Well, this would be the core gimmick of an original universe, fantasy setting. Rate this ! (and, obviously, if you are a top manga artist and want to adapt this, say it, lol)

The first point is that there are, how to say, four wide «groups» with an interest in Humanity.
The first two groups are classical in appaearance. They are Succubi and Seraphi. The original point being that both group have a somewhat off-hand approach concerning Humans. Neither of them is much for interferring directly with Human affairs, short for very personnal business. With the names, you can guess that Succubi and Seraphi are somewhat at odds. The issue is, however, that Succubi have some peculiar traits for such a group....

The same thing can’t be said for the two others groups, Nephili and Nihili, who are deeply at odds, and knee-deep in Human affairs. Especially Nephili, as the name indicate. It’s important to note that neither Nihili or Nephili are atual «superior» being.

The struggle behind Nephili and Nihili is very intense. The core point of this struggle is an legend about a sort of perpetual battle. “Angels” and “Fallen Ones”. More precisely, the Angels seek champions, Defenders to fight the Ennemy, the Fallen Ones. The risk are great, but so are the rewards....Fallen Ones and Angels are in “pairs”, five of them. To defeat an Fallen One, the Defender must use two blades against her. In fact, he must retrieve one blade to actually use it against her...and give the second to the girl (kinda innefficient way, hey ) to make things fair. If the Defender survive, the Angel will give him her blessings: he will wield great power over the mortal world.....

This is nothing more than an clever, very clever trap. The so called “Fallen Ones” are not beings supposed to destroy the world. They are scapegoats, girls chosen for being killed. Often, they serve a sort of purpose: the ones that are chosen for such things are ones that could cause threat, one way or the other, for Nihili. As the Angels themselves, they are not the servants of Nihili, they are Nihili themselves. The Defenders are far from saving their world: they are the tools of it’s destruction. They are lured in for many things: promise of raw power, of glory, of domination over the mortal world...The blades themselves are just a cover-up: by the action he commit to obtain them, the Defender corrupt himself....Once he his unleashed on the world, he will cause, one way or the other, tremendous destruction....

Now, the Angel/Fallen Ones designation. In Muria, a nation that is much closer than Nephili than many others, the whole concept is known in a very differeny way. Muria is theorically defended by five “Angels”. As Muria is a nation at odds with others, it’s thought than those Angels are in fac the Fallen Ones. It’s shows in the way Muria designate their «protectors» and the way they are known in the rest of the world. While the Murianese name is very positive, the other name is somewhat hostile....

It’s important to nate that Murianese don’t actually think that they are magical beings. For the Murianese, they are mere concepts, showing their theory of politics...

(The core of the universe is centered around the five current, and very unfortunate, “Fallen Ones”. The issue being that the name they got IS more or less connected with them...Those girls have personalities, background, that will be the object of the next posts)
