a) That "one year" business announced a few days back was probably a Sankaku Complex troll. Couple guys over there love to spread deceptive, if not outright baseless, rumors about the continued nonexistence of new Haruhi. This is the former, because...

b) There's no reason to believe that Kadokawa's going to announce Volume 10 as part of a publishing roadmap. As much as people are waiting for this one, they're bound to make a big deal out of it once it's finally announced. My guess is right about the time we get new Haruhi TV, which should be in about two or three weeks (crosses fingers).

It wasn't probably a troll, it was a definite troll or just outright ignorance. It was a horrible (mis)translation as is par for the site. Basically the article said "It's been a year since the original delay, onto the second year of waiting" which means basically nothing. It was just noting that it had been a year. Kadokawa hasn't said anything new.

Oh.

That would be basically the entire Second Novel, "Bamboo Leap Rhapsody" which is the first chapter of the Third Book, and "Endless Eight", which is the first chapter in the Fifth Book.

Thought the ED did show a scene from the Fourth Book and the OP from some of the other books, it just shouldn't be referenced in the anime yet because those events have not yet taken place.

Boredom(as in the story itself) was the first chapter of the third book. BLR was the second.

I don't remember any Ouendan in the novels but then again I don't really remember the novels too well.

Look here to find a list of the first season episodes. Look on the Baka-Tsuki site on the Haruhi project page and note that some of the chapter titles (and the title of the first volume) match up with episodes of the first season. Those that don't are your "holes". "Someday in the Rain" was anime-only. Assuming 14 new episodes, everything at least up to "Adventures of Asahina Mikuru Episode 00" should be included, and possibly up to (but not including) Volume 7 (except maybe part of the prologue).
