Ever17 -The Out of Infinity-

I've learned how to used dsp2003's program so I'm going to fix all the typos and such. If anyone wants to help me, you can point out some of the typos or sentence fragments or whatever for me. I'm going to edit Tsugumi's route first. These are most of the things I changed in the prologue until the first choice.

Ok, played through it.

I wasn't terribly impressed by the good endings. All of them felt somewhat unsatisfactory in some way or another. The worst for me were You's and Sora's paths. Sora's path was underwater melodrama, while You's path literally listed all the unanswered questions and ended. People that know me probably know that I hate unanswered questions. After playing through these, I started wondering why this VN had been so highly hyped.

It all made sense after playing the True End. Incredible. A masterpiece. About as well written and intelligent a story as I've seen in the mystery genre. The plot twists were dramatic and had a big impact. The way the story answered its questions was genius, but, more importantly, the way it melded with its philosophical and mythical references was just incredible. Pretty much everything had a meaning by the end.

None of the characters were wasted either. Every character had a motivation that became clear by the end and/or an amount of depth that made them interesting. They were all just as well written as the plot.

Ok, the Blick Winkel stuff makes a clumsy attempt to avoid a time paradox, but I don't care, because it plays to one of the major themes of the story: the third eye, or the existence of extra dimensions. Personally I think Yubiseiharukana's explanation was good: to get a third dimensional being onto the same plane as a set of two dimensional beings, you put them in a line. Once you accept that Blick Winkel can interact with people trapped in Lemu, then it's not too hard to accept that Blick Winkel can manipulate time (the fourth dimension). I think the fact that Blick Winkel can also see other timelines (such as Hokuto's alternative endings), arguably makes Blick Winkel a five-dimensional being. I think this is well within the bounds of the VN, since it makes such a big deal out of observers that exist outside of three dimensions.

Spoiler for Tsugumi during the True Ending:

I bawww'd so hard during the scene where they revealed what had happened to Tsugumi between 2017 and 2034. That was an incredibly powerful and dramatic plot twist.

Brilliant VN. I haven't read all that many VN's, but this is the most intelligent and well written one I've read by a long way. Simply outstanding. The only problem is that you have to play through 80% of it before you see it at its most powerful, but I'm fine with that. A good story generally peaks at the end.

Hi, this is a pretty dumb question about Ever17. I read that you need to unlock the various character storylines(Sora, You, etc., etc.) in a certain order, to reach the true ending.

If I unlocked Sora's storyline first, does this mean I'll have to play her story again yet another round(from beginning to end)? I enjoyed her story but I don't think I could play it yet again.

Phew... thank you so much! Does this apply to any and all visual novels?

Mmmh... oh and some comments I forgot to add in my previous post: I know what a lot of folks said about the Sora storyline but it was quite moving for me. At least her characerisation seemed pretty decent.

P.S. Anyone knows how to rip out the bgm.dat files?

Oops, never saw that. But now have. Wow, great tool you've got there. Though the pictures for the buttons could do with some text below them, it's awesome I was finally able to extract the @#$@ Waf files.

Phew... I can't wait to unlock the other scenarios I haven't seen from my first playthrough. Also, Takeshi: erasing someone from your perception of reality sure ain't normal. I've not met Sara though I'd like to, soon.

I think...after finishing the Coco's arc (by starting the game as both Kid & Takeshi).

Btw, there's something that's bugged me for a while.

There was this part that read:

"But things hadn't taken a turn for the worse either. There didn't seem to be any impending floor or collapse" <--- anyone knows what that means? "Floor or collapse"? *confused*

It's a typo. A typo like the hundreds of other. It should "flood or collapse"
It took me like 15 minutes to figure that out

b) Jellyfish gondola
c) warehouse
d) Control room


After the scenario for scene a) played out, I was given:

a) Jellyfish gondola
b) warehouse
c) control room
d) Security room

Anyone know why choice d) was not in the first list? Was this a programming error? An engine limitation(only 4 choices can be displayed) or...?

Is it that moment when you part with Takeshi after they followed Tsugumi?
Maybe it is real engine limitation but isnt it that you already are near Security room?
If not, whats the point of of going there? You need to kill some time befor you can meet Takeshi again anyway.
