So this anime is Attack on Titans meets Mortal Engines meets Arte, all right I guess and then its add a virtual reality at the end. It looks great but it hasn't sold me yet.

Oh dear lord this is actually decent. Hallelujah current season actually has something potentially worthwhile.
I just hope this doesn't drop to much in quality after the first episode and they find some way to tie the story together and finish it off.

So Deca-Dence suck kaiju blood then use it as energy source for it's rocket punch to kill said that very same kaiju. That's one of hell cool concept (not to mention it work on lesser scale as well). I can dig that

For me its more DitF meets Mortal Engines. Not the best comparison for some, but I found it more fitting than AoT for some reason.

That was really good. Tons of mystery, an interesting setting, a likable protagonist, and really cool action. It's not really a high bar to clear right now but this is definitely the most promising anime of the season that isn't a sequel. And it's anime original to boot!

I see I wasn't the only one who noticed the obvious similarities between Natsume's boss and Leo. Same design, same voice, and same mentor role; it's downright uncanny that this comes right after Arte. My headcanon is that Leo got isekai'd into this anime

That was a promising start. There is not much competition, but if this series doesn't go downhill then it might just be the best nonsequel anime of the season.

Also, I see I'm not the only one that started having Arte flashbacks upon seeing Natsume's boss.

Overall thoughts for Deca-dence Ep1:
It has a good start, though it is quite a bit generic, from the cliche dad who dies to the lead MC who wants to make a difference and stop the war only to be told she can't because she's too weak, etc. We have the grizzled vet who seems to have given up on his dreams because of "life" and whatever, and we have our post-apocalyptic setting where humanity has been pushed to the brink because of mutant monsters or whatever. Nothing we haven't seen before.

The idea that there are only two classes you can be in, either worker or soldier is not new either, but it's not seen as often in this type, so that's fair. However, then the series decides to dig deep into its mecha roots (even though honestly it hasn't shown a trace of that until now) and do a whole transformation sequence complete with Jpop song, to get a rocket boost punch to the raging kaiju. (Sure got SSSS Gridman in here super quick ) and then the end gives up...walking talking video game emojis ?! Who are some secret society of some kind???

I'm honestly not sure WHAT that was. It feels like it's not even the same anime as the rest of the show.

Altogether it was okay, the animation was nice, the story so far is pretty cliche as far as things go, but there might be hints of more? So, I'll keep watching for now.

I hope it turns out more Chrome Shelled Regios rather than Mortal Engines.

Not bad, not bad. Decent episode. As a longtime mecha-fans, however, this episode doesn't blow me away in any way, shape or form. But nice visuals is nice.

I agree with those who said that the premise is an obvious amalgamation of other more wellknown works like Mortal Engines & Attack on Titans. In fact, this also kinda reminds me of the first episode of Darlings in the Franxx (for better or worse) when it comes to the mood of the world. Here's hoping this show will be a lot better than Franxx which was so derivative of Gurren Lagann & Eva.

Decent premiere but nothing particularly hooked me. It was mostly very "by the books" storytelling done competently: nothing particularly offensive but nothing particularly exciting either. Natsume is okay, her chemistry with her boss was okay (and yeah, it also reminded me a lot of Arte and Leo), the setting and world building is okay (difficult not to see the similarities to Attack on Titan). The only thing I think it did exceptionally well on was the animation.

But then there's that ending scene which I have no idea what to make of. So is this gonna be a Qualidea Code deal where all the characters are brainwashed into one big illusion? Are they all robots and just don't know? There was that weird moment where Natsume's boss has a secret job finding "bugs" in people. And it would certainly explain a potentially massive hint hiding in plain sight: Natsume's advanced prosthetic arm. Would be a rather bizarre twist, but that ending scene was bizarre enough in its own right. At the very least, some sort of government conspiracy is par for course in this kind of setting.

i thought the Deca-Dence could transform into a giant humanoid robot like the SDF Macross but instead we have just a huge fist with rocket punch action.

Maybe it's just because I'm currently rewatching Little Witch Academia, but Natsume reminds me of Akko.

Definitely gave me some mixed vibes based on previous animes I've watched. Last Exile for the female protagonist, Attach on Titan for the airbourne attacks on monsters, and a mix of Gundam and Cowboy Bebop for the colonies in space (enclosed city) and enclosed spaceship vibe even though it's not a spaceship. It's even like that Hollywood movie about giant mechanical cities that eat one another and become bigger in size.

Seemed like a good start. I guess the boss isn't that clear cut of a person.

Everyone's making simile's to other popular anime, but for me, it gives me a strange Last Exile meets Kabaneri of the Iron Fortressvibe.

I mean, using moving city/fortress to battle is pretty much Mortal Engine's thing and an army slaying big monsters with flying strapped-on equipment is so AoT that it hurts, and both take place in post-apocalyptic worlds too. It doesn't help that Kabaneri itself is "AoT on a train".

The reason so many shows are being mentioned is because this one is so derivative. It's a generic amalgam of shows which were themselves pretty generic, which effectively makes it generic squared. Which is disappointing for a Tachikawa series.

The only thing that gives me hope is that weird final scene - maybe all this uber-predictability is a feint, at least in part. But it's nothing more than a faint hope at this point.
