Though it doesn't make much sense to tell Harutora at that point, since he hadn't figured out that much yet, but I think she was partly talking to herself too, and simply wanting to tell Harutora they were even (despite the latter not knowing what she was talking about).

Ah, it does make sense she was probably talking about her secret in relation to Harutora not saying anything about Touji. And I agree likely more to herself than him since he won't understand her comment till much later.
I must say though, her Hokuto-side really came out during this scene, it's no wonder Harutora had been reminded a bit of it in her. EDIT: Dat mischievous smirk though. Last edited by Iron Maw; 2014-01-02 at 03:09. |

Indeed
Though I'm happy we'll be able to see the LN adapted up to volume 9, I'm sad that the pacing has to be rushed so much that good moments like that one have to be skipped. It's even more of an issue, because this story clearly is character driven and all the character interaction is meaningful. So, cutting out scenes and interaction clearly limits the experience for us anime watchers. And that's why I'm really glad there is someone translating the LN right now, since that way we get to experience the real thing.

I know well how things turn out in end too, but the "journey" is still important as they say. Like I said though, the adaptation isn't horrible or anything (in fact it's quite good overall). It just could have better then it is if had more episodes or smarter rearrangement so that we wouldn't getting as much cut due to pacing. Ep 13-14 could still turn out to be a decent representation of Vol 6 if it's executed well enough. So I still have some optimism.

I think we're all willing to make-do with this extremely rushed pacing just to see the events of volume 9.
However, it stands for a fact that a lot is being left out, and as I said before, this story clearly is very, VERY character driven. So, skipped scenes means skipped interaction, and interaction in a story that is heavily driven by its characters tends to be really meaningful. Therefore, anime-only fans are missing out on a lot. I haven't read the LNs, other than what has been translated, but even with just that plus the manga (scanlations and raws), I can tell the anime really is skipping a lot - sure, it is necessary, but plenty of things are still being left out. So, this is one of those anime adaptations in which you really need to check out the source material, if you really want the whole thing instead of an abridged story.

Well, whether you still decide to continue with the manga from there or not I just want to say thanks for helping viscans by picking it up despite your busy schedule (on top of all your other projects no less). I've really enjoyed your translations so far.
