The only way to get the "meh" out of the idea of Chippndale Haruki is if someone (that has current drawing talent) actually draws them in that attire. It is just basically (tight) black leather pants, white cuffs, and a black bow tie. They can have the strip away white sleeveless shirt on if you like, but even the Warner Brothers cartoons use shirtless Chippndale to counterpoint the Playboy Bunny. Remember they only use the Bunny Girl look a few times: both Mikuru and Haruhi to give out flier early on. Haruhi when it is hot outside during the later part of Book 1. Mikuru again for the film project (when she is selling for local stores). And then Haruhi during the School Festival. So actually the costume is on Haruhi more than Mikuru.

Mikuru gets the maid outfit most of the time, thus butler works. Though during the summer with the nurse outfit? Doctor doesn't quite work there does it? That is probably the place you'd get the policeman and fireman type cosplay. Whatever it is needs to be able to excite a high school girls softball team instantly.

Someone wondered what outside Book 1 they should be doing. What about the Second Year students yosoba cafe'? There you have prime LOL-FANG-san and can pick out some outfit for the all male servers that would draw in all the female student even with crappy food and tap water.

I sketched up a few ideas for that last night actually...
I am part way through drawing a 'proper' picture, but that won't be done for a while so... I guess I'll show the sketches I did ^^'

“I know~!”

That’s right; I can’t give up this easily. Even a girl has pride too. I halfheartedly raised my head and stared intently at my screen. I felt my eyes widen slightly, seeing as Nagato-kun already located most of the enemies, though the commander was nowhere to be seen yet. I looked at him and smiled appreciatively, with him only giving me a blank nod before typing on his keyboard again. Somehow, I think we might just have a chance, with Nagato-kun helping me out…

What strategy should we use?

"Alright...... here!"

I stared into the LCD monitor of my notebook PC, guessing Commander Haruki's intentions would lead us.

But before we get there, I’d like to relate just how we got into this fine mess…

It all began a week ago.



One autumn day after school.

The school festival has already ended. Our school was back to its peaceful days…

“……”

Well, ‘peaceful’ is the closest I can get with describing how it is when times are normal. Or at least, as normal as it can get when your and unwilling part of the SOS Brigade… But still, my situation couldn’t be more relaxing.

I felt a little hurt since the others won’t talk to me about the details fully. Koizumi was being more smiley than ever, though. Nagato-kun’s blank expression looked heartening.

I found out that I’m now relying quite a lot on Nagato-kun for foretelling if strange things were to come. Right now, he was reading as much as ever, which is as good a sign as it can get. If he were to act weird or helpless, I don’t know if I can stop myself from panicking!

Meanwhile, a cute boy crossdressing as a cute maid continues serving tea. Frankly, I’m not too sure if I could believe he was from the future. If he was from the future, he should at least act like he knew some of the things that would happen more often! He began preparing Japanese like a pro. He actually makes me slightly jealous since he’s so good and yet he’s a boy. Asahina-sempai’s so accurate with his measurements that he could make excellent tea with even just tap water!

He held a thermometer in one hand, opened the kettle lid with her other hand and stuck the thermometer into the kettle, studying it intently. I just couldn't see him as someone from the future. It didn’t fit his image at all. Though in retrospect, the supposedly true identities of my other co-members doesn’t fit at all. I sighed, realizing that I’m the only normal person here. But if everybody in the group isn’t normal, then does that make me the freak? Ugh. I’m over-thinking again…

This club room once belonged to the Literature Club, but for some time now it had been the lair for Suzumiya Haruki and his henchmen. I'm probably pretty special myself, if I can remain sane in such a distorted dimension. Everybody was backed up by something special, and Haruki, our self-proclaimed leader, was even more enigmatic as he was uncontrollably willful. We’re full of Boke’s while I’m the sole Tsukkomi. Guu~! This is frustrating!

Four complete wierdo’s against an objective girl – the ratio’s way off! I’m supposed to be the damsel in distress who was forced into captivity here, not the damsel in distress forced to fend for herself here! If only someone could share my pain… This burden is a little too much for a simple girl like me to handle. Oh, woe is me. Forced to carry the weight of the world on my willowy shoulders! I wish I could get someone to help, but Kunikida and Taniguchi doesn’t deserve to be subjected to this. For all my vocabulary and knowledge about stuff that never sees use in school, I can hardly rein Haruki myself, how can they? Tsuruya-san would also be a good candidate, but he’s buddies with Haruki! Sigh…

"Hmm."

I crossed my arms and legs, mumbling silently while in deep thought… though it wasn’t me pondering on what next move to make in my Go game with Koizumi. She was too easy to defeat, in any board game for that matter. So easy that I sometimes think she’s just doing so to appease me with wins. Well, sorry. I may be simple but I’m definitely not as shallow as that! But anyway, the thing that was troubling me was whether this world is normal or not. Because according to my theory, in a mad world, only the insane can live their lives normally; even the most mentally sane would be driven mad sooner or later. I think I should commend myself for being able to exist peacefully as a normal high school student in this whirlpool that is the SOS Brigade, where normal rules don't apply. I ought to be praised just for this alone.

"Allow me to give you some words of praise, then, Kyon~chan."

Koizumi managed to elegantly place her piece down on the Go board and gracefully took one of my white pieces away. She may have made a good move, but it’s already too late, she was on the losing side since three moves ago.

"Thanks, but maybe not." I replied, placing my hands into the container carrying the Go pieces. Koizumi only smiled more sickeningly sweet than usual while praising me as I mixed the pieces… though instead of getting the supposedly desired effect, I’m feeling more aggravated. I stopped mixing the Go pieces for a moment and crossed my arms on the table, resting my chin on them. "You’re praises aren’t really giving me a feeling of gratification, Koizumi-san. Instead, I’m getting more apprehensive on what you could be plotting. Let me tell you right now that refuse to be used in some crazy stunts you are trying to pull.”

