The reason doujin circles work better is because the members share a workspace that they are obligated to travel to daily; for example, a school club.

Does anyone know of any projects of reasonable complexity completed by a team only communicating through the internet without any two members sharing geographic proximity?
We could get some pointers in organizing. Or does anyone here have management experience?

All of the Haruhi characters are copyrighted, but none of the Seitenkan characters are technically in Haruhi, novels or anime. Couldn't they all be considered parody?

Dunno. I'd want legal advice on that.

Fair Use, non-commercial work, etc.

To be fair, I don't think the States has the same copyright laws as Japan or even Canada, but...

Even a for-profit version may technically work if it's properly done.

Quote:
Although a parody can be considered a derivative work under United States Copyright Law, it can be protected from claims by the copyright owner of the original work under the fair use doctrine, which is codified in 17 USC § 107. The Supreme Court of the United States stated that parody "is the use of some elements of a prior author's composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author's works." That commentary function provides some justification for use of the older work. See Campbell v. Acuff-Rose Music, Inc.
So you use some elements of Kyon to create a new character Kyonko that, at least in part, comments on Kyon. Yeah, Japan has slightly different rules, but on the other hand, they're the land that's fine with allowing doujinshis to go on sale using the exact characters from the original works, not even derived characters.

Because said doujins inevitably popularize the original work, so everybody wins.

Translation: Western copyright laws are stupid.

Didn't we realize this when RIAA was formed?

I actually had to look this up, unfortunately. So they're the ones behind all the removals on YouTube? Huh.

Man, the Wikipedia article is hilariously biased against them.

Yeah, Western copyright laws suck.

So we'd place out hands into the hands of a documented and confirmed lolicon plus in a court of law?

Sigh

Did we ever get to some of those "bridges to be crossed later"? Stuff from the later books that would be more difficult to genderbent but would give inight into some of the character's personalities/reaction to situations? Mitsuuru could use attention form Book 7.

Nope, and it really doesn't look like we'll even be going anywhere near any of those bridges...

Man, writing Haruki is as fun as ever. Why don't I do this more often?

Oh, I was assuming that we'd want to do a commercial work since we'd be paying people to animate it. Some way of recouping losses or something like that.

That's just ad hominem. But for the record, pedophilia IRL is bad. Very bad.

Besides, you cast doubts on the character of the defendant, plaintiff and witness. The character of the lawyers are never/always in doubt.

Have you got a tree diagram for the plot progression? Don't spoiler it here though.
If you don't, I suggest using some online spreadsheet program like Google docs where the writing team can build one collectively.
You can then budget the number of words the writing needs.
