles which somewhat sealed away her full capabilities. Not that this made the whole difference in the fight vs Vivio, but an unofficial match opens up the rules a bit.

On a side note, I'm curious about where Jeremiah is going to fit into this. She is in the OP...so should show up eventually. Is she going to pop up in order to knock Fuka around a bit to help prepare her for some of Rinne's moves ?

Vivio had to take some hits, but in the end showed the strength of her style. Her strike arts isn't something to be underestimated.

I suppose it can't be helped that Rinne (and really even Jill) don't understand Vivio. All that stuff about her background is classified . In a sense she really was just making the same incorrect judgments as Fuka did in episode 1. Rinne's lack of understanding just added to her confusion during that fight and maybe helped Vivio who was very much focused.

And really even in the stuff she was right about...she didn't get it. Vivio is rather happy in her life right now. She does have friends, precious family, and is chasing the things she loves to do. But Rinne didn't get that all that is a reason for her to keep fighting and endure. For Rinne martial arts are something she 'needs' in order to not lose anything. She can't see that someone can love taking part in it and endure for reasons other than seeking power. Of course Rinne can't see either that what she's doing is keeping her from gaining things she wants. She could have friends, she has parents who care about her, and being trapped by her past is locking her out from her future.

But, that's just something that she and Fuka will have to figure out.

Friendship level achieved?

Rinne needs to get her issues fixed with a few more proper ass beatings before she can be proper friends with thw Vivio squad.

When I saw this episode I thought yes this is what vivid should have been like. For all I have complained I can honestly say this episode was awesome.

In an earlier episode it was agreed upon that if Rinne lost to anyone from the nakajma gym they could arrange a match. I believe this is what is going to happen. And with Rinne emotionally wound up from her fight with miura and her defeat to vivio the stage is set.

Also what is the deal with Jill? It is like there is something in her past that makes her sympathize with Rinne. She even fears that she will be cast aside since RInne lost to vivio twice.

I also wonder what this series would have been like if vivio had been the main character instead of Fuuka. I wonder how this story would have played out.

Also where dose it state that vivio is a cripple because of the cradle.

Pretty entertaining episode.

We got the continued fight between Vivio and Rinne. Rinne didn't have any intention on giving up so I think she took quite a bit of risky to land her attacks even if it meant taking some damage herself first. The amount of power she put into her fist attacks felt abnormal, probably with the intention to destroy her opponent. At that point, I think Vivio was at a more disadvantage as she couldn't fully block those attacks.

Still, I was impressed by how Vivio was able to ultimately win the fight. Looks like she definitely improved more than before and Rinne was the one that got koed. This probably sets up for a future fight between her and Fuka. Anyway, this way my favorite fight in this season so far.

Went to check on the sub version, totally disappointed. You guys pretty much can throw the whole subs version of this episode.

For example the reason why it is called axle smash infinity explained at the backroom after the match is because as long as Vivio still has the will(or consciousnes) to do it she can strike forever, not something in the subs saying "knock them out consciousnes" lol. OR during Vivio striking the triple, Miura is actually saying "still not done yet(or there is still more", not "it sure is". OR...

This episode's subs need some serious repair.

Is the translator using some voice translation system by recording what the characters are saying and let system do all the translation, but the subs will be wrong if the character voice or speech is unclear.

The most obvious to me was Jill saying Vivio's left arm is giving up when it should be Vivio's leg is crushed.

"Cripple" may be putting it a bit excessively, however a part of the Vivid manga that the anime skipped reveals that she suffered permanent damage from the events in the Cradle. She's lost most of her magic power, along with her inherited ability: the Saint's Armor. That's a fairly light price to pay, considering that once someone becomes king of the Cradle they are not ever supposed to be able to leave again. But it is still damage she has taken that can never be healed.

Yeah in terms of the possible consequences the losses Vivio took were light. Is too bad that the consequences were to the level that she took those losses.

Still, it does almost make Vivio a more interesting character as a result. Having to overcome a kind of handicap to still be a very skilled and high level fighter. A pretty good result in this tournament when you look at it. Basically 'losing' in the semi-finals against Fuka because she can't compete in it. A top 4 finish which isn't something to feel bad about.

How did Vivio use the Saint's Armor in her fourth fight with Einhart in the Vivid manga then, curiously?

She didn't. She just altered her Barrier Jacket to match in coloration the one she wore on the Cradle.

That's a real shame then, one can only wonder how Vivio at her max potential capacity would have been against Rinne.

As Rising Dragon says, she didn't. She changed the appearance of her barrier jacket for the psychological impact. What she used to defend herself during the fight was just an extremely dangerous and precise use of Chris' defensive abilities. She basically drained all of her power, including all the defensive power of her barrier jacket, and placed it all as a pinpoint shield: defending precisely the location she was hit with all the power she had. So her defense at that location on her body was super strong, but she was effectively naked everywhere else. And when she attacked she redirected all of that power into her attacks, boosting them to extreme levels, but again leaving herself completely defenseless.

Had she failed to defend against a single hit with the force they normally use in these fights, she could have been outright killed. In fact, the only reason Vivio lived through that fight is because Einhart realized what she was doing in time, and held back on the hits she did manage to land.

Isn't that potential, all artificially created? Saint Kings are granted a special core upon birth that grants them super magic reserves and strength as well as Cradle privileges to my memory. This is what Olivie received to command the Cradle.

What Jail did to Vivio was give her that red gem relic as a substitute, I thought. Vivio and possibly Olivie were never all that powerful. It's just that core gives them massive power boosts.

But max potential Vivio assuming with core would wipe the floor with Rinne in a heartbeat probably.

Vivio had the Saint's Armor before Jail ever got his hands on her. Quattro mentioned that more than once.

Seeing as a Limiter-released Nanoha had trouble breaking through her Sankt Armor, not to mention having enough physical strength to break off her Binds, yeah, I doubt Rinne's blows can even damage Vivio with Sankt armor active.

I keep laughing in hindsight as I heard Rinne say Vivio's a spoon-fed girl. What was her first ever entrance in the series again? Oh yeah, crawling through a sewer wearing nothing but rags.

No matter how pleased I am with the outcome, and how angry I am with NanoFate censored...

But what will happen to the Fuuka X Rinne ship?
Is it going down the drains now that Fuuka is a total Einhart fangirl, while Rinne is curious and want to know more about Vivio?

Saint's Armor is a genetic trait, as Random said. The Relic likely did boost Vivio's abilities, but as noted in the manga it can't repair existing damage. Olivie was noted to have been born with damaged organs, but still wound up being the single most powerful mage of her time--not to mention of all existence thus far.
