Golden Time [Light Novel]

Golden Time is a light novel series by author Takemiya Yuyuko and illustrator Komatsu Eeji. This series currently has 3 volumes released so far being published by dengeki bunko.

Synopsis:
Quote:
Tada Banri, a newly admitted student at a private law school in Tokyo, found himself completely lost after the opening ceremony, trying to find his way to the freshman orientation. Just then, he ran into another lost freshman from the same school, Yanagisawa Mitsuo, and they hit it off at once. As they were hurrying to their intended goal, with hardly any time to spare, there appeared in front of them a beautiful girl holding a bouquet of roses. The girl whacked Mitsuo across the face with the bouquet and handed the flowers over to him. "Congratulations, Freshman!", was all she said, and then she left. The stylish, well dressed, perfect woman that had swung at Mitsuo was his childhood friend, Kaga Kouko. As children she had promised to marry him one day, fulfilling her dreams. In order to escape from her, Mitsuo had gone out secretly and taken the entrance exam for this well known private college, but now there she was in the freshman orientation hall. She had taken the law school entrance exam too, and had caught up to him there.
The novel is actually being translated at a good pace on Baka Tsuki:

For those who don't know Yuyuko-sensei is the author of Toradora! light novel series, so I'm surprised nobody talks about this series.

Who is the male lead here? Is there eventually a love triangle between Banri, Mitsuo, and Kouko?

The male lead is Banri. Or rather, the story is told as if it were being narrated by "Banri's Ghost", who is the carrier of all of Banri's memories from high school and before. He follows the living Banri around, watching everything and occasionally making commentary on what he sees.

For the time being, Mitsuo is almost entirely on the sidelines, and the triangle, such as it is, is between Banri, Kouko (who wants Mitsuo) and Linda (who was Banri's girlfriend before he lost his memory).

A good pace? I'm only about 60% done translating the first book, and the third book is already published! I started working on the first book a few weeks after it was published (early October 2010), and the rate things are going, I will be lucky to get the first book done by the end of this year (2011)...

question... directed at rpapo...
have you read all 3 of the novels?
if so... does kouko remain loyal to mitsuo?
or does she give up on him and go for banri?
if so.. im dropping it right now...

Actually, my reading is at about the same pace as my translating, so I don't really know much more than what I've posted to Baka-Tsuki at any given point in time. I have all three books, in paper form, but apart from the AfterWord from volume 3 which I just translated so as to discover whether there will be a volume 4 or not, I've not done anything past volume 1 yet. And I've got 50 pages left to go in that book.

From what others have told me, and from what I can see from peeking a little into the next two books (and there apparently will be a fourth, at least),
Spoiler for Golden Time: Who is Linda?:
I'm rooting for Linda. Kouko is 200% self-centered, and appears to care nothing about anything but herself. The story may yet redeem her, but I have seen no evidence of that so far.

can you quote me a great romance story without a love triangle melodrama? it will be just crazily uninteresting. whether it leaves one 'empty' or not depends on how the author handles things.

Wow, stumbled across this today; it's really good. The characters are really well written, and the drama's just to my liking - nothing too heavy. The two 'scary' moments in vol 1 got me a bit on the edge of my seat though....

Thanks for translating this and please keep at it

Love triangle with two girls? That's the best. I love Kouko and how she always self-destructs in front of Mitsuo The moments when she acts like a real human in front of Banri are the best.

Mitsuo's a great guy, but I'm glad he's out of it from the start (and stays out). Kouko's obsession with him was childish anyway.

I also love the way this flows, and character seem really authentic and I always like that, this is possibly my favorite Takemiya work.

rpapo has been touching up bits of volume 2 here and there from time to time. You gotta give props to his dedication and interesting, carefully following this title even before was released.

sounds like a continuation of the Baka-Test in college.

Precisely how far is the manga in raws in comparison to whats translated of the LN and how how is is whats been translated of the manga in comparison to the LN.

I've read the first chapter of manga but I have no idea whether I should just stick with with or start reading the LN.
