I found out about the manga and read it yesterday, then when I found out about the light novel I had to go read that too. Wow is all I will say.

Ch.10

Rita flashback, cont'd. She seemed to started studying stuff related to relativity and FTL particles (some documents she was reading talked about the hypothetical tachyon particle) and, after some time, succeeded in breaking out of the loop.

However, her commander (who had a newborn kid back home) died in the process. Life then went on with her taking part in action all over the world and becoming a nearly emotionless star soldier.

Next week should mark a return to current events.

Still going on with the flashback, until Rita sees Keiji doing push-ups with the rest of his teammates and notices something different about him (his dead-eye look). She spots the number Keiji wrote on his hand (159) and realizes he's a looper, too. Chapter ends with her tearing up.

I'm not a fan of Obata's design for Rita. While she does look cute, the lack of muscle tone on her body isn't very appropriate for a hardened war veteran.

The Death Note faces are great though.

and in the loop where he finally succeeds and comes out alive into the next day is also the same loop where she dies.

Welp, there goes my motivation to read this. Personally, endings like that just don't sit right with me. I'm a sucker for happy endings :[

I know Obata's designs are hot, but she was never meant to be a major character.

Well it looks like with the way the combat armors work, having fine control/flexibility is far more important than having muscle mass. Ie, a gymnast body type is probably far superior than normal strength based body type.

The problem is that Rita doesn't even have a gymnast's body.

I never said she had to be a bodybuilder, just that she needs to have some muscle tone to show that she's an athletic soldier.

Her body looks like a the generic anime girl.

After asserting each other's identity as a looper, Keiji and Rita link up the next day on the battlefield then mount a joint assault on the Mimics, using Rita's anti-loop strategy (isolation of the antenna + systematic destruction of the server network and backups). Everything goes swimmingly until Keiji tries to kill the main server...and just as he bears his battleaxe down upon his target...

...He wakes up in his bed.

The attack failed.
However (I'll need the exact translation for this, though - so take this with a grain of salt), as he tries to rewrite his loop count on his left hand, he hesitates on the last digit. It seems like he has trouble remembering just how many times exactly he went through this (a consequence of the loop-induced migraine?).

I thought it looked more like he was reaching for the pen again out of habit but while writing the 0 he just lost some hope and was like wha... why didn't that work?

I'm in for tragic ending, too much goody-goody and light hearted anime burnout I guess. Btw for the tragic ending, how tragic it gonna be? A scaling 1-10, 1 being bitter-sweet to 10 being tearjerker.

Nice manga and concept, but rubbish-tier ending.
