Aniplex involvement...

Hmm, I'm predicting some sort of anime now.

Would be funny if this gets transferred over to A-1 Pictures too since P.A Works doesn't exactly have the greatest track record when it comes to disc profits. Then again wasn't the original Angel Beats like their most successful title ever by an exponential margin thanks to the Key brand? Again I just remember being utterly flummoxed by the plotline and not being particularly entranced by the parts I could make heads or tails of that did feel like bits and pieces and ideas from some larger project.

If I remember it right. The reason it turn like that is because the episode is cut down in size. Its not meant to be 1 cour anime to begin with.

And I can remember who to blame anymore for it being 1 cour.

Huh. My first reaction was that this would be an announcement in regards to the long in development VN, coupled with a track record of countdowns being pretty anti-climactic, but if Aniplex is involved...

This might be an anime meant to promote the upcoming Visual Novel and Aniplex is cashing in on that, though what it could be about is anyones guess at this point. Maybe an adaption of the prequel material? Or a full-on remake, maybe 2-cour, that brings in some of the additional elements from the VN into the anime as well as featuring more character routes animated? As someone who really enjoyed the original anime, I'd gladly watch either though the latter scenario would definitely have me more excited .

Are we certain the Aniplex announcement is connected to Angel Beats, or could it be a separate project they're revealing at the same time?

I'm not sure, actually. Remember when they had the voice actors of Toaru Majutsu no Index over at the Kazuma Kamachi 10th Anniversary Event? They revealed the anime adaptation of another of Kamachi's works instead of Index Season III.

Yeah, this was what I was actually going to say as well. They've been careful to say that the event on the 22nd is going to talk about both Angel Beats! and the new Aniplex x Key project. But they haven't said yet whether it's actually related to Angel Beats or not. It's connected because it's the same companies producing and the same lead writer... but at this point they've been cagey about it.

(Technically I guess they also haven't said that it'd be an anime, but with Aniplex involved, we can basically assume that's the case.)

I'm actually going to edit the thread title just to be a bit more vague about it, since we don't quite know yet what it'll be. It may very well end up being an Angel Beats sequel or spin-off, but at this point we don't know.

A new Aniplex x Key project probably suggests an adaptation of an existing Key work if it's not going to be Angel Beats or Kud Wafter.

Which, quite probably, it's going to be either Rewrite or Planetarian.

And I hope to god this is Planetarian.

Does the silhouette of the "The New Project" girl look like she's from Rewrite or Planetarian to you?

Planetarium adaptation would be awesome. It's the only Key based work I actually like from start to finish (I played the VN a long time ago) that is void of the bullshit school antics that VNs often fall into.

I'm quite sad that it doesn't look as if we're going to see Kud Wafter, actually. It's my favorite of all the LitBus spare parts, and the discs for both LB and Refrain certainly sold well enough.

And even with all that hype nobody jumped on the possibility of anime instead we were hopeful until the very end.

Or it could be an anime original written by Maeda or another regular at Key. You know, kinda like Angel Beats.

It's obviously going to be Tomoyo After, and they'll get PA Works to do all the sex scenes.

Oh wait, that's not even funny as a joke.

Glad I'm not the only one who would move heave and earth for as Planetarian adaptation.

I did actually enjoy Angel Beats is spite of a lot of issues so I'll keep an eye out on this one. But it seems there's very little to go on at the moment to make an impression other than the obvious waifu marketing promotional picture.

Is there any more information than just this?