She only copied my posture, her eyes staring dreamily into mines, making me feel extremely uncomfortable that I had to avert my eyes, "Oh please, don’t be so paranoid, Kyon-chan. I am more of a supporting character here. You and Suzumiya-san are the ones leading the dance.” She raised a finger and traced it in the air in a wavy pattern, “I’m just a butterfly drawn in by the flowers blossoming in the spring…”

Brushing away the highly-unpleasant thought of me dancing with Haruki, I instead refocused my look on her, making it a slight glare this time. Koizumi Itsuko, an admittedly very attractive young girl with seemingly no flaws. But of course, Haruki didn’t pick her for her appearance or personality. It’s simply because she was transfer student; something that seems to interest Haruki more than gender-attributes. I don’t know who’s intention was it that the two of them meet in such circumstance and she be brought in the Brigade. Shouldn’t she be avoiding Haruki if she was indeed an esper that he would surely go gaga over?

"That was in the past."

Koizumi picked up a Go piece and played with it deftly on her hand. “In truth, I was told to do nothing more than to observe Suzumiya-san. You could imagine my shock and how scared I have been when he barged in to our homeroom and brought me here.” she put down to piece and picked another one, elegantly holding it in front of her eyes as if to observe the design.

You? Afraid? I’d imagine the entire class would be the shock and scared ones instead.

She giggled annoyingly, “But that’s the truth. And in the end, I couldn’t help but smile when I found about our Brigade’s objectives.” she continued nostalgically, "But things are different now. I may have been a mysterious transfer student back then, but I've lost that attribute already. I'm sure Suzumiya-san thinks so as well."

"Does it matter? You’re still one of the defining persons of the category, ‘Mysterious’ for me."

Koizumi looked around the room like a cat that loves narrow spaces: she first fixed her gaze for a while on Nagato-kun who was busy reading, then on Asahina, who was paying close attention to the kettle. Then her gaze returned to its original spot.

Haruki wasn't in, since he had cleaning duty that day, or Koizumi and I wouldn't have been chatting away in a relaxed manner. To be honest, I never thought Haruki would actually follow the schedule of cleaners, given how obstinate he is.

In a club room with the commander absent, Koizumi smiled gently like an experienced vet about to cure a wounded bird and said. She gesture lightly with her other hand, "Right now, I, Nagato-san, Asahina-san, and you have now become the wonderful members of the SOS Brigade, nothing more, nothing less. I'm sure Suzumiya-san must be thinking the same way as well."

We played another game, with me using white. "May I ask what's your definition of 'nothing more, nothing less'? Is there some meaning to that?"

"Of course there is a meaning. Paranormal existences like aliens and dimensional travelers are considered more than just members, while everyone else is less significant than us members."

Then Taniguchi, Kunikida, Tsuruya-san and my brother are considered less significant than members? That sounds really unfair.

"It's simple, really. If their existence meant a lot to Suzumiya-san, then they would already be members by now and would be here in this room as we speak… but the fact that they're not means that they aren't important in the eyes of Suzumiya-san.

"They only mean as much to her as the ordinary passerby. Really, after talking so much, we still couldn't avoid using the consequential theory."

"Then what about dimensional travelers? Have they not arrived yet?"

"Judging from the results, they probably don't exist. If they did, then they would be summoned to this room by chance or by fate."

"They'd better not come. I don't want to be sucked into an alternate dimension."

As I placed my white piece down and devoured Koizumi's pieces, a tea cup was being placed by the Go board with the victor decided.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. Please enjoy your tea."

Smiling like a gentle coach who had managed to lead his rag-tag school baseball team to the regional championships, Asahina stood by the table and said,

"I bought a new brand of tea leaves called 'Karigane.' It's easy to brew, but it's really expensive."

Asahina-sempai~! Shouldn’t you be asking Haruki for reimbursement on your expenses? You don’t have to shoulder the expenses on your own; nor do you need to pick top-class tea for our sakes. The thought is what matters, and with your skill, any kind of tea tastes good; whether tap water is used or not.

"Here, then please try out the tea."

Asahina had cosplayed as a maid for so long that he was getting good at it. Ugh, if Haruhi was trying to make him manlier, this is definitely NOT how he should do it. He placed another cup by Koizumi's side, then gracefully carried the tray over and placed a cup by Nagato's side. But then again, a part of me isn’t really complaining on how Asahina-sempai is right now.

"......"

As per usual, Nagato-kun only thanked Asahina-sempai with deathly silence, though it did not seem to perturb our crossdressing senior at the least. Come to think of it, Nagato-kun is always like this to everyone. He’s like a robot… But maybe that’s fine. I can’t imagine Nagato-san as anything else now. If he were, I’d probably pass out from the shock. And the more he is less like Haruki, the better. He’s the closest thing I could get to sanity here in the SOS clubroom, and for that I’m grateful.

It's best for silent people to remain silent. For my sanity as well…

I'll admit, I'm not too happy with this section since I ported some parts from the trans one time too many. My brain fried on me.>_< (but then, that was 3 in the morning...) I seriously cannot think of an alternative to the last bits currently... Though I am happy with my reengineering of most of Kyonko's monologues, though it felt weird at times...

Anyway, I wasn't sure whether to use the TRAP!Mitsuru bit, but I guess I have no better idea :as of now. I inserted some flirtiness on Koizumi-chan's case as well.

Now the next part might be problematic because I certainly don't think Haruki would flying kick a girl despite how much of an jerk he seems. But I'll find out something...
