Episode 1
That was weird. This is mostly coming from being a manga fan, so maybe someone who hasn't read it will have a different opinion, but I'm disappointed that they don't have the episode count to really do the opening parts of the story properly. There's nothing technically "wrong" with the way the episode was rearranged, but it was definitely simplified and different, and the way the manga developed the characters before they met definitely worked better imo. On the plus side, the production values are great, the music is nice, and the animation and effects rock. The action is really enjoyable to watch. The OP is great too. Love the song, the animation, etc. The ED song is awful though. Ewww. >_< |

I'll read the manga eventually, probably right after the anime ends if I don't crack before that. Anyway good to hear A-1 are actually trying with the animation here lol. |

I didn't mind the reshuffling in episode 1 that much myself, as the first chapter of the manga hadn't won me over yet - with that said, it does leave me worried for the upcoming episodes (although I've been from the moment they said they'd be focusing on the Balbad arc and would "rearrange" the story to get there asap). It'd be a terrible shame if they didn't take the time to handle these really charming parts properly. There's so much scenery porn and atmospheric scenes they should be feeding us!
But yeah, that's worries for the future. I found this episode to be a very strong start, which should hook newcomers easily. It captured the characters' strong points well, had some gorgeous animation, and the voices all worked. (Elizabeth?!?) Special mention to the OP storyboarded by Nagai which looks (and sounds) fantastic, on top of having the merit of not going the lazy way of copypasting the PV footage and calling it a day (looking at quite a few disappointing fall OPs here - I thought I was in for one more of these). I hope last week's special actually helped to get strong ratings for the premiere, paving the way for huge success. Sunday needs it!

I finished the first episode.
Sure it's kinda sad they changed it so much but I actually don't really mind. It was a great first episode, I honestly love the voice acting. Aladdin sounds so moe and Yuki Kaji as Alibaba was a great choice (that coming from someone that only thought Mamoru-san would fit lolol but now I think Mamoru-san wouldn't have fit him so much lmao). I'm looking forward to the next episode and I don't mind more changes if they're good~ |

I think the comedy failed somehow. There were a lot of little moments that should have been pretty hilarious but I just didn't feel it.
As for the reshuffling of scenes and events, I don't really mind. I just would like them to handle the comedy better. Overall though, it was a still a good first episode.

Great start. First episode did everything it needed to and it did it well. I really like that they actually redid Aladdin, Alibaba & Mor's action scenes for the OP. The ED is bleh though. Having it play during the last part is the only thing I wasn't too fond off. Anyway I hope they'll be able to convey the manga's charms from here on. But two eps for the first dungeon can only go so well...

The episode was great, the reshuffling worked well, and having Mor-san added is a huge plus.
Only thing would be no Sassa and Laila. I wonder if they'll be introduced late, later on when they reappear.

Hmmm... Well, I'm actually quite happy with how the 1st episode turned out They switched things up quite a lot, but... I don't know, it worked for me. Glad they decided to keep Elizabeth, I laughed so hard when I heard her sexy voice and the saw her The OP and music in general were awesome, SID did a good job, the ending however.... as generic as they get, to the point that it's annoying. Anyhoo, the episode looked and sounded gorgeous (the VA choices were really good after alland I really liked Yuki Kaji as Alibaba). I'd call this a success! Now, the dungeon arc in two episodes... We'll see...

^Same here.
I liked the pacing fine, I liked the interactions of characters, the BGM was absolutely wonderful, and the art excellent. In fact, I can't stop repeating the episode.
