Anyway even if the army is corrupt, the navy is practically newly built in the past 20 or so years and that's the only force that actually matters in any forseeable conflict. If the army comes into play, things have gone way south. And while the Chinese cannot actually take Taiwan now it can still do well enough to secure its own waters. BTW, underestimating a nuclear power and taking steps to incite conflict with it out of a sense of superiority is a needlessly dangerous game that benefits nobody. Also it's 2022......China isn't hot shit but it's not crappy either. Russia's failings in the Ukraine stem primarily from political issues rather than military (having no clear strategy, stupidly waging a war on the assumption the opposition will not resist, giving commanders absolutely no time to prepare, as well as the larger political failing of playing right into NATO's hands by invading the Ukraine....for what, just build up your nuclear capability and MAD will ensure your security for you) Ironically, Taiwan is a self solving issue. There's no way it will ever be de-facto independent from the mainland given the amount of socio-economic links between the two polities and the populace actually like the current status quo. Just don't antagonize them and Taiwan will remain part of Greater China. Hell, when the CCP's time has passed and whatever new government is in place in mainland China, Taiwan will most likely still remain intertwined with it to a greater extent than with anywhere else.

So is everyone else in Asia....thankfully. That's not actually a bad thing.
Against the US, China will be defending its own backyard waters. That's easier than attacking into blue water. Now they're still unlikely to be able to take Taiwan but America won't have a field day either As for the army, at the very least it's reforms addressed much of the issues Russia faces https://www.reddit.com/r/WarCollege/...cusing_on_the/ Quote:

Anyway the context is also different. With Ukraine, the issue is physical security but Taiwan is primarily about splitting Greater China (that's why KMT claiming the mainland is acceptable, as is de facto independence under the "ROC" title, ie the "True" China but splitting off is not). The former means room for negotiation is far more narrow. Ever since the Third Taiwan Crisis, PRC leaders have in general tended to kick the can down the road until peaceful reunification happens. The real question is if someone on either side will try to provoke something in Taiwan. Otherwise the current situation is actually more or less stable with most people generally prefering the status quo.

The hottest topic of China right now is Grand Translation Movement.
https://twitter.com/tgtm_official?lang=en From what I understand from the posts, the movement is due to the Ukraine war. The ruling communist party would not call it as invasion. They even have their media suggested that U.S. is to blame for "Russian intervention" in Ukraine. Not all Chinese agree with the communist government's agenda, but their posts for supporting Ukraine are removed. Only sentiment of supporting Russia remains in the government controlled media and social media. All keywords and issues not supported by the government agenda are banned as soon as possible, and the posters living in China usually get into troubles. In short, the government is in control of public opinion. The situation somehow looks like Tanya the Evil. In the story, Tanya says she hates communists because communists oppress people in the name nationalism. Some Chinese disagree with the communist government started translate the posts to English. The communist government is not happy. They criticizes that the translation would lead to racial bias and discrimination against Chinese. The claim has partial truth. The Chinese exchange students stuck in Ukraine said the translation made Ukraine people upset. They have to pretend they are Japanese, so Ukraine locals would not beat them up. The translators argued that they merely translate the social media and media content faithfully. Last edited by scififan; 2022-04-03 at 18:10. |

The Chinese Had One Note on Spider-Man
Sony Pictures drew the line at editing out the Statue of Liberty (yes, really), as Hollywood studios reconsider acquiescing to Chinese censorship of American movies. https://puck.news/the-chinese-had-on...on-spider-man/ The CCP is getting more unhinged as time goes on. |

In China, the clothes of female characters in "Kimetsu no Yaiba Yukaku Hen" have been changed from kimonos to sweaters
http://yurukuyaru.com/archives/88154632.html Seems the CCP is afraid boobies will corrupt their youth. |

There's a run on Chinese banks and it's being ignored by the world
"In recent years it has become clear the Chinese people are losing faith in their financial institutions. There’s been anger over harsh COVID lockdowns in Shanghai recently, while the collapse of China Evergrande saw rare public demonstrations as residents faced the prospect of losing their life savings used as deposits for housing."
