To me, it's an healthy sign of independence that the new SC isn't going to take questionable orders from the Palace (despite that most of the justices are Aquino appointees); this, I think, is what "checks and balances" are all about in what should be good governance.

Copyright Scofflaws Beware: ISPs to Begin Monitoring Illicit File Sharing:
"The nation’s major internet service providers by year’s end will institute a so- called six-strikes plan, the “Copyright Alert System” initiative backed by the Obama administration and pushed by Hollywood and the major record labels to disrupt and possibly terminate internet access for online copyright scofflaws. The plan, now four years in the making, includes participation by AT&T, Cablevision Systems, Comcast, Time Warner Cable and Verizon. After four offenses, the historic plan calls for these residential internet providers to initiate so-called “mitigation measures” (.pdf) that might include reducing internet speeds and redirecting a subscriber’s service to an “educational” landing page about infringement." Look for these plans to be challenged in the courts as soon as they screw it up. The IP-doesn't-equal-perp is already in jurisprudence, monitoring every single protocol for every instance of every misnamed file .... yeah, sure. Not happening. They're basically just going to watch torrents with torrent IP harvesters and send out C&Ds as strike counters. And it'll be mostly US imaginary properties - choose better stuff to watch? And it isn't every ISP, so if you're using one of the above named nimrods and have a choice, consider moving to that other choice. If you don't have a choice, write your congressmen and ask why you don't have a choice. Final note: they've been saying "any minute now" on this New Internet Regime for several years now. As you might expect from technical illiterates who want something technical - its a lot harder than it sounds.

Depending on which provider it is, you could probably just call them and tell them to screw off and they have no proof etc., and they'd remove your strike. If they don't, then you threaten to go elsewhere. Most would rather just remove the strike. |
