Well if Hecate's purpose is to be a sacrifice, I think that its that sacrifice, and many more things you see in a ritual/plan that is able to create his new world. I don't know about a special Hougu being involved, but all I know is that Hecate is planned to be a sacrifice for Snake's plans (or what I heard around here)

Vol 20. SoF/Yuji said they were going to make a replica of the entire earth and place it in the worlds crevice. Gehinnom makes quick accurate replicas of the desired area nearby and SoF created Haridan for the sake of his plan.

A Chinese fan-translation of Shana Vol21 has finally came out after all this time (and I finally can read it), and I think there's some points we can discuss (if it's not already mentioned) :

Spoiler for Vol21 spoilers:

- Hecate gets (or will get) sacrificed, but this is only because she can be reborned/reincarnated in another few centuries, so she's not gone for good. Every time SoF tried some kind of plan that needs sacrifices Hecate was the volunteer.

-Johan was the one responsible for Yuji being able to sense things, to get him involved with things like Flame Hazes and Denizens so Pheles will find Yuji and extract him. His plan backfired when Shana was the one that found Yuji and Yuji got a lot more powerful along the way, when he was supposed to be just taken apart for Johan to be released when Pheles found him. After talking with Pheles, Johan changed his plans to just accept a hopeless situation and his death, to taking a gamble on how Kazumi will use her cross.

Though as Yuji captured Kazumi he also figured out Pheles' cross has some kind of hidden machinisms (but not that it will summon Pheles and sacrifice Kazumi) and sealed it, only leaving how Kazumi can still move inside a fuzetsu. Bel Pore has also added a chain necklace of some kind onto Kazumi to ensure her safety from other denizens.

-Johan has also managed to contact Rami somehow and gave him the data on what he found inside the Reiji Maigo (on Silver, among other things).

-Yuji took many 'levels on badass' as he studied continuously from a library of spells that SoF has, and used his tireless body to train continously to improve his combat abilities. He also learned skills such as leadership and tactics while being the leader of Bel Mosque. He is fighting from the inside to ensure Shana and everyone will be saved, but he was the one that ultimately came up with the plan on the scenario that will lead to the creation of the new world.

I don't quite understand the 2nd paragraph... So did Shana save Yuji from Pheles?

I knew Hecate would be sacrificed, but to reincarnate in the near future is a new one o.o

Well yes, Yuji was supposed to be involved in Flame Haze and denizen things as he sense things and go check them out of curiosity. Then as everyone that tries to eat him get absorbed by the Reiji Maigo due to the SoF's spell casted on it (and boosting Johan's power), Pheles will eventually find the Reiji Maigo after its discovery and gets famous as everyone tries to get their hands on it.

But then Shana and Alastor was the one that found Yuji first and Yuji got powerful, which threw Johan's plans awry.

And as for 'near'... it's more like Hecate will be reborn in a few hundred years. But since denizens live practically forever it doesn't matter as much. Since Hecate will only be reborn when the time is right, every time she's back means SoF will probably soon return.

Who would have by then thought that the reason for this primarily due to Johan? I am wondering whether the author has already had such idea back then, or it is just an addon included recently. Nevertheless, I am more than impressed with the well-considered plot created by the author.

It is normal for us to attribute Yuji's sensing ability to Reiji Maigo, but the real reason is Johan. Okay, one mystery is solved. What about Shana's origin and background? Hope that the author can shed some light on why Shana is very popular.

I too do not want the series to end so soon. Besides that, I wish the author still has some tricks up his sleeve to extend the plot further. However, the cold hard fact is that:

Well, personally I feel rather than dragging a series on just for the sake of it, I'd prefer it to end in a good way that leaves no loose ends (even if I have to take a bittersweet end).

Eg, Detective Conan has gone on for over 700 chapters and I got tired of it seeing as the plot hardly ever goes anywhere (I dropped that after 700 or so...) - and if everything can be wrapped up nicely in the next volume I'd be satisfied.

Well, with the final volume coming March-May of next year, we can at least look forward to Shana III in fall (although it's cutting into my Index/Railgun season cycles).

Based on what I know of the Light Novels, I really do hope they don't do anything to alter it.. There have been changes with the Anime Original endings they had for both seasons, and of course they are going to have to put that AO setting into season III
