Just watched the trailer. wow, I had forgotten how over the top Final Fantasy stories can be.
As for the new looks of the characters, here's what I'm thinking so far. Lightning has leveled up. Badassery +2 Hotness -2 Serah has leveld up. Skankiness +4 Snow has leveled up. WTF-ness: +3 |

Surely you jest. I actually pre-ordered already from Game, and before that HMV until I saw Game offered the pre-order bonuses on the crystal version too (though game does cost 5 pounds more). They claim its uk only, but I got my pre-order bonus of ff13 from them too despite me living across the atlantic.

Ah just pre-ordered the Cyrstal Edition at EBgames (Australia) a few days ago. The inclusion of the exclusive t-shirt seems alright, but the whole OST is what I'm definitely excited for. The steel case bonus is a nice incentive as well. (:

I wonder if many people are just going to buy the Asian/Chinese edition? Since it will have the JP voices/Eng subs and is going to be released the same day as the dubbed English version. With FXIII I actually ended up buying the game a few.. times, since the release date of the Asian edition came out quite a bit after the English release. But this time I might just go with the Asian edition at least at first.
The last trailer was awesome but still... Just Serah, Noel and monsters.. ^^; And Lightning at times. As long as the guest characters (Snow, and maybe Hope and Sazh) show up quite often, then maybe it might be ok.. |

If there's a site that sells the Asian version complete with t-shirt and soundtrack, and is selling it for less than 125 bucks including shipping, then I'm all for it. But AFAIK, only EU gets the collectible stuff. XD

Well since I live in Asia... Btw, will it really be release on the same day as dubbed english version? I hope my place would sell the asian version on the same day with it Sometimes they're just weird to not sell them even though it's in Asia

Maybe I am just imagining things...
But all that talk about "another world where things happened differently" just soundly like a massive apology about the corridor game that was FFXIII. I mean, bringing the casino back? Chocobo racing? These things should never have been taken out in the first place. If we are lucky the entire FXIII would be erase from history all together and replaced with a better game.

And it is well established that FFXIII had entire planned segments cut out because they completely failed to manage their time. It had been the pattern of FF games for a while. As hardware power increases, the programmers become less able to maintain the same level of content while increasing graphics power, in the same amount of production time. The signs were there for FFX when they kept adding in new features for the International release and then the re-imported Japanese version of the International release. FFXII got hit bad with the skill managment system being incomplete and as such, once again, they had to sell a new version of the game back at the Japanese later. FFXIII is just when things really come to a head and they HAD to cut things that mattered. And they couldn't just put those things back for the International version like they used to, so now they ended up making XIII-2 for what the game should have been. Still, just downvoting me doesn't exactly tell me much of what you actually see. So tell me; what do you see?

I was just mildly surprised. I know some people don't like FFXIII, but saying that we should erase it from history is a bit harsh, I thought. I definitely did not downvote you, though.

Anyway, I am just pointing out that the trailer strongly imply you would gain the ability to make permanent changes to the universe. Together with the whole alternate dimension, and I can't help by make the connection that SE is trying to make major official retcons.

SE already registered a site domain for FFXIII-3. Go figure. But that's the way they're going for now. Making a sequel is much faster, while making a completely new FF takes 5 years or more with HD graphics.
You're not a real gamer. I'm kidding. Well, my point is, if they're going to put such ridiculous achievements that take more than 100 hours, they shouldn't even be there in the first place. There's a point when the game stops being fun and starts feeling more like work than anything else. |

Starting a FF from scratch takes so long these days on modern hardware, that they have trouble making the game AND finish the CGI at the same time. Recycling art assets seems to be a simple solution to how they haven't been able to make GAMES lately. The only question is if the gamers are going to accept that. I like to compared the FF situation to an artist who was forced to make bigger and bigger paintings while having the same amount of time. At some point in the last few years the canvas reached ridiculous football field size levels and the product quality just collapsed. To go with that Analogy, the giant canvas only has a few place painted and with the rest being pencil sketches. Quote:

Just to add on to the discussion of recycling character models with more sequels.
If anyone remembered Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, it was the single bomb that almost became the last Final Fantasy. After spending 137 million US dollars on cutting edge 3D modelling and graphics technology, the movie flopped and made only 85 million US dollars. And according to one of my lecturers, in that 137 million, 80 million was spent on just the main character Aki Ross alone. This flop was the reason why Square nearly bankrupted and had to merge with Enix to form what we have now. Square was too ambitious and Aki Ross simply cost too much to make, with every single strand of her hair individual modeled and textured. She costs more than any Hollywood actress would be paid for a single movie. Square definitely learned their lesson and now Square Enix would make full use of every single polygon they created and squeeze as much as they can from it.
