Spoiler for Summary(Source:ANN):

This is not a yaoi series, but rather a story of a man confronting his own prejudices regarding homosexuality. This series goes in depth with the issue of homophobia in japan.

Sounds interesting. Reminds me of Koi Kaze that took the incest theme seriously, not for fanservice or half-ass portrayals.

Would like to say more but the mosque is calling. Gotta go.

"Otōto no otto" 「弟の夫」 is a recently completed slice of life manga series about a daughter raising her father. Kana raises her dad Yaichi with the assistance of her uncle Mike. The large, muscular gay man in front of whom she takes centre stage in front of her home on the cover. Mike becomes her mental bodyguard in this subdued action drama. There is no way around the big hairy gay man who has come into her home to stay. Mike is not in the closet and has no intention to get in the closet - except to put on clothes after a nice long shower. Nicely drawn by a man who has seen muscular men take showers and enjoyed the sight.

This is a manga created for people who don't mind homosexuals as long as they can pretend gay men don't exist. A story for people who recommend manga and anime because there are "other elements" in the story besides the homosexual relationship of the main characters. People who don't mind "that" as long as they can read around the protagonists' love life, to get to the parts they can enjoy. There is no way around Ryōji's husband, Mike Flanagan, in this story. He has entered their home and is an undeniable presence. It is a great story. If you temporarily forget Mike is gay, he'll remind you. You may want to "overlook" that part of his character but he won't let you. One of the funny elements in this comedy.

This short and to the point series was no doubt in no small part created for people who don't like homosexuals but the author was no doubt aware that "Those who should read it, won't." Many of "their" daughters will read his story. Teenage girls who'll notice that girl on the cover. The girl who looks like them. Young girls who'll wonder what her relationship is with those two men. Those little girls will thereby bring gay men into the homes of their own parents. Daughters who will become like Kana and raise a few parents of their own. There may be quite a few dads who enjoy watching those shower scenes and buy this book - for their sons and daughters.

Previously released in French translation as: Le mari de mon frère by Delacourt under its Akata imprint.

Basically this is an artistic manga that deals with a serious issue in a real and human way, and not a work for fangirls to masturbate? This is interesting.

Tagame tells this story with humour and also with proper reverence for the loss of the man with whom Mike had expected to spend the rest of his life. That Mike is in mourning as well as on a journey celebrating the life of his deceased husband is never far from the surface. The mangaka sensitively portrays the realities of growing up gay in Japan and shows what it means to be in a same sex relationships when confronted with family members’ reactions. Mike's brother-in-law, Yaichi, the titular brother, is outwardly polite, inwardly repulsed by Mike’s appearance. That’s where the story begins - with his conflicting initial reaction and the resulting inner monologues. As social interactions unfold we spend a lot of time in the head of the Japanese brother-in-law. Throughout the series Tagame sustains a lot of the initial subtlety when the scope broadens to beyond immediate family.

Looks like the second of the two part English translation has been scheduled for release on September 18, 2018. Which one of the illustrations to use for this volume has apparently not yet been revealed.

A key visual for the upcoming three part live action adaptation in Japanese was recently released. Images and links in a post in the Live action announcements Thread.

Gengoroh Tagame Launches Bokura no Shikisai Manga on March 24

Given the quality, importance and the resulting well deserved success of My Brother's Husband, his newly announced series will need its own AnimeSuki thread too, but in the more recent ANN article it also says:
Quote:
The April issue [of Futabasha's Monthly Action] also a published a special chapter for Tagame's My Brother’s Husband (Otōto no Otto) manga on Saturday. The chapter commemorates the upcoming live-action mini-series adaptation, and it takes place after the manga's ending.
Therefore, in the meantime, posted in here ... something to look forward to.

Quote:
The magazine describes the manga [Bokura no Shikisai]:
"I love men. There's nothing strange about that, or it shouldn't be..." Running away from a "normal everyday," the place he arrives at is... a beachside café where Art x Youth can be painted.

Comic Natalie posted a brief write up with the image and sample pages too.

NHK has also recently updated their website for the mini series and now hosts a preview video on the site. Broadcast to begin on March 4, 2018.

All in Japanese.

A brief message in English with an illustration marking the occasion was posted on Facebook Gengoroh Tagame - as Erica Friedman pointed out on Okazu.
