Kou tells the truth to Kaito.
Then he says he's the worst for using Kaito for himself, leading to Kaito being pissed off and saying he used Kou too and finally:
「だって鋼は僕の親友で、僕にとっての主人公なんだから」

They also talk a little about Kou and Kaito's first meeting, and seems really fun, so really need to buy the LN at one point. Even more so considering vol 2 as been almost totally rewritten compared to the WN.

^Not ever girls fall for him. The three who actually like (and not just interested like the other three) him have a good reason to like him.
He also has pretty understandable reason to label himself as a best friend character. And he does act like one.
He's isn't an otaku. He was forced to watch/read stuff and it just became part of him, but he doesn't particularly like anime and such.

Unfortunately it's an open ending, but the author intends to to write after stories from time to time, so I hope he'll give a conclusion to the girls.

Does he heal from his traumas, does he get his memories back, does he clear up lingering problems of the isekai world, etc.

He went back to Isekai to take back his memories.
He spent 30 years there, but only 1 week passed on Earth. The thing is that he had all the dramatic farewells with everyone before going to isekai so he was too embarrassed to say he was back so they had to wait 1 month before knowing he was back.

So yeah, he healed his trauma and memories.

Author answered my comment on Narou, saying it was an open ending because the whole point of the novel wasn't about love, but about healing Kou. Still have hope for after stories.

30 years?! Does he come back to Earth as an oji-san?
Because it'll be very awkward when he's a 40-something but his friends are still teenagers...

Also, does the WN show his return to isekai and some of his adventures, or does it just skip all the way to his 1 month later reunion?
